my apologies. i don't claim to be without sin myself. i was not looking down on you, merely pointing out that your posts indicates that you've already given yourself permission - "if a really good man came along, I don't think i'd be able to stay alone."

anyway, that's all i have to say on the matter. as someone else has already noted, it's between you and the Lord. you know what scriptures says.

It's hard to answer this because everyone dealing with same-sex attraction is in a different place with a different perspective, and no matter how you try and reach out, it will touch some and irk others. But the one thing you can do that should almost always work is just be a friend.

If you see them being ostracized, go up and welcome them.

If they want to voice their concerns, listen with an open mind.

If they are struggling, be there for them.

If they want to pursue their attraction, still love them anyway, and do not abandon them.

Homosexuality is a sin like any other. If you feed your sinful desires, they will continue to grow. I don't believe people are "hardwired" to be gay. I don't even like the term "gay". I can give in to my desires to lust after women or men or whatever other desires my flesh and Satan can conjure up, if I pursue these desires my mind will continually be seeking the next and more "exciting" activity. On top of that, everyone is looking for an identity, they are looking for a cause, a place to belong and something that makes them "special". I think it would be very difficult to change the minds of anyone who has chosen to identify themselves as "gay"

They are part of an "oppressed" community (which bonds them together strongly, gives them a purpose like they are changing the world and leading mankind into the next phase of compassion and enlightenment), they have an identity that is edgy and "cool" based on sexuality (which can be very empowering and exciting), they experience a great amount of acceptance and support by their "gay" peers, they tend to be much more promiscuous making it much easier to find "partners" and have "fun", they have committed themselves by "coming out" (enduring all the persecution from family, friends and others. When people suffer for a cause, it can really solidify their resolve). Etc...

So I think that the best way to witness to them is with understanding and love, but you also have to share with them a lot of truth and they must know what God truly says (not just about His stance on their sin but also just who He is in general and why we are here. ) They can't belong to the church ( same goes for anyone who is openly and proudly committing any habitual sin), they must be kicked out so they do not become decieved that what they are doing (being rebellious towards God) is acceptable.

Then they will live in sin and disobedience (a plaything for Satan) until either they tire of being separated from God and realize the emptiness of sin and Satan's promises and repent and seek God. Or they will die in their rebellion. Its really an act of God that will open peoples eyes and hearts, nothing we can do besides speak truth in love, take our stance with God/the Bible and pray..

I don't think we should be a part of the whole anti-gay movement. That's just a bunch of worldliness and, like all worldliness, only brings about hate and death. I dont think homosexuality should be singled out as "more evil" than any other sin. Most of the people running around yelling homosexuals are going to hell probably dont even know what it means to walk with Christ and will probably be judged more severly than the "homosexuals" on judgement day. I think we should be a part of the anti worldliness movement.

In Romans 1, if we really take this chapter seriously and believe the truth of it we will find that God gives them over to inordinate affections because that is what they want and later God gives them over to a reprobate mind. That is not a good place to be in when God gives you over to it. When it comes to that place its a whole other issue then sin because when that happens there is very little chance for God to work repentance in their life. They should fear what God could to them in giving them over to those things they have inordinate affections for. We are not here to condemn them but we are here to warn them of the condemnation which is to come. Perhaps we can save some through fear of that condemnation (Jude 22,23).

Same sex attraction is not a sin. We cannot physically or psychologically control what we find sexually attractive. Some people, unfortunately, get hard wired differently than the rest of the population. And I'm not just talking about gays here. Pedophiles, people with strong foot fetishes, diaper fetishes, and so on, all of these people are dealing with deviant attractions that they cannot control. Now let me be clear, I am talking about just the attraction at it's core. That is something that is beyond our control. What we do with that attraction is within our control. If we lust, that is a sin no matter your orientation. If we have sex outside of marriage, that is a sin no matter your orientation. So if someone who has same-sex attractions wants to have a Christian relationship with another person of the same sex (respecting each others bodies before marriage, staying true to one another and not sleeping around after marriage, and most importantly, loving each other for who they are and not for their bodies), what exactly is the sin?

Do you WANT to be attracted to whatever gender your attracted to? I don't want to be attracted to men, I would have had a wife and kids by now if I was straight 90% likely as most of the people I know do. Only God can change a leopards spots if He chooses to.
 
Also, I want to add this to my previous post.

I think the Bible makes it clear that we should not associate with those in the church who openly commit habitual sin, in this case homosexuality. 1Corinthians 5. So I don't think we should have gay friends within the church. But we certainly can befriend those outside of the church (as Jesus did) if we are mature enough in Christ to not be lead astray or partake in the sinfulness of sinner (which actually requires a tremendous amount of maturity, wisdom and love)

yes, thank you for reminding me of that passage.
i suppose in response to the op, i would now say our compassion must be preaching the law and then the gospel.
perhaps the fear of God will be the beginning of wisdom (seek Christ now while you can)

I don't believe this is true at all. Certainly we are all hardwired to sin and overcoming our flesh is only possible with Christ, its not always easy. But if you are suggesting that overcoming same sex attraction is harder than any other sin or sinful desires, I seriously have to disagree. Nobody will overcome anything unless they truly want to and seek Gods answers in The Bible and rely on the power of the Holy Spirit

I'm sorry but I don't buy any of this. People simply like the oxytocin rush they get from A to Z activity. We train ourselves to get addicted to whatever mechanism it is that gets us there.

It violates the created order and the union of two becoming one flesh. As Eve was taken from Adam, so will man and woman be made one flesh again by their sexual union. It spits in the face of God's created order and will for us and it spits in the face of the Gospel with Christ as the groom and the church as the bride.

Beyond that, scripture condemns it just like every other sin. If nothing else, it is a sin because God says so.

And if we take your logic to it's full conclusion: Pedophiles should be blessed by marrying and sleeping with their child spouse. Why not throw beastiality and marriage to animals in while we are at it.

Someone telling me they're gay is like someone telling me they once had pancakes for breakfast. I don't care. It means nothing to me. is Jesus Christ their Lord and Savior? That's what concerns me.

If you're not trying to preach to a bunch of gay people, it is simple. Be a friend and tell him/her about Jesus. There is no SOP ( Standard Operating Procedure) to save a soul. Just one name and one book, Jesus and Bible....
 
The truth is, I've desired pancakes before and I've even tried them. So I know what is possible with and without Christ. The thought of eating pancakes makes me sick now.

Yes let'ts equate gay people with pedophiles, and those who do weird stuff with animals...that's going to go over so well. It's also a tested strategy used throughout history to demonize enimies. That line of thinking is beneath your station.
