Speaking of oatmeal, I'm a big fan of it during the colder months. I had been buying a diabetic friendly recipe and not thinking about it. That's the problem... I DIDN'T THINK ABOUT IT. I have major migraines. Like, they go on for days, type of migraines. So yesterday I finally read the ingredients on the box because I'm looking for food triggers. The artificial sweetener in it is a big trigger for me, and I had been poisoning myself for months. I feel stupid. I know to look for sweeteners and all that in foods, but because it was steel cut oatmeal, I assumed everything was peachy. Sigh. So I bought new oatmeal that isn't sweetened with anything weird, it's steel cut, and organic. It's cinnamon plum and very tasty. Cinnamon is good to keep glucose levels in check, so that's something.
You figured out what might be causing the migraines? AWESOME! Sorry it turned out to be something stupid, but then again, this is easily fixed, so I say it's a WIN!

I had a dream last night that I got a text message from a friend I haven't spoken to in years, and all the message said was "There's been accidental reproduction".

I didn't know if that meant that she was pregnant, or if the new species she was breeding in her science lab broke out of containment and was reproducing. Because she had a science lab. I don't know why or how, but she had one.

So the majority of the dream was spent trying to figure out which one she meant, until I finally ran into her at a grocery store and asked her, and she told me all she meant was that the moldy lasagna in her fridge had duplicated itself. She was really angry that good food hadn't multiplied.

I woke up feeling like...WAT?
COOLEST. DREAM. EVAR. O_O

i have some LOCAL honey! It's just like regular honey only less calories. Why could it cure a cold?
I hadn't heard about the antibiotic nature of honey. Interesting. I knew about local honey helping with local seasonal allergies though. It's actually important to get honey that was harvested during the season that you have allergy trouble with. Farmer's markets are a great place to find season specific honey. It's actually dark or light colored depending on the season and local plants. Fascinating stuff, honey is.

Oh no! What sort of artificial sweeteners? I know high fructose corn syrup gives me migraines like no other =\ Hope that means you're feeling better?

I never would have though to put cinnamon and plum together...but sounds interesting!

I have chronic migraines because I slammed my head into a dashboard a decade ago, Grace. Fake sugar is a trigger, not the cause. I will always have migraines, but I may be able to better control the onset. That's all.

It was sucrulose in the oatmeal, but any fake sugar will do trigger something. I have headaches everyday, so I have to learn how to manage them. There's no getting around it.

Am allergic to almonds and just had pine nuts. May not have been a good idea. Fortunately it isn't anaphylaxes inducing, so hopefully I should be fine

I wanted to let you know that your booger story must be catching (or rather, clinging...)

I went to the doctor today and she was the NICEST person... with a booger hanging out of her nose. She was so sweet I couldn't bring myself to say anything, and when she was demonstrating something about sinuses, it got wiped away in the process.

At the very least, it was a good reminder that even the intellectual elite of our society... are still human.

Ooooh, sucralose! Splenda....ugh. That stuff gives me severe brain fog.

I gave my son yogurt for a snack. He was doing fine with it, so I started washing dishes. After a few minutes, I heard what I thought was a belch...I shook my head and kept doing dishes. Another minute later, my son said, "Mom! I PUKED!" So of course I came running.

I tried to find out if he was sick, if he felt okay, all of that. He said, "I'm fine. I just put the spoon down my throat."

Oh.

I asked him why he would do that. He said, "To see what would happen. Because I'm a MAD SCIENTIST! MUAHAHA!"

...the results of this "experiment" were that he got to learn how to clean up puke.

Yup. He's the son of his mother alright. Two mad scientist gloved thumbs up.

Try stevia. Not the Wal-Mart "Truvia," real stevia. Truvia is mostly erythritol. Real stevia comes with a really tiny scoop, I mean REALLY tiny, and for good reason. A teaspoon of stevia is far too much for a gallon of tea.

I can't acquire a taste for stevia. Probably my taste buds are too sugar loaded. Which is why I use honey. I only use 1/3 as much. So if a recipe calls for 1 cup of honey, I only use 1/3 cup. I know honey is still kind of sugary, but it's really not the worst sweetener out there.

The level of sweetness is really a matter of taste, and it's something that your tongue gets used to after a while. I live in the sowth (the SOWTH ah said!) and some people have the unfortunate habit of dumping two cups of sugar in a chocolate pie. We use FOUR POUNDS of sugar in the sweet tea at work. When I cook for us I use a lot less sugar.

Then again, honey is much sweeter for sugar, ounce for ounce. If the recipe calls for a cup of sugar, better make it a quarter cup, or a third of a cup at most of honey.

Yeah, there were times that even 1/3 cup was too much. It really depends on what type of recipe it is.

All of this discussion about allergies.

Has anyone else here ever successfully lost an allergy? I used to love milk and then I couldn't drink it any more, and now I can drink it again. I think it's excercise related, as it only happened after I started working out regularly, but it's still really nice to have lost an allergy. I can eat ice cream again, not that I ever do on my diet.

My dad used to have severe nut allergies. He's now able to eat almonds (he's ate them on accident recently, and they gave him 0 reactions. This has happened on a few occasions this past year.)

Oops, yes, that's what I meant. I knew you were trying to find out what was triggering them. Still good news though. :)
