No, I did not misquote anything. I quoted the New Living Translation.
New International Version
Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.

English Standard Version
Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath.

New American Standard Bible
Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day--

King James Bible
Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

Holman Christian Standard Bible
Therefore, don't let anyone judge you in regard to food and drink or in the matter of a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day.

International Standard Version
Therefore, let no one judge you in matters of food and drink or with respect to a festival, a New Moon, or Sabbath days.

NET Bible
Therefore do not let anyone judge you with respect to food or drink, or in the matter of a feast, new moon, or Sabbath days--

Aramaic Bible in Plain English
Let no man disturb you about food or about drink or in the distinctions of feasts and beginnings of months and Sabbaths,

GOD'S WORD® Translation
Therefore, let no one judge you because of what you eat or drink or about the observance of annual holy days, New Moon Festivals, or weekly worship days.

King James 2000 Bible
Let no man therefore judge you in food, or in drink, or in respect of a holy day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

American King James Version
Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holy day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

American Standard Version
Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a feast day or a new moon or a sabbath day:

Douay-Rheims Bible
Let no man therefore judge you in meat or in drink, or in respect of a festival day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbaths,

Darby Bible Translation
Let none therefore judge you in meat or in drink, or in matter of feast, or new moon, or sabbaths,

English Revised Version
Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a feast day or a new moon or a sabbath day:

Webster's Bible Translation
Let no man therefore judge you in food, or in drink, or in respect of a holy-day, or or the new-moon, or of the sabbaths:

Weymouth New Testament
Therefore suffer no one to sit in judgement on you as to eating or drinking or with regard to a festival, a new moon or a sabbath.

World English Bible
Let no one therefore judge you in eating, or in drinking, or with respect to a feast day or a new moon or a Sabbath day,

Young's Literal Translation
Let no one, then, judge you in eating or in drinking, or in respect of a feast, or of a new moon, or of sabbaths,

Seems that it stands alone in adding the double negative.

Not is in there in the original Greek. It reads like this:

Μὴ οὖν τις ὑμᾶς κρινέτω ἐν βρώσει καὶ ἐν πόσει ἐν μέρει ἑορτῆς νεομηνίας σαββάτων·

Μὴ (transliteration ) = not

A direct word for word translation reads like this:

Not therefore anyone you let judge in food or in drink or in respect of feast or new moon or Sabbath.

As Barnes said:

"Let no man, therefore, judge you - compare Romans 14:10, note, 13, note. The word judge here is used in the sense of pronouncing a sentence. The meaning is, "since you have thus been delivered by Christ from the evils which surrounded you: since you have been freed from the observances of the law, let no one sit in judgment on you, or claim the right to decide for you in those matters. You are not responsible to man for your conduct, but to Christ; and no man has a right to impose that on you as a burden from which he has made you free."

Nice try but you are misquoting the scripture...

Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

the word "not" is not there. You are adding to the scripture.

What does this prove? I told you what I posted was from the NLT (New Living Translation) and you failed to post that scripture from the NLT.

Well it proves that some people will accept a certain translation if it fits their agenda even if the weeght of evidence says something quite different. You one of those?

The NLT was already posted.

You are not responsible to man for your conduct, but to Christ; and no man has a right to impose that on you as a burden from which he has made you free."

The surrounding verses around this passage can only lead one to a single conclusion which remains very obvious.

13When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, 14having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.
16Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day—17things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ. 18Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize by delighting in self-abasement and the worship of the angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, inflated without cause by his fleshly mind, 19and not holding fast to the head, from whom the entire body, being supplied and held together by the joints and ligaments, grows with a growth which is from God.

OK, then, since the Sabbath is the shadow of the rest that Christ brings to the earth for 1000 years, explain how doing away with it reveals the Millenium. Unless you don't believe in a Millenium and you don't believe this...

2Pe 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Rev 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

The six days of the work week are the shadow of 6000 years of man's work on the earth under the sway of Satan while the seventh day (the Sabbath) is the Millenium of peace and rest under the rule of Jesus Christ.

No, you claimed I inserted words to twist the scriptures. I never did that. I never added anything to scripture. I simply copied and pasted directly without modification. What I posted is word for word from the NLT.

