this is the prophecy concerning the promise....this is what Peter is talking about...
[SUP]16 [/SUP]But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
[SUP]17 [/SUP]And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

[SUP]18 [/SUP]And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

[SUP]19 [/SUP]And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
[SUP]20 [/SUP]The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:
[SUP]21 [/SUP]And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

God gives us of HIS Spirit....

1 John 4:13
Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

Acts 2:17,18 "And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:"

These miraculous abilities is the gift that would "pour out of my spirit"

1 Jn 4:13 is the Christian literally, geographically located, dwell in Christ?

You continue to ignore Jn 10:27 and Phil 1:5 both show man's faithfulness to God. God is faithful to those that remain faithful to Him and God has no obligation to remain faithful to those that become unfaithful to Him.
Ignore nothing. Neither of those verses you number say anything contrary to eternal security.

I give them eternal life.

Now what don't you understand?

The I = the Lord Jesus who is the Savior -- yes, there is such a thing as a Savior who saves with salvation. He is not a validator the works of sinful man.

Thou shalt call His name Jesus, for
He shall save His people from their sins.

The "give"?
Salvation is a free gift to all who believe.
Man cannot earn it because all of man's righteousnesses are as filthy rags.

The "eternal"?
You think it is temporary, comes & goes?

The "life"?
You don't understand that man is dead in trespasses & sins. Salvation meets the need of life from death. He gives life to the wretched sinner. Man's problem is that as a child of Adam man has no capacity to do good. The solution is new birth. Once born again man becomes a child of God. One cannot become unborn again any more than you could stop having had your physical birth.

And they shall never perish.
You don't get that? You think somehow they may perish?
O slow of heart & stubborn of mind to refuse to believe the obvious truth repeated over & over in the Word.

He who began a good work in you will complete it.
Now if you never actually trusted Christ as Savior, but persisted in trusting your works, you never had the good work begun in you.

My inheritance is incorruptible, undefiled, and guarded by the power of God.

Is it not sickening to read someone go on & on in unfaithfulness & then same person speaks of unfaithfulness.

Actually all Christians are regenerated, baptized, indwelt, and sealed the moment they believe -- distinct works of the Spirit, yet universal & instantaneous to everyone who believes in this dispensation.

You did not solve your problem only made it worse.
The only problem is your sophistry & hard-heart, refusing to believe the plain word of God. Then you make up things that I did not say. I never said that baptism was the same as indwelling. There are clearly distinct ministries of the Holy Spirit, though received at the same time. You set up a straw man & then attack it.

Yet you posted above "This is a future tense of immediate consequence.."

The consequence follows believing, only believing, which is also expressed as repent (change from non-belief to belief).

-------------

believe and confess RIm 10:9,10 are two different things
Passage does not say confess to men. When one calls on the name of the Lord in Faith, one is confessing to God in one's definition of Christ. These are not 2 different things as steps to salvation. You cannot believe in Christ without having some definition of Him in your mind.

Since over & over believe is the sole condition of salvation, nothing essential can be added to it.

Believe on the Lord Jesus and you shall be saved.
(nothing separate added). But when you believe on Jesus having Him defined as YHWH, that is an agreement with God, a confession as to Who He is.

Luke 8:11-12
Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12 And those by the way side are they that have heard; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word from their heart, that they may not believe and be saved.

John 3:14-18
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up; 15 that
whosoever believeth may in him have eternal life. 16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God sent not the Son into the world to judge the world; but that the world should be saved through him. 18 He that believeth on him is not judged: he that believeth not hath been judged already, because he hath not believed on the name of the only Son of God.

John 10:27
But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep. My Father, who hath given them unto me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.

JOHN 20:30

where does the scripture teach that???
devils believe also....
faith without works is dead..
Newb

How can you be so blind?
I haven't ever seen anyone here posting that works do not follow salvation. The order is faith, salvation, works;
Not works, salvation.

So why do you keep going on that way, as if you pretended that someone denied that truth?

scripture does not teach God gives the HS to those who only believe...
Yes it does. It does by making a categorical offer with no other condition but believe.

But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believed on him were to receive: for the Spirit was not yet given; because Jesus was not yet glorified.

45 And they of the circumcision that believed were amazed, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Spirit.

13 in whom ye also, having heard the word of the truth, the gospel of your salvation,— in whom, having also believed, ye were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,

Newb Quotes Acts & Heb.

