I once knew a woman who was unhappy about her marriage and with complete conviction said to me, she'd be perfectly happy with just herself, a "toy" as she put it, and never having to have sex again. Of course, she wanted to "change" her husband into the kind of man she wanted, but it was what is was.
Other people have the opposite problem, and use masturbation as a substitute, young kids going through puberty deal with a lot uncomfortableness they aren't ready for (lol). Our bodies do work in a real way.
Some people would have it justified, well, isn't it better teen boys and girls do that than have sex? Or, hey, its no big deal as long as you aren't fantasizing/visualizing/having impure thoughts to go along with it. Or even if you are, its no big deal? ITs just a fantasy, right? (The dangers of fantasies is it causes you to have unreasonable expectations on a real person).
That kind of thought process is a slippery slope. I would say this, people are going to do it, teens, adults, men, women. It's not ending anytime soon. That's just a practical reality. Ok, sin is bad.... lets stop sinning. Oh wait, a lot of sin is still going on. Yikes.
Do I think its a sin? Sure, but I'm not going to hammer someone over the head about it. Am I going to publically shame someone struggling with it? It doesn't seem like a constructive approach.
I do think the larger message about giving yourself completely over to Christ is more important and once you find yourself on a path of spiritual growth, leaving behind all kinds of sin becomes easier. God gives us the tools to repent.
