Build a filter in a bucket and let the water drip into another when h20 is clean make a "Dakota fire hole" and boil it.

Been drinking distilled water for over 10 years.

Rain water and distilled water are essentially the same.

If you are worried about loss of minerals, there are always vitamins.
There are a lot of doctors that agree with you. Also, I doubt the biggest loss is with minerals but rather electrolytes.

Also I could be wrong since the water goes into the stomach which has acid and then into the digestive system which has food. Plenty of things to dissolve. Still I think it is very true that spring water tastes better.

I certainly don't think that the occasional use of distilled water is unhealthy, but I would not use a still again. Filter, boil, or use an oxidizer.

Boiling works for biologicals, but not chemical pollutants. I do keep some water purification tabs, but I see those more as a measure to use if I'm on the move. When you settle in somewhere, other methods can be used to get quality water. Whether rain collection, a solar still, etc.

I did this about 30 years ago in Texas. Get a map of the rivers and creeks of the county your in. Look for a place where there are lakes that are spring fed and not fed by rivers or creeks... that's where I bought my land(5 stocked lakes that are spring fed) then they spill over and flow to the river.

GREAT advice, thank you!

There's probably a million failed lake communities in the US some have lakes that are fed by rivers others by springs. Too much pollution flowing down the creeks and rivers for me,lol... I'm sort of particular about things like catfish for instance or other fish I never eat below the blood line and I always take a knife and scrape backwards to remove the fat(purple looking stuff between the fillet and skin) that's where things like mercury are stored(they cant process it out).

The blood line is that blood vessel that runs right down the middle, right? Anyways, thanks for the info. A lot of this stuff we just aren't told or think about.

I guess with the fish you could bury the rest in your garden.

That's good advice with the deer too. One time I shot a deer when hunting with my dad and we waited a half hour to clean it in case it was still bleeding out (it dropped a fair ways away). It must have died right away though because when we went to field dress it, it had already started bloating.

If you dig a well milk will keep in a jar with a string tied around the lid and lowered into the well for about 3 o 4 days...

You should write a book on this stuff! :D
Since about 2011 I've been saying things here and there here on CC. I just from looking at things in the world thought the day would come and the things the old people knew would come in handy. As for advice for just in case,,, in that day when Walmart's no longer open and everyone's trying to figure out what to eat there's an vast amount of things that grow wild that most don't even know they could eat(clover, dandelions, ect.) and people will be walking over them and starving to death at the same time. After several years you could grow a garden but not at first because you would get robbed or worse daily. Get books and learn to identify "wild edible plants"...

One big mistake I have noticed by many who "prepare"
They expect to live and eat just as they did before trouble came.
If that is your goal, you will quickly die.
There are many reasons power grids may go down.
It is estimated that if a nation wide power grid failure lasted for 30 days, as many as half of the people in the US would be dead or near death.
When power grids go down, there is no power to pump water or gas or keep communications going.
There will be no place to buy food or water after the first day.
There will be violence in the streets as the strong and evil ones take from the weak.
Just how long could you and your kids survive if that happened?

One mistake I made was to think that just because you are using distilled water you would drink it straight. If you use it to make coffee, or tea, or lemonade, or soup then as far as I am concerned you don't need to be worried about it anymore. In fact I have always wondered if using distilled water to make coffee would make a better cup of coffee, I think it is worth looking into for someone who really cares.

There is no perfect system. Filters & disinfectants help with most chemicals & bacteria. Boiling will kill anything left living in the water so whatever chemicals may be left will have to be taken care of by having faith in Jesus.:)

I thought boiling works for chemicals as they usually have a lower boiling point but doesn't work for heavy metals however distillation will work for both

I think more than half would die off in the case of a prolonged power outage.

If you have a well pump, you could get water if you have something like a gas generator or solar to run the pump. But you'd better have a plan and supplies saved up so you don't have to go out for a while until things settled.

I can stay behind my locked gate 1290 days, maybe more.

How do you plan on distilling water? One method takes a lot of energy and time and the other doesn't yield very much and takes even more time.

And how does boiling remove chemicals? Perhaps it evaporates and ends up in your distilled water.

I am not planning on using a still, others on this thread were discussing it. I used to have a still before, you simply fill it with tap water and it will distill the water for you. Yes, without electricity it wouldn't work and if you don't have electricity you don't have tap water either.

Things are going to be bad which is why Revelation says that 1/4 of all people on earth will be killed.

Some are hoping to "ride that out" -- hey good luck. As for me my hope is in the Lord.