Now if you want to accuse me of selecting a version which fits my view better, I admit I did that. I have posted Col 2:16 numerous times and in different translations. I know I posted it in the KJV, NASB and NIV and now the NLT. When I sit down and read the bible, I prefer reading the NLT because it is a breeze to read which flows. In my truck I keep a copy of the NLT and read that version when I eat out alone.

So there is no dishonesty here, as you accused me of doing.

Where did you get this info from? Can you please list some scriptures which prove this conclusion?

I've found that cult members often attack you personally when their ship starts to sink as a desperate means of gaining some sort of authority back.

Anyways, this is somewhat outside of the discussion but I'm going to point out that traditionally "a thousand years" constitutes the time that Satan is bound in the abyss, which is also the length of the millennium, the time between the two resurrections (Rev 20:2–7).

As for an exact thousand years, cult members usually don't realize that the vast majority of Biblical language scholars doubt that John intends to specify the length of time strictly literally. Read J. J. Davis, Biblical Numerology (Grand Rapids: Baker, 1968) or The Ancient Languages of Syria-Palestine and Arabia by Woodard as but two peer reviewed examples of Bible language scholars on ancient numerology to find out why.

The Bible’s main functions are historical, theological and literary. When numbers occur, in the original texts, they are always written out in words rather than represented by symbols though ancient Semitic writing systems included numerical symbols. Numbers are used conventionally, rhetorically, and symbolically in the Bible and to understand exactly what's being communicated one need know which form is being used where.

Modern cult false teachers, like Ellen G. White, weren't scholars but rather fairly ignorant plagiarizers with uber-active imaginations. Many of them didn't appear to know that numerology in ancient Semitic language was often used differently than we use numbers in English. "A thousand years," for example, can mean a thousand years but just as easily indicate "a large quantity" or "a very big number" with no intention to specify a literal thousand years. Same with words like "day" (e.g. yom).

Hyperbole is occasionally employed to indicate vastness of number. While certain contexts are clear in their intention to use a number symbolically, others are debated. Perhaps the most notorious example is Revelation 20:3 and 5, which speak of the thousand-year reign of Christ. Is this number being used in a conventional sense, in which case it would be a literal thousand-year period, or is it symbolic, indicating an extremely long period of time? This is at the root of the classic millenarian debate.

There is no magic formula to solve this question, but certain important principles can guide one’s exegetical conclusion. Perhaps the most important of these is to take into account the genre of literature of the passage. Poetry and apocalyptic use many different types of image. If a text is highly figurative in general, and Revelations IS... especially if other numbers are used figuratively in the text, then that would require the reader to give careful consideration to treating a number as symbolic.

:)

Millennialism (from millennium, Latin for "thousand years"), or chiliasm in Greek, is a belief held by some Christian denominations that there will be a Golden Age or Paradise on Earth in which "Christ will reign" for 1000 years prior to the final judgment and future eternal state (the "World to Come" of the New Heavens and New Earth). This belief is derived primarily from the Book of Revelation 20:1–6. Millennialism as such is a specific form of Millenarianism.

Among Christians who hold this belief, this is not the "end of the world", but rather the penultimate age, the age just prior to the end of Satan's worldwide system in anticipation of a New Heavens and a New Earth under Jehovah's (i.e., God's) kingdom reign (Rev. 21:1). Some believe that between the millennium proper and the end of the world there will be a brief period in which a final battle with Satan will take place. After this follows the Last Judgment.

Before Christianity, millennialism was first a doctrine of Zoroastrianism. It held that there were successive thousand-year periods, each of which will end in a cataclysm of heresy and destruction, until the final destruction of evil and of the spirit of evil by a triumphant king of peace at the end of the final millennial age (supposed by some to be the year 2000). "Then Saoshyant makes the creatures again pure, and the resurrection and future existence occur" (Zand-i Vohuman Yasht 3:62).

the seventh day (the Sabbath) is the Millenium of peace and rest under the rule of Jesus Christ.
well, since there's no future 1,000 years i reckon that doesn't work.
especially in the (not) future 1,000 years there is death; sin and rebellion.

Yes, I agree the Greeks used numbers in a symbolic sense. For example in greek they say "Tens of thousand of years" but mean forever. There is no greek word for forever, if I recall right.

