Ahh, guess what? They won't say nothing to a person smoking a joint on the street here either, But if someone drinking alcohol in a public area, they will arrest him.

yeah, they're mostly supplementing their budget here with traffic violations. meanwhile, you can walk down main street smoking a joint and they will say nothing. sometimes i think i'm the only one here who isn't under the influence. a week ago, i took a meeting with a client at his (private, small) business. he pulled out a joint and asked me if i minded. i was speechless.

and that's saying something.

Oh, they don't do this here in Toronto either. But I don't know about Vancouver, I've never been.
But guess what Fenner? I was gonna pay a fine of $300 dollars for crossing the road from the wrong side simply because a Police car had to stop for me to cross and I didn't see it's a Police car, so he stopped me!! :D But I talked myself out of it :DKept saying I didn't know bla bla bla n' he was nice at the end didn't give me the ticket

Wow, that's a lot! Glad you don't have to pay it.

Did you take him up on his offer Monicat? ;)
no. i didn't even consider the possibility that he was offering me some. i'm pretty naive, actually. people shock me all.the.time.

fortunately, i was there to have him sign contracts and drop off creatives so, i think i said something like, "if you don't mind waiting, i'll be out of your hair in a couple minutes since this won't take long at all." i'm actually kind of stressed a little about this, since i'll be spending a lot more time with him in the foreseeable future. i'm going to have to work on how i am going to handle this if it continues in the future.

it's not an unusual problem here. there are LOT of potheads here, and we're on the cusp of unrestricted legalization (currently it's only medically accepted). it's like what the booze bar became in the corporate offices in the 50s and 60s. at my last company people would smoke in the bathroom and i'm not talking about low level employees, like my boss, who was a vp. meanwhile, 4 days a week they would roll around a cart full of alcohol (beer and wine) for employees around 4:00. it was a very subtle and effective way to keep the employees working until 7-8 every night.

So....a friend who has extremely negative tendencies/is extremely controlling in relationships/makes a LOT of anti-men comments asked me today why I thought she was still single. I told her that as long as she wanted to be the husband she would probably not have one. Guess whose favorite person I am not at the moment?

I love her. I want the best for her. I have listened for years to her rant against men. I have prayed with/for her.

An honest friend will answer you even if you don't like the answer.

Could I have cushioned my answer a bit? Maybe. Would it have had the same impact? I don't know.
she asked, I think you did her a favor.
You know....

it's REALLY REALLY weird that I posted this just 5 hours before Jullianna had posted. Maybe it's just me. I just find it interesting.

When you speak a hard word into people's lives, you don't cause a war. You bring light to one that they've refused to acknowledge and it's one they cannot simply ignore now.

I'mma be scarce for this week, FYI. Not because I need to be, but it's just a crazy week at work, paired with a symphony cycle to boot.

Come Saturday, after 6pm, I may be drinking a taller-than-usual ration of 15-year-old something-or-other just to ease down from the craziness of the week. You guys have fun. ^_^
Have a great week, Shouryu. :)

Whilst eating chicken I start to think about the chicken running around. I wonder if the chicken had a mom and dad. Did chicken know it was about to die? Finally, did chicken ever think it would be sitting on my table drenched in ranch?

It freaks me out...

Getting really sick of Christian academia demanding that both parents be involved and not caring about kids from single parent homes. There's kind of an attitude that of ''well, you shouldn't have screwed up your life.'' Does my son deserve less because his family doesn't look like theirs?

I understand that some educational models will present more hurdles for the single-parent family. I just think the attitude should be welcoming and that the school should be willing to sit down with the parents, lay out the issues, and try to find solutions. That would be a lot more Christ-like than an implied "sucks to be you!"

You ever heard the saying "If slaughter houses had glass walls, everyone would be a vegetarian?"

I'm sorry you have to go through that and your son too. There are many single parents and many reasons why people are single parents. It sounds like it's different at a private school then a public school because I usually go to things like parent teacher conferences while my Husband is at work.

They should definitely work with you. They are there to help educate your child, not to play judge on your life.

With everything we have survived, my son's grades really suffered, too. Plus, he has a bit of a learning difference that causes him to be distracted really easily and will just shut down if he gets too stressed. He can do the work but is just not able to thrive in a public school setting. He needs small class sizes and interactive learning environments.

You would think that reaching out to the Christian community would be one of the best resources, but too many of them act like divorce is contagious. I'm not even asking for financial aid or other special treatment at this point. It's frustrating to have to constantly be fighting for my son to just be treated like other kids.

Sometimes the Christian community is worse than the secular community unfortunately. I met a girl in the 10th grade that had to start going to public school because she was kicked out of a Christian school for being pregnant. She may have been married but I'm thinking she was just engaged. Either way, I thought it was a little cold hearted.

Anger, bitterness and pain, then she must have had a bad experience of some sort. I don't know if she shared it with you or not. But that's not a normal feeling especially that it's taking so long like that.

I'd pray for her for God's word to penetrate through her heart and heal her!
She went through a very difficult divorce. Pray with me that she will come to understand why so maybe it won't happen again :(

If they are going to expel pregnant girls, they need to also expel guys and girls who are having sex. I know that's much harder to prove since it's done in secret, but the pregnancy is the RESULT of fornication - not the actual sin itself. :(

If you have a school running things that way, I don't think expecting them to be "fair" in anything they do is realistic. lol. What really saddens me, is how many people in the Church in general would probably agree with this type of expulsion with a "serves them sinners right!" mentality.

My advice to anyone facing expulsion or being fired for pregnancy is to make the other party prove that the pregnancy was a result of fornication. How do they know how a child is conceived? There's the good, old-fashioned way. There's also rape, "donations," or surrogacy. Then sue the pants off of them.

From a tactical standpoint, it's a private school. I'm sure there's an agreement signed by the parents saying that all enrollment/expulsion decisions are ultimately up to the school's administrators. Also, she was 16 when this happened. A 16 year old can't get a "donation" or surrogacy if I'm not mistaken.

Bible wise, suing is not meant for us. We aren't meant to engage in that kind of behavior, even in severe cases.

1 Corinthians 6:7

"[SUP]7 [/SUP]Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded?"
