The church itself is being destroyed through a disobedience of the word a lack of prayer life the giftings are there all you have to do once receiving the holy ghost is ask and you will receive at least it was in my case you have to believe but the only problem doctrine has to be set like the apostles had laid through christ the rewuirement of an apostle.is to see christ an apostle comes with a mission given by christ himself and remember paul sayin in scripture and last as an untimely birth seen by me , paul saw the glorified risen christ he witnessed ouR lord on the road to damascus
Could I ask a favor of you? Could you use a little punctuation. If you are using a phone, 'carriage returns'--hitting return or enter-- would be a nice substitute?

APOSTLES WERE WITNESSES cont.....

Acts 4
Peter and John Before the Council
1And as they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them, 2greatly annoyed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. 3And they arrested them and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening. 4But many of those who had heard the word believed, and the number of the men came to about five thousand.

5On the next day their rulers and elders and scribes gathered together in Jerusalem, 6with Annas the high priest and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly family. 7And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, “By what power or by what name did you do this?” 8Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders, 9if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, 10let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well. 11This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone.b 12And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

13Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus. 14But seeing the man who was healed standing beside them, they had nothing to say in opposition. 15But when they had commanded them to leave the council, they conferred with one another, 16saying, “What shall we do with these men? For that a notable sign has been performed through them is evident to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. 17But in order that it may spread no further among the people, let us warn them to speak no more to anyone in this name.” 18So they called them and charged them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. 19But Peter and John answered them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, 20for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.” 21And when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people, for all were praising God for what had happened. 22For the man on whom this sign of healing was performed was more than forty years old.

they recognized that they had been with Jesus
we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard

a notable sign has been performed through them
this sign of healing

and:

all were praising God for what had happened

APOSTLES WERE WITNESSES:

Acts 4
They Had Everything in Common

32Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. 33And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. 34There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold 35and laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need. 36Thus Joseph, who was also called by the apostles Barnabas (which means son of encouragement), a Levite, a native of Cyprus, 37sold a field that belonged to him and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

Zone,

Those are great verses. The Twelve apostles were witnesses of the resurrection. Ephesians 4:11 talks about Jesus ascending on high and giving gifts to men, including apostles. Some apostles were given after the ascension. These Twelve were sent out and designated apostles before the ascension.

The apostles, with all their preaching and miracle working, give the church a good example to follow. After all, Jesus said, 'These signs shall follow them that believe.' The idea that this refers only to the Eleven because of the aorist has already been debunked in this thread and has its own thread now. Jesus also said, He that believes in Me, "the works that I do shall He do also....." Here following Jesus' methods by doing miracles and preaching the word. It is indeed a great example for the church to follow.

APOSTLES WERE WITNESSES OF THE LORD - THE RESURRECTED CHRIST

1 Corinthians 9
Paul’s Rights as an Apostle

1Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are you not the result of my work in the Lord? 2Even though I may not be an apostle to others, surely I am to you! For you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord.

3This is my defense to those who sit in judgment on me. 4Don’t we have the right to food and drink? 5Don’t we have the right to take a believing wife along with us, as do the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers and Cephas ? 6Or is it only I and Barnabas who lack the right to not work for a living?

1 Corinthians 15
The Resurrection of Christ

1Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

3For what I received I passed on to you as of first importancea : that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. 6After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.

9For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.

11Whether, then, it is I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed.

they received POWER FROM ON HIGH AT PENTECOST.

Jesus also said, He that believes in Me, "the works that I do shall He do also....." has it's own thread?

FINALLY

where's the film of MULTITUDES COMING to today's Apostles and ALL being healed, even by passing through YOUR shadows.

looking for the thread right now.

YAY! - finally proof that we have apostles today who can actually witness to the resurrection and perform miracles.

thank you!:)

where's the thread where cessationist posts in this thread are debunked and you proved there are apostles today doing the works the Apostles did.

many of them are listed here today.
you know - lame from birth beggars and blind and dead raised and healing in shadows and TESTIFYING TO HAVING SEEN JESUS.
that stuff.

even just the testimonies at this point would be good.
i can use the net and try to verify myself.

got anything? at all?

This passage supports healing continuing. If there is no gift of healing, how could the James operate in it? Read the next verses. James says to confess your sins one to another[/b] and pray one for another that ye may be healed.

James telling people to call the elders doesn't mean they can't get healed through other options. Praying for one another is another means of healing in the very same passage.

God heals through apostles.
God heals through elders.
God heals through evangelists.
God heals through believers who are neither apostles nor elders.

God can heal in answer to prayer.
God can just heal anyone He chooses to.

James 5 does not tie God's hands in any way.

Sorry You're missing the point is IT IS NOT INSTANT HEALING by a spoken word in the name of Jesus. (The Spiritual gift of healing) It is an answer to prayer. God did answered prayers in the Old Testament too.

AGAIN,WHERE DO YOU GET THESE STATEMENTS? Nowhere in scripture does it say that an apostle has to see Jesus to qualify him. Sheesh! Are you just grabbing this out of thin air? PROVE ALL THINGS! The ball's in your court now.
hi Stephen.
did you see the scriptures which clearly said the Apostles had to have seen Jesus, and seen Him in His Resurrection?
there are more.

do you agree with scriptures (the testimony of the eye-witnesses) so far?

