We were five kids and meal time was family time. I still remember the fights between my older brothers but if I knew then what I knew now I would have soaked in every special moment with my family.

Fridays was our "special day" and we were allowed to watch television while eating and that was such a big occasion because we would sit and watch shows like MacGyver, A-Team and all those classics as a family.

What a wonderful memory to have... :)

This is how I remember home made bread. Pot bread :)

On Sunday we went to the Greek's café and would order freshly baked milkbread. If you haven't tasted milkbread you are missing out.

I remember eating amazing amounts of food and never gaining weight. When I got married, I was 6' 2" and 145 pounds. Now it is a real struggle to keep at a decent weight for cycling (165#)
The privilege of being a teenage boy. Eat like a pig and loose it all within ten steps :)

Yea, that has always amused me. I go to Mexican restaurant and watch someone order a full Mexican dinner swimming in grease with all the trimmings with chips and salsa and then order a diet coke. That always makes me chuckle.
Reminds me of a chat quote I once read.

<[Faer|eggs]> When I worked at BK there was this woman who would regularly come to my drive-thru window and order a Whopper, an Angus Steak Burger, Double Bacon Cheeseburger value meal, large Chocolate shake, large onion rings, lots of sauce, and a DIET coke
<[Faer|eggs]> Each and every time, when I would hand her the order, she'd make a fuss "Are you sure this is DIET?"
<[Faer|eggs]> So after about a month of this I finally got fed up with the whole thing
<[Faer|eggs]> And when she came for her daily visit, and threw the daily fuss, I said:
<Tremens> (this is where faer gets fired)
<[Faer|eggs]> "No ma'am, I'm terribly sorry, we're out of DIET coke today. Instead I filled your cup with water, some bacon grease, and a bit of leftover breakfast gunk from the cinnamon rolls. I know it sounds strange now, but trust me, when you drink it, it'll taste just the same as the DIET coke does after you inhale all that fat and grease you order from me every day."
<[Faer|eggs]> So she asked if she could see my manager
<Akuma> ROFL
<[Faer|eggs]> Of course, I smiled, and walked away to get my manager
<[Faer|eggs]> Manager spoke to her a few moments, there were some harsh hand symbols, and eventually the woman drove off
<[Faer|eggs]> My manager came back to me with the most UPSET look on her face
<[Faer|eggs]> And said "That woman has been coming here for the past two years. She's been our most loyal customer at this shop, and you just drove her away forever."
<[Faer|eggs]> The next day, I got a raise.
<Tremens> haha

I make sourdough bread, which if you have never tried it, you are also missing out. I'll trade you sourdough for milkbread, loaf for loaf. :D

And no, that stuff at the store is NOT real sourdough. Even at the health food stores, they make it with packaged yeast. Real sourdough takes too long to be commercially viable.

Us kids always joked around a lot. Lots of times I'd imitate my dad's chewing or some other silly thing without him knowing ... but my brothers and sisters knew what I was doing. And they'd all be laughing hysterically while I'd keep a straight face pretending I didn't know what was so funny. My youngest brother still laughs at the time he got caught with a small bottle of whiskey by my dad. He was being grilled about how he managed to buy it underage ... and I naturally joined in the questioning. Unbeknownst to my dad, I was the culprit that bought it for him. Still remember the look in my brothers eyes at that dinner. He half wanted to rat me out (but wouldn't have)... but was too busy trying to contain his laughter. We had some fun times at our dinner table :)

I have never tried it before... but now I am hungry and yearning for freshly baked bread!

i have 3 sisters and mom worked full time, but still managed to get a hot meal on the table
every. single. night. amazing, without microwaves and processed foods.

dinner was usually lots of fun. we'd play word games and make jokes and after dinner, dad would stick his fork into serving dishes and grab another bite.
when we girls told him that was against the rules, he gave us the old, do as i say, not as i do biz.

classic dad. :)
