I think people are afraid of flat earthers.
They are afraid of the unknown.
Fear strikes them and they fight back anyway they know how.
A common way is to make fun of someone so as to discredit what they believe.

People want to kill the unknown.
Again, it is fear and people want to kill what they fear.
The best way to kill a flat earther is to laugh at them, try to discredit them, and get people to agree with what they are doing.
Nothing here can be called Christian activity.
i wouldn't say out fear more like there's pretty good solid proof it isn't. But hey why not if the poster doesn't mind debating and people what too about flat earth or not then hey it can be worse around here at times.. Lol

maybe a useful tool to relieve some tension rather than throwing thy shall not this and that or your going here or there.

People are not afraid of flat earthers. A flat earth is not an unknown, it is well known that the earth is not flat, leaving nothing to fear.

Also, people have tried to respond with very well thought out and researched replies that refute the notion of a flat earth. They are disproving the flat earth theory quite thoroughly. That should be obvious to you I would think. At this point, it's not at all funny that someone is so delusional and so obsessed about doomsday theories and flat earth theories and all sorts of other theories they find from obscure internet videos, that they dismiss God almost entirely and try to convince believers that they are on their own and must build bunkers and store food because God will forsake them. I believe it is acceptable to push back against such a disturbed person who tries to lead others away from God and to follow some crackpot non-believer on the internet posting youtube videos.

Isn't that what moderators and administrators are for?
Isn't there a respectful chain of command here or is it a free for all?
Isn't it easier to ignore someone than to put them down and defend doing so?

And what Christian principles are you using to defend your actions?
Should we be debating this or joining together to do something about it?

I haven't made one comment about a flat earth in this thread.
I seem to be spending my time defending true Christianity.

Its not hurting anything the thread isn't against any rules, I mean there is a topic thread the admins set up for such things.

I'd imagine that any people coming to Christian Chat in search of meaning in their life will high-tail it the second they see what people on the conspiracy forum are posting. Essentially, the message is we are doomed because of secret societies and God cannot save us. We must hide in bunkers with guns and dried food. You can't blame visitors for wondering about the mental state of people here who obsess about conspiracies rather than trust God.

I believe it is up to administrators to do something to people that are causing problems.
Are you an administrator?
If not, maybe you should contact one of them instead of openly putting down a person's character.
There are many ways to handle people who do things wrong.
We should look for what God would tell us to do.

I doubt this forum is here so that people can say "nothing here can be called Christian activity" so why stay around?
If that were true, then why are you here?
Are you in charge of non-Christian activity?
I say if nothing here can be called Christian activity, then it's time we Christians took it back and fill it with Christian activity.

If you don't know how to do that, then start a new thread and ask for help.
I bet you will get it.
I was quoting you. If you look at the conditions of membership you will find that there is a list of things that are not tolerated by the administrators. Being plain foolish is not one of them, neither is being less than 100% Saint- like.
otherwise the site would close down. We all have a choice as to whether or not to remain members. We have no
choice as to who signs up as members.

(in re: what goes up must come down)

What about Voyager 1?

it will eventually pass near enough a gravity well to become infatuated with a new "down" :)

earth has no monopoly on "down" you know

Gravitation is a known fact or a law of nature, as much as that this iPad I am typing on is a solid or that birds fly. Attempts to explain its dynamics, like general relativity, loop quantum gravity, string theory etc. are theories. Gravity is modeled using something called the theory of relativity. Newton's laws of gravity which is WRONG and have been wrong for quite some time, the reason they still around is because they are accurate enough to be used for most everyday things ( that don't involve satellites and the like).

i mostly agree with all this; don't disagree enough on anything to be worth quibbling.

the fact is that gravity is real -- the only thing that is "unproven/inadequate theory" about it is fundamental physical explanations for why it works the way it does.

on topic, the current president of the flat earth society says that the disc-earth ((read: disc, not a circle. "circle" refers only to 2-dimensional objects)) is moving upward & that explains gravity.
. . . which is utterly false, and here's why:
gravity is not due to a velocity; it's an acceleration. you know how when you drive down the highway in a car - even at 90mph - you are not pressed into your seat? you experience no force? but you only do when you accelerate (change speed or direction). when you slam on the brakes or floor the accelerator pedal, or turn sharply. so the disc-earth explanation can only explain the constant force of gravity we all experience constantly by constant acceleration of 9.8 m/s/s

((some back-of-the-envelope math))
given that the earth has been here at least 6,000 years (with a nod to my YEC friends) experiencing the same constant force due to gravitational acceleration, and at the minimum case of an initial velocity of 0 m/s . .

v(t) = v(0) + a*t

v(6,000 yr) = (0) + (9.8 m/sec^2)*(6,000 yr)*(31,540,000 sec/yr)

v(6,000 yr) = 1,854,552,000,000 m/s

= 4,148,514,674,302.076 mph

some perspective:
the speed of light is about 670,600,000 mph

so according to disc-earth "theory" -- the earth is currently travelling at least 6,186.27 times the speed of light.

explain that please, Spherical?

Nothing here can be called Christian activity.

what about establishing the truth, and speaking out against lies?

that's what (mostly) everyone in the conspiracy forum thinks they are doing.

as Christians, we ought to be doing that gently, & rationally -- and since we ought to glorify God in all things we do, i believe we also should do our best to try to relate discussion even here to praising Him.
often, people try to do that by some weird interpretation of a single verse or part of a verse - which is misdirected & disgusting to me - or appealing to His coming judgement, which i accept as honoring Him, even if it predicates wild theories. at least in that case He is not forgotten, and if people are being kooks, they are being kooks for His sake in some way.

not that i am faithful in it, but i always think it better to find something to respect and honor in others than to judge in them. :)
i respect what your statement too -- i think i understand well why you make it.

The earth has never been proven to rotate.

The earth has never been proven to rotate.

read that post you quoted again, and this time read it.

i'm not talking about rotation -- i'm talking about the official flat-earth society's explanation for why there is gravity on the disc-earth you champion.

the official flat-earth explanation for gravity is that the earth is constantly accelerating upwards at 1g. a disc earth cannot explain gravity by the mass of the earth - which is the truth - so instead you have to tell another lie to try to account for it. there are a number of ways to prove this imagined acceleration is false, but one implication of it is that the earth is already moving right now more than 6,000 times faster than light, and getting faster and faster every second.

beside that -- since you'd understandably rather change the subject -- foucault's pendulum proves the earth is rotating.

but dude, every last thing about your obsession is a lie. it doesn't matter how many times you change the subject; every single so-called "proof" your idol tells you to post here is a falsehood.
we pray for your eyes to be opened, and for you to escape this deception.

Because, if the camera lens was help open long enough for the stars to register, the earth would be over exposed.

It is a composite image...

According to NASA, the picture
is actually a composite of images snapped by two
cameras while the orbiter whipped by at a speed of 3,480 miles per hour.
