The hotel clerk took the $2 he stole and bought an instant lottery ticket that won a million dollars. He then told his boss to stick it where the sun don't shine and gave the guys in the room who were drinking and playing loud rock music another dollar bringing the total cost for the room to the $27 in your equation. I am unable to resolve this mystery but can only surmise that the missing dollar is in the dishonest clerk's pocket but cannot prove by a mathematical equation. He was later observed buying a $1 Slim Jim at the nearest 7/11 but this has not been substantiated. The 3 guys in the room were later arrested for being drunk and disorderly and were liable for trashing the room as well.
They didnt pay 27, they paid 28.Three friends go to a hotel to rent a room.
The desk clerk says there is a 3 bed suite and offers it for $30.00.
Each person pays $10.00 and goes to the room.
The hotel manager questions the desk clerk.
The hotel manager tells the desk clerk, the room is only $25.00,
and gives the clerk 5, one dollar bills to pay them back.
On the way to the room the clerk realizes 5 one dollar bills can’t be split 3 ways.
Dishonestly, he keeps 2 dollars and gives each person back one dollar.
So now the 3 friends have paid a total of $27.00 for the room, and the clerk has 2 dollars.
Where did the other dollar go? $27.00 + $2.00 = $29.00!
They didnt pay 27, they paid 28.
They paid $27.00, but their change was $3.00; not $2.00.![]()
