Sometimes a zing is delayed for many a moon...
There's a story about a young teenage boy who was getting ready for his part in a school play one night. He asked a friend if he looked "fly" (translation: cool.) A girl who was in his class was walking by and said, "You? You'd never be fly!"
After his class graduated this boy went on to join the army. He became a bit of a risk-taker - in fact some of the men in his unit complained he was trying to get them all killed. But he always came through, always achieved the objective of the mission. He was decorated as a hero many times, received many medals.
After he was honorably discharged from the army he went back home. When he got off the train, the first place he went was to the house where that girl, now a married woman with two kids, was living. He knocked on the door and when she came to the door he said, "Well I don't know. Maybe I could be fly if I wanted to." Then he turned and walked away.
