I was reflecting on what makes me feel content, peace, calm, and overall happy. What are somethings (physical or otherwise) that lift your spirits, and give you the warm fuzzies inside?

We just talked about this a bit at my Tuesday night Bible study: What stirs my spirit to love and worship God (a bit different than what you're asking, but it sort of goes with it). A lot of mine are nature-based.

- Sunsets, or clouds/the sky in general. I just ADORE it. My heart always sings when I see such awesome masterpieces by their Artist.
- Married elderly people who still tenderly care for each other
- Weather. The smell and sound of rain, lightning and rumbling thunder, the clouds rolling in.
- People (especially children) laughing and smiling. Smiling's my favorite.
- Music. Singing. Be it while sitting under a tree and journaling or blasting out my car speakers while driving
- Helping people; being there for them, being a friend to them; loving them

I could go on for a while. I don't know if this is the same, these next things are less spiritual and more "warm fuzzies".
- Kitten whiskers and soft kitten paws
- Wiggly dog noses
- Blankets
- Reading with a blanket on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate in the fall
- I've never dated, but I know that holding hands is gonna give me the fuzzy-wuzzy feelings. :p

Well, I suppose it depends on the nature of your question, but in the context of relationships, physical intimacy of varying nature tends to do that. (Hugs, kisses, cuddles, etc...)

Platonically, things like music, nature, spending time with famlly and friends, etc...

There are also occasional moments via media, books, etc, which can make you feel good about life, yourself, etc...

So, those are some of mine, if that's what you were meaning. ^^

Well, after accomplishing a work successfully, that I was assigned makes me feel content and happy. A thought of satisfaction brings you a strange kinda energy. You don't always need Physical things to keep you happy. Those are momentary things. Love plays a major part in keeping you happy. Knowing that the person whom you love, loves you back in the same way or even more than that. That feeling gives utmost satisfaction.

Listening to Kind of Blue at the end of a long day.
Eating almost anything my mother has cooked for me.
Singing Paul Baloche's Your Name.
An open-faced pot roast sandwich with two over easy eggs on top and extra gravy.
PENTAKILL!!! (Which like, NEVER happens except in bot games.)
Sliding the stick from fourth to fifth with a perfectly smooth transition...WITHOUT using the clutch. ^_^
The last few chapters of Job.
Just being with people from my church.

Sorry to double-post, but after reading Rachel's...perhaps I should flesh mine out a little more...

Nature:

Sunsets, Sunrises, Starry Nights & Moonlight, Rain, Clouds, Shade when it's hot, plants (especially trees), animals (especially canines), mountains, rivers, creeks, lakes, the sea, snow, leaves, dust glittering in beams of sunlight, the wind caressing my face and rustling my hair and clothes, smells, sounds, silence, and much much much more...

Music:

Listening, playing, creating, joining, starting, learning, changing, big group, small group, just me, jammin' out, head radio, and much much more...

...and a similar 'fleshing out' can be done for each of the other topics, and more!

...oh, and food. Food is good. ...and despite my constant tiredness from staying up to late...sleep is a wonderful thing!

...and slow-pace...I don't like always being busy and in a hurry...*sigh*

laying on a beach, eyes closed, and just listening to the ocean
driving with a really good CD playing
Saturday morning radio.
Saturday mornings, period.
seeing my parents happy or proud
hanging out with my siblings
talking to ornery old people
long baths
unexpected acts of kindness, giving and receiving
watching ballets, or live music
holding hands with someone special
laughing until my stomach cramps
coming home to a clean apartment after a long day, lighting candles, and curling up on the couch with my kindle

kind of blue is a miles davis album (I LOVE miles davis!)
It is THE Miles Davis album. While not necessarily his most innovative or groundbreaking work, it's probably the single most accessible jazz album on the planet. (No, Kenny G's Breathless is NOT a jazz album.) ANYONE can listen to KoB and 'get it,' even knowing absolutely nothing about jazz. There are literally millions of people who own this album, and don't own any other jazz music. And the crazy thing is that it's not a sellout album. The product isn't compromised or watered down to make it less intellectually challenging for the masses or for jazz novices. It is both the simplest, gentle-est, friendliest, easiest jazz and one of the most profound, challenging, scholarly jazz works...at the same time!!!

Yes, I am nerding on hardcore right now about jazz, but anyone here who's heard it (Hellooo, apparently, and CatHerder, I know for sure) will understand at least partly...because even someone who doesn't like jazz will read this and go, "Oh yeah, he's right. I don't know about that other stuff about it being deep, but he's right about it being easy to listen to." And then the people like me who've actually done serious scholarly work in the genre know that I'm not just blowing smoke, either.

Want proof?

After you've had a lousy day at work/school/whatever, and you get home, and you're grouchy...pour yourself a glass of your favoritest, most comforting drink (coffee, tea, wine, chocolate stout, whatever), turn the lights down low, and sit in a comfortable chair...and just listen to the last track...Flamenco Sketches...in the dark, just let the day melt into the music...

The last few chapters of Job.
YES. This. My favorite part of the Bible is Job 36-42. I read them often. How could I have forgotten that??

More:
- The smell of fall. Something about decaying leaves. I remember going down to a creek in South Dakota during the fall, and I think it was birch trees (which are my favorite) that made such as sweet smell. It was so distinct and unique. I wanted to bottle it up and take it home with me.
- Having my earphones in and singing and dancing like a foo'
- Inside jokes (though I try not to do these when others are around who don't get it, because I think that's a tad annoying. But I love just being able to say one phrase/word to another friend and just crack up)

arwen, listing these things make me happy. Thanks for making this thread. :) I need to write all these down and whenever I'm feeling down, or overwhelmed, etc., I can go to that list.

I'm not a fan of jazz, but that sounded pretty relaxing. I use to work in a casino restaurant and all they played was jazz, so whenever I hear it, it just reminds me of working there lol. I love big band/swing/old time radio music. Doris Day, The Andrew Sisters, etc. :)

My loves?

I'll begin with the Snap-On tool truck. Ladies, it's like discovering that there is a 'shoe truck' that shows up at work during your lunch hour.

Next up is a wooded trail, perfect for finding solitude in an increasingly fast-paced world.

Dirty hands. Hard work is something to be proud of.

What's around the bend? I gotta find out.

Paul Baloche is the worship leader at a church just down the road from me that I used to go to. Super neat guy. Super great song. Good call, my friend. ^__^