I think John is a good guy. I just don't agree with his theology. I would not say Ellen WHite was ignorant. She was uneducated. Her brain injury was severe and she never got past the third grade. No doubt she continued to improve her literacy but still she lacked a formal education in theology. The same is true for Charles Russell who worked as a shoe salesman with no formal education and became convinced he alone knew the truth. Same is true for Joseph Smith. These people were smart, ambitious but substituted their own hubris for education on the bible.

Satan loves to use people like this.

the prussian union really wasn't lutheran...it was a state sponsored attempt at a lutheran-calvinist mashup for the sake of national unity...

Why even answer that man? He is a racist claiming that I should not be proud of my German roots. It is just hatred, unforgiveness, bitterness and for reasons only he can say. He already has two strikes against me and third means I will drop him in the bin. Life is too short to deal with hatred from a man who claims to be a Christian.

I will never understand how those statements work together.
i never really understood how the claim of virtual extermination by the nazis equated into Nakba and ethnic cleansing by Zionists just a few short years later.

The Fall, i reckon.

Those who they are saved by faith ignore that obedience is a fruit of true faith and love to God. Legalists claim that salvation is by their works. As for me: i don't support the one nor the other. I say you are saved by your faith, but your faith is made perfect by works. I am well aware that Christ is the end of the law for righteousness. But i won't ignore what Paul said in romans 6:15, or romans 3:31. Neither am i going to ignore a very clear statement of Jesus in luke 16:17. Again i'll make it plain. I DO believe in ephesians 2:8-9. And titus 3:4-6. But i won't ignore james 2:20, and matthew 5:7-19, and revelation 14:12 and revelation 22:14.
So it all comes down that everyone is judged according to his works. Even Jesus said so! "Behold, i come quickly, and my reward is with Me, to give every man according as his work shall be."- revelation 22:12.
So the only way i can try to make it plain is this:
-wicked men do not have good works.
- real true lovers of Jesus Christ will HAVE good works and will obey!
So in essence, every man is going to be judged by his works, not that his works are what saves him. But Jesus said so, that He's coming to judge you according to your works. How about the parable of the vine? In John 15? "Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit, is cast down, "and thrown the fires! Not that he gained heaven by his own efforts and fruits! No. Jesus said in that same parable of John 15:1-5, that "without Me, ye can do nothing." But still you can't ignore that you gotta have fruits! Obeying the Ten Commandments is impossible for you to do. But Jesus promises you, His power, and grace to help you! "Without Me, ye can do nothing." So please do not accuse me as if i am a legalist, or that i am a heretic. Revelation 22:14, is plain. Only those that do His commandments enter the city. Not that their efforts or works got them there. But they were TRUE worshippers of God, who because they love God, obey Him by His power! It is God who works in you to will and to DO of His good pleasure! He'll give you the power to DO of His good pleasure. He will no sooner give you all the power that you need to endure the trial and temptation rather than leave you alone fighting the temptations and trials. Think about it. God who loves us, and sent His Son, "shall He not, with His Son, freely give us all things?"- romans 8:32. Ofcourse He shall and WILL. Just ask Him for His help. I KNOW you are a sinner, unable to keep that Law, and i am just as weak as you, if not even MORE. But "when i am weak, then am i strong" because Jesus says "My strength is made perfect in weakness". 2 corinthians 12:9-10
So if you truly are a Christian, why won't you take that power from on high, and with His power, and with His Spirit, keep the Law?! After all, God never lies, and Has promised you "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: -Hebrews 8:10"
So love God and keep His commandments. "For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments, and (because of your love for His Son) His commandments are not griveous." - 1 john 5:3. Now you will LOVE to obey God and worship Him! You will love to do those things that will make please. "And whatsoever we ask, we receive of Him, because we keep His commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in His eyes."- 1 john 3:22
God bless you reader.

God bless you reader.
i like this:)
but let's remember what Jesus said:

John 6
Therefore they said to Him, "What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?" Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent."

John 6:57
Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me.

that's why this:

Romans 4:5
However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness.

does not contradict this:

1 Thessalonians 1:3
We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
