So I'd go there, show them the bill, and say I'd like to pay this off over time and start by handing them a five dollar bill? (This wouldn't be a problem if I didn't have to pay 2500 dollars first.)

the hospitals i've dealt with and worked for are usually so happy just to be paid, so...yeah!
you might explain the school debt and tell then once that's paid you'll give them more.
quick story: two of my cousins had appendectomies three months apart at the same hospital.
one had insurance; the other didn't.
my cousin with insurance's bill was literally one tenth what her sister was charged!
(because insurance companies have set fee agreements with them)
so my cousin w/o insurance told the folks in billing she'd pay what her sister did, and though they wouldn't accept that, they did cut her bill by 50%.
what a racket.

So, I am about to have a conversation with my mom over the phone... she texts me and tells me she knows why me and my brother "hate her"... I tell her to please explain what she is talking about cause I have Moved FORWARD from that step.. I don't hate her, my brother might...only cause shes done just as much damage to him as she did me... but it takes him a little longer to get over things....
anyways, My mom has this habit of blaming others for HER pain. SO of course i am expecting something to come up and her be mad at us... or beg for attention... so,... be praying for me, I want her to know that I LOVE her and would like to HELP her through grieving over her lost loved ones. and be God's shining light in her life... I didn't just go to my uncles funeral cause i could... I went to that funeral to be with FAMILY.
