Dang it, Shouryu; I'm not sure if that counted or not O.< Someone else can decide if I got his guess right.

I did sort of try your recipe for oatmeal w/ the broth and meat (that you posted in my thread over a year ago), and I actually did really like it, but I didn't have the "correct" type of oats. I just got some steel-cut type, and I intend to follow your directions to a T, brother Shour. Also, I'm wondering your thoughts on the new "3 minute" steel cut oats that I just heard about today. Sounds a bit like heresy to me, but I'll bow to your authority on the subject.

Is it possible to dig this recipe back up?

Eating gummy bears is a bad idea ANY time of the day. They're gross.
One of the ingredients of that candy is gelatine, which is made from animal carcases.
So good thing you kicked that habit...

Speaking of oatmeal, I'm a big fan of it during the colder months. I had been buying a diabetic friendly recipe and not thinking about it. That's the problem... I DIDN'T THINK ABOUT IT. I have major migraines. Like, they go on for days, type of migraines. So yesterday I finally read the ingredients on the box because I'm looking for food triggers. The artificial sweetener in it is a big trigger for me, and I had been poisoning myself for months. I feel stupid. I know to look for sweeteners and all that in foods, but because it was steel cut oatmeal, I assumed everything was peachy. Sigh. So I bought new oatmeal that isn't sweetened with anything weird, it's steel cut, and organic. It's cinnamon plum and very tasty. Cinnamon is good to keep glucose levels in check, so that's something.




I'm still craving Pepsi like there's no tomorrow. And coffee! I need some coffee...

I had a dream last night that I got a text message from a friend I haven't spoken to in years, and all the message said was "There's been accidental reproduction".

I didn't know if that meant that she was pregnant, or if the new species she was breeding in her science lab broke out of containment and was reproducing. Because she had a science lab. I don't know why or how, but she had one.

So the majority of the dream was spent trying to figure out which one she meant, until I finally ran into her at a grocery store and asked her, and she told me all she meant was that the moldy lasagna in her fridge had duplicated itself. She was really angry that good food hadn't multiplied.

I woke up feeling like...WAT?

On a COMPLETELY unrelated note, I no longer have an addiction to gummy candy. Thank you all for your support as I kicked the habit.

I can verify this which is something didymos almost never gets. They make them out of koala bears, Jilly. In Germany! The poor little fellers are ground up, freeze dried, and powdered then reassembled into "gummibarchen". I spoke to a disgruntled assembly line worker at the forced labor plant and they tell me they're only getting about 630 gummy bears out of a 20 lb female koala. I asked whether they thought that was wasteful and they said "we are not eenterested en the one, we are only eenterested en the many". They said "we laugh at your amerikan children chewing on gristle and bone of the koala".

Well, actually, the claim isn't completely false. As long as the honey is LOCAL, it could help with the symptoms of a cold. However, honey and cinnamon can't kill the cold virus.

I can see how one can think my statement was about CC or forums, but if that was the case I wouldn't still wonder what I meant by it.

For me the 99% drivel goes way beyond online forums (and CC is the only one I participate in)..
its also the increasingly horrific stories in the news, the conflicts in the world, the global economic issues, the volatility of the stock market, the political polarization in our country (a.k.a., liberals vs. conservatives), young men and women using the F word in public during normal conversation like its nothing, people being callous, insensitive and rude in public, people running red lights, driving with their lights off, crabby and ungrateful store employees, the huge lack of common decency that's almost everywhere, etc...

Yea, I know... some will say that I'm just getting old, but others including me might believe its 2 Timothy 3 coming to life as we speak..

Well, some Dr. Oz Duchess turned out to be.... I guess we'll never know wwjd. I did, however, use your advice in a practical application! Since it's antibacterial, I rubbed a bunch of honey on my hands and I have to say - not only are they free of germs, I can pick up practically anything! Paper, pens - literally I don't even have to grip anything! Look a here - I can even pick up a stapler!

Most certainly, Paul ! I had actually gone back to get it an hour-ish before you asked . I had asked him how to make it since I had seen him mention eating it previously, and he was kind enough to do so. Here's the post in which he gives the glorious recipe, which I intend to try for myself in its entirety VERY soon!

