On Friday, Sydney police were called to bushland near Liverpool where they found a 39-year-old woman with burns to her face and body, who claimed she had been the victim of a chemical attack.
And on Sunday, Melbourne police found a man aged in his 50s, who had been stabbed at Enterprise Park on Flinders St. The man was taken to hospital but did not survive.
The one link between these two crimes? Both victims were homeless.
A 2005 study in the UK of over 300 homeless men and women revealed that they were 13 times more likely to have experienced violence and 47 times more likely to have been victims of theft, compared to the general population.
Almost one-tenth of the homeless people interviewed in the UK study had experienced sexual assault in the past year, the researchers found.
The study asserted that the majority of violence against the homeless is committed by other homeless people - but a startlingly high rate is committed by the general public. Of the violent acts featured in the UK study, 32 per cent were perpetrated by non-homeless people.

There is a growing disconnect with the value of human life. Some lives are worth more than others. Even on this chat I can see some people disregard the suffering of other if they are "different". Even worse a few even justify it.