Acts 5:32

And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
scripture does not teach God gives salvation to those who only believe

Hebrews 5:9
And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

Illogical, Newb.
Quoting verses which say nothing about whether or not
all who believe receive the Spirit,
does not prove your point. The only obedience which saves is obeying this commandment:

Believe on the Lord Jesus, and you shall be saved. When you hear that command & believe, you are obeying. But as to doing good works, good works are the fruit of the Spirit. So how are you ever going to do good works without the Spirit's help? The order is 1) Holy Spirit, 2) works; not 1) works, 2) Holy Spirit.

Inasmuch as salvation is offered over & over for no condition but believing in Christ, trusting the Savior, there can be no essential additional thing required.

Faith, salvation, works;
not works, salvation.

what Atwood is saying is that a man can be a christian and not even know it...
Remember, Thou shalt not bear false witness against they neighbor & that liars go to the Lake of Fire.

Backguote me on that or retract.

Knowing you are a Christian is not the same thing as understanding the doctrine of the Holy Spirit.

Let us not forget the topic of the thread: OSS = Once saved, you are indeed saved! Eternal Security.

Ps 34
YHWH redeems the soul of his servants;
And none of them who take refuge in him shall be condemned.

Ps 52
But as for me, I am like a green olive-tree in the house of God:
I trust in the lovingkindness of God for ever and ever.
I will give thee thanks for ever, because thou hast done it;

1 Thes 5 end:
"And the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved entire, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is He Who calls you, Who will also do it.

Digressions have come on the doctrine of the Holy Spirit, a somewhat different subject.

As to all Christians being Spirit baptized, see 1 Cor 12:13

For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of the body, being many, are one body; so also is Christ. 13 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free; and were all made to drink of one Spirit.

We celebrate the eternal security of the Christian who trusts Christ as Savior with this song:

He who began a good work in you
He who began a good work in you
Will be faithful to complete it
He'll be faithful to complete it
He who started the work
Will be faithful to complete it in you
If the struggle you're facing
Is slowly replacing
Your hope with despair
Or the process is long
And you're losing your song
In the night you can be sure
That the Lord has His hand on you
Safe and secure
He will never abandon you

You are His treasure
And He finds His pleasure in you.

Phil 1:5 "For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now; 6Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:"

God is faithful to those that are faithful to Him. Those Philippians had remained faithfully in the gospel from the first day unto now verse 5, therefore Paul was confident God would faithfully continue that good work in them, verse 6. No verse says God must remain faithful and save those that become unfaithful to Him. The Philippians faithfully remained in the gospel yet some in Galatia had not, Gal 1:6-9. You will not find where Paul said he was confident God would continue that good work in those Galatians that were removed from the gospel, but instead Paul told them "I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain" Gal 4:11 "O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth" Gal 3:11 " ye are fallen (past tense) from grace" Gal 5:4. God does not abandon the Christian, the Christian abandons God due to the Christians' unfaithfulness.

IF we root ES in God, we see that God will complete that which He has given, which is justification and glorification, Rom. 8. But because we are human we will not all progress in sanctification to the same extent, we can even falter and be less faithful or even unfaithful. We then lose salvation sanctification, we lose abundant life, we lose rewards, but we do not lose deliverance from the penalty of sin, we still have eternal life.

To Atwood- Just a few questions. In reference to John 1: 12: Is a person saved when they receive Jesus by believing in His name? How and when does that person become a child of God? Since the list of verses say nothing about love or repentance, are they essential to salvation? Can a person know God, if he does not love Him or keep His commandments? Thanks for your consideration.

Ephesians 1:3-8
[SUP]3 [/SUP] Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
[SUP]4 [/SUP] just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him. In love
[SUP]5 [/SUP] He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will,
[SUP]6 [/SUP] to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.
[SUP]7 [/SUP] In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace,
[SUP]8 [/SUP] which He lavished upon us. In all wisdom and insight

We were chosen to receive Salvation long BEFORE anything was created. We were Predestined to receive Salvation.

How can a person lose their Salvation when we were Predestined to receive Salvation and receive it by FAITH?

Too many people teach Salvation by WORKS and because they believe its by WORKS that they believe you can lose it by their sins!

It is certainly one of the ways that Satan uses to get us to focus on ourselves instead of on Jesus. He can't rob us of our salvation, so he works to rob us of the joy of our salvation.