Savoury oatmeal - the perfect winter's breakfast! I shall post the ten minute method!


1/4 c steel-cut oats
1 tbsp butter
6-8 oz of broth (I usually use chicken, sometimes beef)
1 egg
Optional: 2-3 oz of ground/shredded/diced pre-cooked meat


Soak 1/4 cup of steel-cut oats in 3/4 cup of water overnight; it does not need to be refrigerated, but I would cover it. (Yes, you must use steel-cut oats and not rolled oats, because rolled oats are inferior and if someone tries to deny this, they are wrong.) In the morning, use your small saucepan or even a small non-stick skillet and melt a tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Drain your oats as well as you can, then toss 'em in the melted butter, and let 'em toast up. In about a minute, they'll have absorbed the butter, and started to brown slightly; if they smell smokey and you see some oats turning black, your heat was too high, but you're not dead yet, just add the stock. If after a minute or two, you've toasted the oats to a nice light brown, boost the heat and quickly add the stock. (If you're adding meat, now's the time to do that, too.) Bring it to a boil quickly (usually about a minute or two), crank the heat to low and cover. Let it simmer for five minutes. (Pack your lunch for the day at this time.) After the five minutes, take it off the heat, take off the lid, wait 30 seconds, then crack one glorious egg on top. Stir it gently; the yolk will blend with the broth to make it rich and silky (and will cook just right without curdling into scrambled eggs), while the white will become tiny flecks of texture amongst the oats. Add black pepper and/or hot sauce and/or sriracha, if so inclined. Either consume once it will no longer burn your tongue, or pour into a thermos like I do, to eat at work.


Since I'm a protein-fiend, the egg isn't quite enough, which is why I add meat. Shredded chicken works wonderfully, as does crumbled up breakfast sausage (I get the turkey stuff), and diced bacon. Even plain ol' ground beef works.


I pretty much have to prep it this way, since I ate two packets of Quaker oats almost every day sophomore and junior years in high school. Burned my tastebuds out on sweet oatmeal as a result (Apples and Cinnamon USED to be my favorite, followed by the various fruit-and-creme variations). No longer; savoury is the only way I can take it now.

It's ironic to me that Islam, the world religion seemingly most notorious for standing in opposition to religious freedom, is much more welcomed and accepted in secular and post-Christian culture (aka the United States and many European countries) than is Christianity or even Judaism, world religions much more friendly to and even supportive of religious liberty.

This is on my mind after hearing today that Duke University, a private, secular university that removed a Chik-fil-a restaurant from its grounds after its owner voiced public support for biblical/traditional marriage, is now going to regularly sound a Muslim call to prayer across its campus every Friday.

This isn't meant to be a doom-and-gloom post, but rather a statement of the irony of the situation and my own lack of surprise at the double-standards that Christianity faces.

I mention this every time the topic of honey comes up, so here I go again: local honey is also good for those with allergies. Local honey, from local bees who visit local flowers... the same local flowers that are causing your allergies... you do the math. But it does work.

Though cinnamon does have some wonderful anti bacterial/viral properties. As it always goes, you just gotta let the cold run its course. And putting the mixture in chamomile tea is even better!

You can also use cinnamon and honey (and if you want, add a little lemon) and use it as a bit of an immune booster/preventative measure against colds. Not 100% guaranteed to work, but it really can't hurt. I need to go grab some raw local honey...

Honey and cinnamon isn't a magic potion, but it's one of the more useful mixtures out there, and it never hurts to always have those two things in your house.

I gave my son yogurt for a snack. He was doing fine with it, so I started washing dishes. After a few minutes, I heard what I thought was a belch...I shook my head and kept doing dishes. Another minute later, my son said, "Mom! I PUKED!" So of course I came running.

I tried to find out if he was sick, if he felt okay, all of that. He said, "I'm fine. I just put the spoon down my throat."

Oh.

I asked him why he would do that. He said, "To see what would happen. Because I'm a MAD SCIENTIST! MUAHAHA!"

...the results of this "experiment" were that he got to learn how to clean up puke.
