if you have a free moment today, i'd be grateful if you'd keep a young sister, "kate", in your prayers today. she's going through a very tough time right now, and especially wrestling with her faith.
because of events in her life, she's felt abandoned by God, and in a sense, given up on Him.
we talked last night, and we're planning to talk again tonight.
thanks in advance.
oh, and happy friday!
I have a prayer request, friends.
As some of you know, my family runs a children's ministry in rural Philippines, offering academic tutoring to kids for the sake of drawing them to Christ. Teach them to read so they can read God's Word. The ministry has really been growing, and we even managed to put up new, larger structures after the last ones were torn down by the major typhoon last year.
Recently, some catholic priests wandered up into this rural farmland area (they've never cared about the kids before) and were shocked to learn that these kids were walking up to our property and learning about Jesus. They started accusing all the on-site volunteers (including my aunt, uncle, and cousins) of taking advantage of the kids and simply trying to make money, even though all of this is run by donations and we've never asked anything from the kids or their families. They think they have some sort of authority so they're "forbidding" kids from participating and now they're spreading rumors back in the more populated town area.
My aunt and uncle are getting a little discouraged. Please pray that God guides our steps during this difficult situation.
When I think things are calming down.. that's because there's another storm brewing. My sister has been hospitalized because of a ruptured ovarian cyst and her stomach is bleeding internally. My mom is also sick and man oh man I don't see the light at the end of this tunnel. I still have no idea if I am going to make it to Canada because of all the things in my way. So stressed out.

Today I had to tell my husband's family not to buy us Christmas presents. This wasn't easy for me to do. I know they will understand but every year it's me struggling to buy gifts for people who don't need anything.
Ok I'm making them sound awful, they aren't, it's just never easy to say hey in laws I'm breaking your family tradition. My husband should tell them, but he won't, so I took Tue bull by the horns. This year Christmas will be nice not stressful, amen!

This is always such a thing, huh? When I was married, we finally all decided that we'd buy his parents something, and the kids something small (only four kids including ours) but not buy gifts for everyone. In my mother's family growing up, we drew names for Christmas and got ONE person a gift. It worked great. In my own family we just get the kids small gifts. Christmas gifts get out of hand so quickly. Baked goods are always nice for those people who have everything.
Yep. Baked goods. Christmastime is the only time I actually ENJOY baking. My dad and his wife are not wanting for anything, so the last few years the kids and I have gotten them a donation in their name to World Horizons - mosquito nets to Africa, someducks or chickens - that sort of thing, along with a few baked cookies, eggnog bread, some homemade confections. It has worked very well.
So why are we thinking of Christmas already?
