Signs you need a new laptop:
It's 5+ years old.
The cooling fan sounds like a leaf blower, blowing in the distance.
You no longer have a full functioning up arrow key.
The built-in mouse clicker sticks.
It can't handle the content you have on it.
The audio jack is completely loose and therefore if you move the wrong way, the brand new earbuds you've got plugged in won't work properly (but they work great on the tablet I have).
It just really needed to be replaced like, last year, especially since I'm going to college in the fall, but you've always been taught to use something till it can't be revived any longer.
All of those things can be fixed, but may not be worth it if this is an entry level laptop we're talking about. You can sell it online as "for parts/not working" and put what you make off of it towards something new.