I saw verses that showed that one had to have seen Christ to replace Judas as one of the Twelve. I never saw a verse that said one had to have seen Jesus to be an apostle.

Also, I wrote,

That's what's in the thread. The word 'aorist' was in the title. It had fallen to page 2 on the board the last I checked an hour or two ago.

That's a big negatory there, ghostrider.

Here's some more Apostles you forgot:
Barnabus

Andronicus
Junia
Silas
Timothy
Epaphroditus
Apollos

Scripture NEVER mentions them seeing Jesus. The only one who could possibly was Barnabus.

So what? You are making an issue out of a non-issue. Jesus prayed before raising Lazarus from the dead and Peter prayed before raising Tabitha. If the Bible teaches that God heals in response to the prayer of faith, why would that mean He had stopped working through words spoken in the name of Jesus. You are seeing a contradiction where none exists.

And James is likely an early epistle written before some of those 'spoken word' healings occured.

Btw, don't we pray in the name of Jesus?

But we do listen to them ... and read of them ... in God's Word, the holy bible. What and/or who else should we be listening to outside of God's Holy Spirit inspired and written instructions to us ?

UMM But Kerry it's a redefining what the Bible calls a spiritual gift into something else. That's not a good thing when you start redefining to mean something else

I and all of us, I'm certain have prayed for the healing of others many times throughout our lives. Sometimes our prayers are answered according to our requests ... other times God has said no. I have had more than a few prayers said thru tears answered beyond what I could have "realistically" hoped. I believe and know beyond all doubt that God sometimes intercedes supernaturally on our behalf (any answered prayer is supernatural intervention of God.) But I fail to see why any of us would feel the need to call ourselves an apostle or a prophet ... especially in this modern age with the completion of scripture given us. The apostles and prophets of old completed their God-given tasks. Many, if not most suffered greatly for it. Brutally martyred for the faith. Tongues served it's intended purpose as well. Faith in Jesus Christ and sharing the good news of the gospel. What greater thing could any of us do for others than this ?

Acts 9
The Believers at Antioch Rejoice

31When they had read it, they rejoiced because of its encouragement. 32 Judas and Silas, also being prophets themselves, encouraged and strengthened the brethren with a lengthy message. 33After they had spent time there, they were sent away from the brethren in peace to those who had sent them out.

where does it say Silas was an Apostle?

and Timothy? an Apostle? where is he called an Apostle?

Young's Literal Translation
And I thought it necessary Epaphroditus -- my brother, and fellow-workman, and fellow-soldier, and your apostle and servant to my need -- to send unto you,

"Epaphroditus is nowhere else mentioned but in this Epistle; see Philippians 4:18. All that is known of him, therefore, is what is mentioned here. He was from Philippi, and was a member of the church there. He had been employed by the Philippians to carry relief to Paul when he was in Rome Philippians 4:18, and while in Rome he was taken dangerously sick.

But your messenger - Sent to convey supplies to Paul; Philippians 4:18. The original is, "your apostle" - ὑμῶν δὲ ἀπόστολον humōn de apostolon - and some have proposed to take this literally, meaning that he was the apostle of the church at Philippi, or that he was their bishop. The advocates for Episcopacy have been the rather inclined to this, because in Philippians 1:1, there are but two orders of ministers mentioned - "bishops and deacons" - from which they have supposed that "the bishop" might have been absent, and that "the bishop" was probably this Epaphroditus. But against this supposition the objections are obvious:

(1) The word ἀπόστολος apostolos; means properly one sent forth, a messenger, and it is uniformly used in this sense unless there is something in the connection to limit it to an "apostle," technically so called.

(2) the supposition that it here means a messenger meets all the circumstances of the case, and describes exactly what Epaphroditus did. He was in fact sent as a messenger to Paul; Philippians 4:18.

(3) he was not an apostle in the proper sense of the term - the apostles having been chosen to be witnesses of the life, the teachings, the death, and the resurrection of the Saviour; see Acts 1:22; compare the notes, 1 Corinthians 9:1.

(4) if he had been an apostle, it is altogether improbable that he would have seen sent on an errand comparatively so humble as that of carrying supplies to Paul. Was there no one else who could do this without sending their bishop? Would a diocese be likely to employ a "bishop" for such a purpose now?" - Barnes

.......

if you want any other authoritative, inspired apostles (with power) FROM THOSE LISTED IN SCRIPTURE:

1 Corinthians 15
The Resurrection of Christ

3For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, 5and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. 7Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me. 9For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. 11Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.

it says right here over 500 brothers saw Jesus at one time.

anyway...this seems to be a waste of our time, since you don't really care about:

"(3) he was not an apostle in the proper sense of the term - the apostles having been chosen to be witnesses of the life, the teachings, the death, and the resurrection of the Saviour; see Acts 1:22; compare the notes, 1 Corinthians 9:1."

since you're more like the church of Rome - desiring apostolic succession - and the power and authority you claim it gives you - being so close to God after all.

thanks for not accepting what the scriptures say, but for whipping out your tired loopholes to make yourself more than you are. maybe you are an Apostle or Prophet with power and authority - i doubt it, since i've seen no evidence Christ chose you to be a witness of His life, teachings, death, and resurrection. if He had, your name would be in the bible.
