The very first church that my wife and I attended together after becoming believers was a Baptist church that seemed really nice at first, but after only attending there for 6 months, I turned to my wife during one of the services and said, "saved or not saved, people are still people!"
 
i've been at my home church since i was 6. sure, the congregation has had plenty of problems, but we keep our eyes on Jesus :)

Why did you once deem it nice at first? Did it become not so nice? Why? Just trying to understand.
 
I know I have mentioned in other posts that I was actually taken outside and verbally assaulted by one of the elders and began telling me that I should not honor my dad because he hadn't attended church for a couple months because his job required him to work on Sundays, plus he was taking care of my Grandparents by helping with keeping their grass mowed and other things. To me I am required to honor my parents for my entire life and by him telling me that I shouldn't goes against the bible.

I agree!
We honor our parents because they are our parents and not because they do every single thing right. Which btw; going to church no more makes me a christian than me standing in the garage and saying I am a car:)

I would love attending church again, but it needs to be a Godly church that lives their life both at church and at home according to what the bible talks about. I feel that it is of utmost importance to be in attendance of a church body because we hold each other accountable and we get fed. Plus, I love getting loved on by each other, if you know what I mean

I reminded him that we are not supposed to pass judgement upon others and he did apologize just not a sincere one. That was actually the last Sunday I do pray for him that he will get right about this and hope it doesn't happen to someone else, if you know what I mean.
 
So.....I just did something that was huge for me and it was very emotional but I felt God was leading me to do this. I honestly don't think I have ever done anything like this and I feel at peace that I haven't felt since the early part of last December.

My wife and I left a CoC, years back, because the Elders told us to quit referring to The Holy Spirit as "He". in the class we were teaching. Sometimes Elders think they are really all that and a bag of chips.

Call me the naive one (or a sinful and willingly 'dead in ignorance' type), but last I went to church was at sixteen. This was around the prime time of questioning as to what I believed and followed and thought that the solution was to head to church after insisting myself weeks prior to it that I'd go. Attended Sunday night mass and left. It wasn't the same anymore. It used to be something that helped me to get through the week even if I didn't know everything about it. The people who attended weren't so bothersome, but there wasn't a connection either.

In a way, I'm glad I was raised in the Catholic church I went to for religion classes and whatnot. It wasn't the best and there were definitely flaws now looking back. But with the way many shun you just because you don't do something they say is what drives one out so quickly. I remember a nun told us that if we didn't attend to every Sunday mass, we would be questioned and ultimately sent to hell. -shrugs-

I've looked into other sections somewhat. Some seem a bit crazier than others, but I'll admit that I'm probably going by stereotype more than anything else.

Well at first, everyone was very welcoming and were happy to hear that we were new Christians, but as time went on, we started noticing how the people there were somewhat legalistic about certain things and can act very self righteous. Men must wear suits and women must wear long dresses to the ankles. If you did not, then you were treated differently. They had a private Christian school there and the rules were that women who came to pick up their children at school were not allowed to enter into the school unless they were wearing a long dress. They made the children (including high school students) sign an agreement that they will never go to the movies. If they are caught coming out of a movie theater, they can be expelled. We attended a Wednesday night Bible study and certain people there were rude to us because our son did not attend the private school there and they kept asking why he didn't. A member of the church there brought a friend to visit one Sunday morning and they were both standing outside (his friend was smoking a cigarette) and as the Pastor walked by them, the member called out to the Pastor (he wanted to introduce his friend) but the Pastor ignored him and kept walking. Later on, the Pastor admitted to the member that he ignored him because his friend was smoking a cigarette. The Pastor had a secretary who's husband insisted on divorcing her but she did not want a divorce and did everything she could to keep the marriage together, but when it was all said and done, her husband divorced her. Then the Pastor fired her because he did not want a "divorcee" working for him. There is more, but I think you get the point.
