Besides, terrorists are suicidal, they are not afraid to die; probably they can't wait for it in order to receive their 17 (or is it 70?), virgins in "heaven".. So...the best solution I see (so far) is to increase security in your country. To be more careful who you let inside your country and to put more police on the streets.
A few observations. If a war cannot stop all terrorism, but can contain it to a small region, you can make a strong case to go to war. How can one possibly prove what the result would have been if the U.S. and it's coalition forces had not gone to war after 9/11? Maybe we reduced enemy forces and capabilities to the extent they were unable to carry out dozens of missions they were planning against Americas. In WWII, allied forces killed a lot of Germans and a lot of Japanese, yet they kept fighting and replacing the dead soldiers. But we kept killing them and destroying their ability to resupply troops, until attrition and lack of fuel and aircraft and room to retreat, forced them to surrender.
A lot of Japanese soldiers were also suicidal. They took out a lot of our men. But we kept fighting and killing the enemy. Going from island to island, losing a lot of good men along the way. The total body count from WWII was in excess of 54,000,000.
Do you know how many U.S. casualties there were when George Bush Sr. sent U.S. troops to fight Iraq? The total was less than the number of troops ordinarily killed while in training exercises during the same period of time. Was it even 200 total?
How many Americans have been killed fighting terrorism? How many American lives have been saved as a result? We have been at war for over twelve years. The U.S. has lost what, 500 soldiers per year, approximately. The Vietnam War resulted in 50,000 U.S. casualties and 500,000 North Vietnamese casualties. That war lasted less time than the current war on terror.
Yes, we should prepare for suicide bombings in the U.S. They will begin by walking into crowded public places and firing automatic weapons into innocent people. They will attack crowded buses, theaters, restaurants, shopping malls. We will do our best to stop them from entering the country to carry out these attacks. But unless and until they can acquire WMD's, they will not be able to kill large numbers of people and they will die during those attacks. So they will need to be replaced.
I believe it is much wiser to fight them over there than in our cities and streets. Keep killing their leaders with drones and work with allies to bomb their strongholds. There are only 30,000 members of ISIS. If we reduce that number to less than 1000, they will be much less effective.

The one and only thing I have to give credit to W is his idea that we are going to have to fight these guys, better to do it on their turf than ours.

Amen to the abandonment!! So the ones that are abandoning Islam, are they accepting Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior or are they just claiming Christianity as their new religion? Hard to comprehend just dropping a religion like that and claiming to be Christian without knowing Jesus. Praise the Lord anyway!!
.......um, there are not 5,000,000 Muslims in France. What did you do, look up, "How many Muslims in France?" and read Wikipedia? No, there are around 2.1 million people who identify themselves as Muslims. I would show you a link...but it's French and you don't know French. Sorry, I trust what the French government says over what some English related websites say.
There is a difference between being offended and disgusted. I've been disgusted throughout most of this thread and even more so when someone was talking about my husband hypothetically dying in the attacks. That is just wrong on any level of interaction and debate, and even more so when I live only 15 minutes from the attack sites. There was NO need to be hypothetical about the person I'm married to and love dearly to try to sway my opinion. It was personal attacking...and it's a very low way to go about trying to push ideas on another person.
I was just flipping thru channels on the TV and caught the tail end of a report. The jist was that these radical extremists are causing what we call moderates to re-evaluate their religion. It was telling of one woman who's son had gone radical, and thru his pressure to radicalize her, she realized that the koran did indeed espouse violence. She investigated Christianity and was drawn to the peace preached by Jesus. I didn't hear how big this movement is, or whether most of them are accepting Christ or just claiming the title. Wish I had seen more.
Grow up. My wife and I live in a challenging neighborhood. A shootout a few weeks ago between two drug dealers left one of them dead and the other wounded. That was seven blocks from our home. We hear gunfire much too often. The two American Islamic Extremists who drove to Texas to shoot people and were themselves gunned down by law enforcement, lived one mile from us. We carry pepper spray and a stun gun just to walk our dogs. A quarter mile away, where we ride our bikes, a woman riding her bike was murdered and her head was cut off.
Because of the dangers around us, my wife and I have discussed hypothetical situations of all kinds, in hope of surviving an attack, a robbery, a home invasion. And yes, we even discuss one of us being killed. We are saving up to move to a safer neighborhood, but until then, we have purchased life insurance and installed security cameras, warning signs, an alarm system, and additional home defense that includes firearms.
My point is you and your husband really should be discussing hypothetical situations where your lives are threatened, or even a situation where one of you is seriously injured or killed. You need to have a plan. For instance, you told us you walked into a busy public place in the days following the attack in Paris, without thinking there could be a follow up attack in such a place. Someone set off fireworks and people scattered. What if it had been someone with a gun? What was your plan? Don't tell me that if you quit going to theaters or concerts or soccer games, the terrorists win. If you live in a hot zone, you better change the way you think and act. You are young and you should strongly consider getting out of Paris. It may not be worth the risk.
I use to wonder about the people who worked in the World Trade Centers. After the first attempt to destroy one of the towers, most people continued working there. If my wife had a job there, we would have looked for a new job elsewhere. Even today, I think living in Manhattan or Washington DC is too risky. Those cities are major targets. They will be struck again.
Stop and meditate of the idea of how crushed your husband would be if you were harmed or killed. It would devastate him. If I failed to move us out of this dangerous neighborhood in time and my wife was hurt or killed, how could I ever forgive myself? These are not disgusting things to think about or talk about. The person who suggested it to you was trying to help you see how devastated your life would be if your husband was taken from you. People who suffer that kind of loss often do not fully recover. You thought that because many here strongly disagree with your opinions, mean that they want to cause you pain. They don't want to cause you pain. We just hear you talking about how close you are to this violence and can't understand why you and your husband don't take action to get a safe distance from it. I'm sure your families have told you the same thing. Be safe.

Yeah, I grew up in a crappy neighborhood too were there were gunshots every week and people were murdered countless times. Blah blah blah...your comment about my husband hypothetically dying was wrong. How my husband and I plan and discuss things is between him and I...not you, him, and I. No amount of planning can ready anyone for unexpected death...nothing. There is no need to discuss what non of us have control over in the first place.

I was watching a news program yesterday,I dont recall which one. They were showing how police are in training in case of a terror attack. As they discussed the training they were saying that this is totally different than what police are use to. It use to be when there was a shooter the cops would wait before going in to a hostage situation. They said they have had to change that because these terrorists dont want anything,just to murder as many people as possible. They said most of the murders happen within 6 minutes,before the cops can even reach the place. So what does that tell you?! Their only intent is murder of as many people as possible.In France the police waited 30 mins. before going in to the theater and over one hundred lost their lives.People better wake up. We do not know and cannot know who is coming in to the country if we allow refugees in. It only took 11 people to mastermind 9/11. Just a reminder.
