Sitting in some of the grocery stores across America and else where are fods marked "Halal" which in arabic means "legal or permissible". The problem I have with this is that animals, must be facing towards Mecca as their throats are slit with a sharp knife. Then, at some point, a short Muslim prayer is spoken over the animal, "in the name of Allah".
Muslims defend this practice and claim it is not ritualistic sacrifice, but many disagree. Jews also slaughter their kosher animals do not point the animal in any direction or say any sort of pray over the animal. If this is an animal scarified to an idol or a false god, would you eat it?
