The release contains more than 40,000 hours of security footage from the Capitol during the infamous riot. However, Johnson did note that around 5% of the total footage is being censored in order to protect “sensitive security information related to the building architecture.”
Johnson’s decision comes as some conservative lawmakers in the House caucus have begun criticizing him for the passage of a bipartisan stopgap bill to avoid a government shutdown.

It’s amazing that in an alleged “free society,” which we are supposed to be but clearly are not, it takes nearly three years to have public video released to the public. Yet, here we are and Congress finally gets around to releasing 40,000 hours of January 6, 2021 footage. It’s a huge info dump that will overwhelm viewers but only solidifies the fact that every single January 6 political prisoner is just that, a political prisoner who never committed a crime.

More than 40,000 hours of Jan. 6 Capitol Police security video will be made public on a dedicated website starting immediately and ramping up in the coming months, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) announced on Nov. 17.
However, individual video clips released to media or other requesters will have the faces of identifiable individuals blurred, a senior congressional aide told The Epoch Times. That restriction drew immediate fire from some Jan. 6 criminal case defendants.
“So while we are significantly expanding the amount of clips that will be available and who can request them, we will be blurring faces with respect to individuals who are identifiable,” the source said.
“To restore America’s trust and faith in their government we must have transparency,” Mr. Johnson wrote on X.com. “This is another step towards keeping the promises I made when I was elected to be your Speaker.”
The Committee on House Administration’s Subcommittee on Oversight, chaired by Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.), has already posted 90 hours of Capitol security video in the online viewing room. The initial release includes footage previously provided to various media outlets.
“The goal of our investigation has been to provide the American people with transparency on what happened at the Capitol on January 6, 2021, and this includes all official video from that day,” Mr. Loudermilk said in a statement. “We will continue loading video footage as we conduct our investigation and continue to review footage.”

Slade Sohmer, 44, is accused of possessing and distributing hundreds of child abuse material, including images depicting the rape of a child who was around four years old.
The Otis, Massachusetts, resident was arrested on Friday at his home after police obtained a search warrant for his devices.
He was released on Monday on $100,000 bail after pleading not guilty to two counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of dissemination of child pornography.
The journalist was ordered to have no access to the internet, engage in location notifications with a parole officer and avoid contact with minors.
Investigators said in court documents they found footage showing boys as young as four being raped and forced to perform oral sex acts by adults.
The probe reportedly started after the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children reportedly informed the Massachusetts State Policy Cyber Crime Unit that someone had shared a suspicious video on Snapchat in September, 2022.
Police say they then traced the IP address to Sohmer's home.
