wow, i'm SO loving all this info. thanks for those who've shared, and keep it coming.

ok, so before we proceed, i should point out that i usually don't carry a purse, not for most outings. or if i do, i take a very small one. but... when i need to travel, spend time at a place, or am gone for the day, this is what i take:

it's one of those totes that is about the h x w of a magazine, and several inches of depth.

here's what i found last week, in no particular order:

zippery wallet thingie, with my debit card, license, my concealed carry permit and about 50 business cards. membership cards for insurances, and a couple other businesses.

about 14 elastic pony/pigtail holders, and two headbands

2 lipsticks

9 lipglosses

5 burts bees tinted balms

1 small container of mascara

1 powder compact

1 bottle contained assorted meds: tylenol, aspirin, and phenergan (an anti-nausea drug for emergencies)

2 carabiners

2 wrinkled tracts (the four spiritual laws)

a leatherman multi-tool

several small paint card samples in green for a project i'm contemplating

2 small containers of different SPF products (spray and lotion)

pink emery board

3 emergen-c packets

1 small rosewater spritzer

1 small container body butter

1 tiny bottle of eye drops sandwiched between my reading glasses (inside the case)

two kleenex stuffed inside the inner pocket zipper

pepper spray

an extra electrical charging cord, to use in my car/on the go

5 fine point pens, 1 mechanical pencil, 2 highlighters, yellow and blue, 2 calligraphy pens

4 index cards with random memory verses written on them

my kindle - which had two thank you notes shoved behind the cover

two pairs of ear buds

2 thumb drives, full of music - labelled "workout" PL and "work" PL

a small notebook that has a small pen that fits inside, with an elastic around it

a tiny electronic/digital recorder

an extra cell phone battery

an older church bulletin that was used to pass me an amusing note in church a few weeks back

2 old lift tickets from this last season

an old peanut butter balance bar

2 individual packets of almond butter

3 pieces of pepperment dentene gum

a little case of of interdental pics

about a dozen black jelly bracelets

a turquoise ring that i forgot about

2 pairs of hoop earrings that i apparently took off before i got home and forgot about

a pair of arm warmers that i had rolled up and stuffed inside the zipper pocket

double stick fashion tape

tide pen

a couple small sandwich bags

four mangosteen green tea bags

6 stevia/monkfruit packets

a solid angel perfume "ring"

a small lighter

a few twist ties

a cloth measuring tape

an empty 35 cc oral syringe

a spare pair of boot straps

"spare parts from my archery stuff"

ok, i'm a little horrified this all fit into my "big purse". hmmmm. do i get some kind of preparedness badge???

I've never been a purse girl, and right now I usually carry just a small wallet sized bag with a strap to wear like a purse (because here they don't let you carry any sort of bigger bag into the supermarket with you). When I leave the house it contains:

Money
Phone
Keys
maybe some tissues
a few business cards and ID stuff

If I need to carry anything else like a water bottle I usually stuff it in a backpack and go. I love big backpacks.

Wallet - the navy blue striped thing. conveniently stores cards, entry badges, and even fits my phone. i avoid carrying cash.
Pepper spray - located inside the little purple case by the sunglasses
sunglasses - mostly so i dont get into car wrecks.
financial calculator
reusable water bottle
aspirin and ibuprofen
mascara, eye pencil
lip balm, lip gloss
rosebud salve
kindle - in the chevron case. unlimited access to books, music, and if there's wifi- the internets.
pencil - don't want to risk having a pen explode everywhere
travel toothbrush
planner
flashcards - i have 6 sets of cards i need to memorize in the next few months, so i switch out a set every few days.

I tend to do my more 'organized hoarding' in my car or at my work desk.

Gypsy, I feel like a TOTAL minimalist next to you. :D

And how in the world do you fit all that into the one bag you showed us? You are going to have to teach me.

If I carried everything you described (and I almost do), I would need a rolling suitcase.

(Don't think I haven't thought about it.) :)

When I was in college, I carried a huge bag that I made rather hurriedly out of an old skirt. It had all my school jank in it. It was kind of pretty, with painted flowers and beads on it. I got a lot of compliments on it, along with some remarks about its size. :p
P1230249.JPG

Now, I do everything I can to avoid carrying a purse or bag of any kind, because I know I'll set it down somewhere and forget it. So, I have keys in my front pocket, as well as random coins. In my back pocket, I have driver's license and a credit card. I hate carrying stuff SO MUCH that I memorized my library card number, just so I wouldn't have to worry about forgetting it or ever taking it with me. I memorized my credit card number, too, but that's mostly for online purchases... I swipe it at the grocery store.

I have a prepaid brick-type cell phone for emergencies, but I'll usually leave it in the car if I remember to bring it at all.

If I'm going to be gone for a long time, or if I'm planning to eat anything, or if I really ought to have my cell phone with me, I'll wear cargo pants. I know I won't forget them like I'd forget a purse. :p

haahaaaahaaaaa! like the clowns in the ittty-bittty car, right???

as if i need to say this again, i don't typically carry this bag with me all the time--which is how i probably got so much in it.

it's my "waiting/travelling/day-pack" bag, so yeah, it's amply stocked for any mcgyver-esque kind of situation. and then a little too much redundancy, which has since been remedied.

actually the majority of those items are pretty tiny, but even i was surprised by how much was in there.

i will confess that it did look a little on the concave side, but um, perfectly zipped and only weighed 14 lbs. ; p

now the sides are no longer concave, and it only weighs 10lbs. haahahaaaa. : )

Pockets... i always have wallet, cell phone, keys, sun glasses (daytime only of course), a list of all my current meds, a pen, too much change and a napkin. Sometimes my MP3 player as well. I often keep a book in my car as well, for times when i eat out alone. But i haven't had one in months. I've read all the good ones i own, repeatedly, in the past few years and haven't been able to afford new books.

When i gear up for hospital visits i take my laptop backpack. This would contain... laptop, charger, cordless mouse, mousepad, phone charger, chocolate covered granola bars, nail clippers, external hard drive, mp3 player, thumb drives, beanie, sometimes meds, comb, ear buds, bigger headphones and some extra clothes. I think that's everything, if not it's close enough.

I usually do not carry a purse... Just my wallet if I go places.

But for work, I have this red designed bag that my dad brought from Ethiopia which I throw everything in for work. :)

Included are the following:
Wallet
Phone and Ipod
Headphones
Small Schedule Book
Bible with a pen/highlighter
Bag of popcorn and/or pistachios (snack for work)
Stethoscope
Small black bag containing work items: pens, paper tape, two flashlights, pair of scissors, watch with second hand

I found another purse while clearing out my closet. I have no idea when the last time I used it was, but inside I found:

-lime green, super thin winter gloves
-my missing iPod (also lime green)
-a silver Zippo with a blue and green glittery, swirly design on it
-a small, striped monkey
-five dollars

It's like Christmas up in here (which might have been the last time I used that purse).
