Why I keep the Sabbath FYI.

It would be interesting to get that chaps opinion on the world and doctrines today. I think he would be brutal and give us all a hiding

God kept the Sabbath when He created the world. He instructed us to keep the Sabbath. He never mentioned the angels. Jesus said that the Sabbath was created for man, so I don't think the angels will keep the Sabbath because there is no salvation for them. If they sin they are fallen angels.

God did not 'observe the Sabbath'. There was no Sabbath until Exodus 16 and it is clear there that it was not widely observed. You just read into Scripture what you want.

God ceased work on the seventh day because His work was finished. He did not 'rest'. He declared it a celebration day as signifying that creation was complete. There was no thought of anyone observing it.

The observance of the Sabbath was part of His covenant with Israel. It was to remind them that He is the Creator. Its secondary role was to ensure that even the meanest slave had a day of rest. It was nowhere enjoined on others. Our eyes are fixed on Him as the Saviour and Redeemer. Therefore we worship on resurrection day rejoicing in the rest that He has given us. That was what the Sabbath was looking forward too.

With luck our memories will be swept clean and it will just seem like a nightmare that we woke up from.

Lol, you'll be wanting to know you don't have to keep the Sabbath. Who will you debate it with then?

A primitive root; to repose, that is, desist from exertion; used in many implied relations (causatively, figuratively or specifically): - (cause to, let, make to) cease, celebrate, cause (make) to fail, keep (sabbath), suffer to be lacking, leave, put away (down), (make to) rest, rid, still, take away.

If that is true, it would seem obvious to me which group of people are most aware of Gods laws, and make the least we xcuse for breaking them. They refuse to kid themselves they keep the law, and don't stress others must attain to what in honesty they know they do not attain to themselves

It would be interesting to see which Bible you are reading because in my Bible there are many texts that it is God stressing that we obey Him.... I'll list one for you.

If I'm not mistaken, the Hebrew word implies "ceased". In other words, he ceased creating. I doubt that God has taken a day off lol. Otherwise our prayers wouldn't be answered on Sabbath...John 5:17 says that the Father and Christ are continually working. Colossians 1:17 says Christ holds everything together.

Somehow I get the impression that some Sabbathkeepers believe that the Ten Commandments are essential to God's eternal character, INCLUDING the Sabbath. The logical issue with that is God is the creator and existed prior to creation. To claim that he is bound by the Sabbath is incoherent.

God also doesn't have sex organs to practice adultery and owns everything so why would he need to steal?

Some Sabbathkeepers have a very anthropomorphic view of God.

Again, believers are to keep all commandments that apply to THEM, not the ancient nation of Israel. Christians are not parties to the Old Covenant.

I agree with this. As I noted, saying God keeps the Sabbath is incoherent. I suppose some Sabbathkeepers think he observed the Sabbath before there was a creation, and the earth and sun was created.

In forty years of going to church I have never met any Christian who has even tried to keep every literal command of Christ, but I have met many who quote John 14:15

The born again Christian wants to obey God in their heart, but the honest ones admit they do not perfectly obey

BTW
Many look to the literal letter of commandments, rather than take Paul's advice

Carry each others burdens and so fulfil the law of Christ Gal6:2

If you think you can keep Gods Law you are deluded and trapped in a works based disobedience.

The difference between the OT and the NT is that God Keeps Us now because we (the Jews/all of humanity) couldn't keep the original contract.

The reason why we can't keep the original contract is because it is a spiritual law but we mistake it as a carnal one. Because we are carnal... that's what we understand.

The Law is on our heart. The first commandment is translated into our heart as Love. Given to us by God when we realize it was Him who first loved us.

The 4th commandment also translates spiritually. It is on our hearts. We understand, with Christ, that we don't keep the law and thus are not blessed by our work at it. We are blessed by Christ and Christ Alone. We rest in His Completed Work of Salvation for our lives.

Ephesians 2:8-9
[SUP]8 [/SUP]For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
[SUP]9 [/SUP]Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Do you understand what this really means? Your work at the law is not required. Even if you could do it. Deep down you know you can't. We all know it. That's what makes what the Lord Jesus Christ did/does for us so awesome.
 
You are using Old Testament scriptures. God says if you follow a law you must follow all of it. If you want to follow the old law, you need to find a 2,000 year old high priest to sacrifice for your sins on your behalf, and that is just one of a mountain of laws under the old covenant. And if so, you can not be under Christ (the new covenant) because according to Roman 7:1-4, that would be committing spiritual adultery.

You assume that because we preach the law that we try to keep it. People who try fail, we have the Jewish example to show that is true.

Its not about trying its about acknowledging the standard, acknowledging we can't get there and acknowledging Gods Grace can get us there.

People who talk about how they fall short are focused on the letter and their falling short is proof of that fact. They fall short because they are still walking in the flesh. Once one walks in the spirit they are freed from the flesh. This is done by faith in the promises found in Jesus. Falling short shows that it is you, when one overcomes temptation and sin they shew fourth the righteousness of Jesus in them. They are living lights of the power of God wrought in Humanity.

Obedience was and is not about what humans can or should do, It has always been about trusting God. Those who do so will attain.

The standard the law sets is perfection. Do you believe you have reached that standard?

No one with the law on their heart and mind could possibly believe that.

It comes across as
Look at me, I am at the perfect standard. You need to get to where I am at.

That would be of the flesh, and the flesh wont lead into truth

What a perverse doctrine of bondage you believe! Following the law in order to acknowledge that you can't keep it. Bound to the law to be reminded continually of the body of death. That's simply proof of your unbelief that GOD has slain the body of sin and freed you to walk (live) in the righteousness of his spirit. And you call that faith!

Perverting the word of God is looking for excuses not doing what God tells us to do.
