well as Christians we shouldnt lie. Because lying is a sin. But what if there is a circumstance where if lie isnt chosen as the resort an innocent life may be lost or to defeat the unrighteous.? Please guys shed some light.

It is wrong to lie. But you need to tell the truth. If someone's life is in jeopardy, then your need to tell someone so you can get that person help. But the part where you said, " But what if there is a circumstance where if lie isnt chosen as the resort an innocent life may be lost or to defeat the unrighteous.?" I didn't quite understand what you were meaning there. If you could please explain that a little bit better.
 
What type of situation would bring this about? is this a probable situation?
 
Well first of all lying is a sin.

I don't know anywhere in the Bible it says that you can go ahead and sin to prevent something from happening.

If someone told me to deny Christ or die, should I then sin to save my life. God forbid, my soul is more presious then my life, and God is not going to work through sin, when He is everything but sin.
 
Better to die telling the truth than to live lying (eternally speaking, that is)
 
I can't think of any possible situation that this would come up, but, if for some reason, someone's life was at stake and could be saved by simply telling a lie, then I would do it.

I think God would be happier that you told a lie to save a life rather than tell the truth and cause someone to die.
 
I think if you told the truth and that person died....then that was Gods will and perfect timing for that person to pass away and go to heaven.
 
Many good Christians in Germany lied to protect Jews during the Holocaust. No one in their right mind would say it would have been more moral if those who risked their own lives to protect the lives of innocents had simply been honest when asked if there were Jews in their homes.

Lying and deceiving are traits attibuted to satan, in the bible. He is referred to as a liar in John 8:44 ... he is a liar and the father of lies. Another passage of scripture tells us that liars will not enter heaven, Revelation 21:8 ... But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars--their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. Deuteronomy 5:20 says "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor".

While this might make it seem clear that all lying is unacceptable and considered sinful, there were times when, in order to save lives or render assistance, individuals in the bible did, in fact, lie.

Before Jericho was taken by the Israelites, spies were sent ahead of the Israelite army. A prostitute, by the name of Rahab, in Joshua 2, hid the spies on her roof and did not reveal their identities to those who were searching for them. Her life and the lives of her family were spared when Israel took the city.

Abraham, being afraid for his life, lied to King Abimelech, saying that his wife Sarah was his sister, because she was beautiful and he feared the King would kill him and take her. Genesis 20.

Joseph, whose brothers had cast him into a pit, and had left him for dead, deceived his brothers who had come to Egypt in search of grain. He pretended to speak only Egyptian and also concealed his identity, but revealed it at a later time and helped his brothers.

There is no mention of God's displeasure with any of these, in fact, Rahab's deeds were honored and were recorded in Hebrews 11:31 ... By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient.

It would appear that in the saving of lives and providing aid, there were exceptions to the rule. The distinction may be between lies to save, and lies to harm, but one thing is clear, none of these were rebuked. The fact that they lied or deceived was never an issue.

There are some instances where people of God had to lie. Abraham lied to save Sarah. God has even given advice to his people to lie. Make sure its not for your own gain.
 
Lying is a sin, because if you think about it... if you have to lie about something, your just trying to cover upsomething. in a life/death situation... well i cant think of a situation that would envolve having to lie to save some1. but if you think of one i'll be delieghted to hear it :)

I'm pretty sure the first thing to come to my mind woujldn't be lie. Pray might be a bit more fitting here. God will let his will be done.
