I don't really like girls who wear makeup. (mascara, eye shadow, foundation, gloss)

I'm not going to say where I got the images or who the girls are but... I'll let you see and then I'll explain.









The images on the left look like real people, that I would want to approach or actually talk to. And the people on the left I would just as soon not talk to or pretend they didn't exist.


It wasn't until I saw these that it hit me, how biased(?) I am. I suppose I have been very judgmental of people who wear makeup. Simply ignoring them or believing they were shallow or one dimensional or using it to cover a train wreck of emotional scars.


BUT, in this personal discovery I noticed that I am a minority. Most guys like the girls on the right more than the ones on the left.






So yeah.

In our culture, and many cultures in the world, girls wear makeup.

It just isn't a big deal either way.

It's still the inside that matters more than anything...

Though I have to say, I am really surprised how these women look SO different from their natural selves. However as long as no one else is harmed by them wearing makeup, *shrugs*....

See that's just the thing I don't understand. Growing up I was always taught, be Yourself! Be the best you that you can be. Don't worry about what everyone else is doing, just do you.


Makeup is literally the opposite of all that. It is caving to social pressures. Its masking yourself to fit in.


We all scratch our heads and wonder why people like Kim Kardashian and J'WOW and Lady Gaga dominate the headlines, and yet to a degree, I don't see the daylight between how they appear and how a lot of women appear.

Maybe it's a little of both. Woman may feel pretty by putting on the war paint. Not because of attention from men, but because of their own opinion.

Maybe.

And maybe some girls wear makeup because they like wearing makeup.

Ya know, we can make a big issue out of "nothing".
Do you think cutting your hair or ironing your pants is "natural"?

Maybe the best way to let people "be themselves" is to just leave them alone, and stop questioning every non-doctrinal, minute, tiny, insignificant personal choice they make.

The last I checked my bible, it talked about this thing called "liberty in Christ", which covers all of these silly little areas of personal taste and personal preference.

There's this too. We had two threads, at least, in the past year on this subject. In both cases there were women who said they simply enjoy putting on the makeup, and how it made them feel. It wasn't about how others viewed them, but what they got out of it themselves.
It really depends. Some women do it for the reasons you said, Liamson, and some women do it for their own purposes. And some are a mix of both. It's presumptuous, as someone who has not had to personally deal with this issue, for you to speak to the motives of all women, especially with such a negative view.
I tend to gravitate towards women who wear little or no makeup. I didn't even know i did. But i also am aware that many times women look good with it on too. And sometimes the intent helps. I dated a woman who would wear makeup, or a little more than usual, because she was doing it to make herself look good for me. She didn't need it, but she did look nice and the gesture behind it meant a lot to me. So don't be so quick to assume you know the reasons why women wear makeup.



hahahaha... i figured out who the women were.... nice choice =P

Thanks for posting this Liamson, it showed me I have a bias against makeup on women...Had a few not so good stereotypes in my brain.

What the heck is your problem?

I make oh I dunno one thread per every 5 months. And In this particular thread I say, what I prefer, and the background of why.

I'm not making a declarative statement about the universal nature of women.

"Leave people alone" Did you just say this cause it sounded good to you? Am I not leaving people alone? How would you even know?



And you take it to mean that I am Not letting people be themselves, questioning every "Non-doctrinal" minute, tiny, insignificant personal choice.

non-doctrinal? Since when do I ever talk about doctrine? Of course its not Doctrinal. Life is not Doctrinal.


I mean really? Is this a matter for "Liberty in Christ"???? What in the world are you talking about? Like seriously.



I'm not going to lie and make some universally acceptable statement that makes everyone feel good like, "Some women look good with makeup and some don't its all just a personal choice." < Whatever that means. Cause its worthless.



And if the Margin of your Bible so adequately covers everything so well, why even comment here? Oh thats right, its to let all of us know just how holy minded and spiritualized you are. Above such petty discussions and disagreements, thanks to (Insert Christianese statement), you can live a life unconcerned about such matters.





Rather than say something like, "Women are beautiful from the inside out." Or "I prefer X or Y."








See, this is the Big Issue, out of nothing. Its the Christianese high horse white knight coming in to save the day.

There's a difference on caking yourself up and putting on some touches to make some features look more noticeable/better presented. I'm not one to use make up much even if I need some, but generalizing where wearing make up = fake is a bit extreme. Unfortunately, those who cake themselvesup may be convinced that they need to due to social pressure and low self esteem. I knew a few like this where they couldn't go out without it. :-(

Well, as a girl who wears make up just as often as not, I can tell you two things.

1. The majority of women do it because of how it makes THEM feel about themselves. It's not to put on a show, impress people, or cover up who we are. Those of us who don't cake it on are just accentuating the beauty God gave us.

2. You would not believe the amount of pressure and judgement placed on women to wear makeup. And the comments and looks we get when we don't.

Just a little food for thought.

Whether you like or dislike girls with or without make up. It's nothing to do with your choice. Girls choose to wear make up some girls don't. It's up to them. However, Girls can say about us men wearing Deodorant, after shave balm, or lotion. is that make up too? or when you take a shower or bath, you use soaps, gels or liquids to clean yourself with, again is'nt that make up. you cant pass the fact of saying you dislike girls wearing make up, when we guys do. I agree, there are those who wear too much or too little, and again its down to the indevidual choice.

Girls are to be liked by personallity, not by looks. however and how much girls use make up.
