Take a look at the shops that do this. Skulls, crossbones and lots of similar weird symbols and signs everywhere. Also the names are often weird. The appearance is mostly gloomy. That shows where it comes from.

I am convinced that the whole issue is a zeitgeisty (spirit of the age) fad. And for those in my opinion we should not follow "the world". Like, Romans 12,2.

And "Christianizing" it (with crosses or bible verses) doesn't make it any better. Our deeds should speak for him and not outward symbols.

As far as I've gotten to know the Lord over the years, I can't imagine that it pleases or honors him in any way when we do something like this.

This is an ineresting question, that I have not gotten a definite answerto.
As far as a spiritual reason....
Ephesians 5
Do not be full of wine but be full of the Holy Spirit.
This is part of a dissertation by Paul trying to sum up what the focus of a Christian life is to be about. It starts back in chapter 4.

And Tattoos are an earthy centered thing. Meaning your mind is focused on things that are of a earthly focus instead of a spiritual one. You want to show a tattoo to others. It's a thing you got.

I get it, your older friends are getting them. And they are "cool". (Word used in my youth). I think it is "based" today. Unsure.

Tattoos are cheap going on but super expensive coming off. Plus! They are permanent and most people I know don't like them after ten years. Wish they had something different.

However, they do make a huge variety of temporary Tattoos that look like the real thing....wear like the real thing...and it's difficult to tell the difference. You can actually get those now if you want. (No age restriction)
You do have to be careful about putting them on. No wrinkles or misplaced locations. They are going to be there for a long while. 3 weeks at a minimum.

And if you are planning on flashing some skin and for whatever reason need to distract away from your natural rugged good looks....they work great.
Google them up and youtube and ticTok them....see if what I'm saying is true. (It is)

Some people find they prefer temporary to permanent because they can change them often enough. To fit their moods and tastes which change with the decades.

but we already covered the for the dead thing. it does not mean anything about for the living.
My own pastor said the same.
There are two parts of that verse.. One to do with cutting and the next part to do with marking.. Tattoos are marks made on ones body..

no, not a single friend has one that I know of. if I was to get one, it would be a purely personal symbol. in three years+

Many Christians that get tattoos do so as an expression of their faith, or to utilize it as a conversation opener to share their faith with someone. Or, as said before, for personal reminders.
A good example of this is Brian Head Welch of Korn. He had scriptures tattooed on him that helped him during his early times after getting saved.
So if he was ever having a struggle he could simply look at the tattoos and be reminded of the scriptures that gave him strength.

You also may even have the opportunity to witness to the artist that's giving you the tattoo. Many of the artists will chat with you during the tattoo application. And it's not uncommon for them to ask why you're getting tattooed what you've chosen.
They are part of one of the many subcultures most Christians dismiss and avoid or talk poorly of, rather than find ways to reach them.

That's good to hear that you want to reach others with the gospel! 🙂👍
Here's a link where you can make an indelible imprint on your mind without violating the Bible about markings on the body.

Bible.

You can have any verse you want as a reminder on your phone you take with you. I'm old school and like to write verses on index cards.

For leading people to Christ, I found that of the evangelical churches, some that still go soul winning are Independent Fundamental Baptist. My pastor trained me and an evangelist. I've learned from others too and made some good friends reaching others with the gospel in our weekly soul winning program.

My dad had tattoos. My daughter in law just got another one (Jonah & the whale), I have plenty of friends and relatives that have some.

I don’t like them. Even the “tasteful” ones.

I don’t think it’s sin, but why mess with your beautiful body that God gave you?

That's great! That's a big church. Does your church have a Soul Winning / Visitation time each week?

Here's what I mean.

Basic Soul Winning Presentation <

The Lord sent His disciples out by twos. The way we did it was one did the talking while the other was the silent partner. He would be available to interrupt distractions, pray silently and if ready, take turns at the next door. Nursing homes are a good place to go too.

?? we are big on discipleship, if that is what you mean. at our youth group, we are using the continue> discipleship book.

30The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
Prov. 11

3And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
Daniel 12

>One to Many<

Most of the time a church will meet and go to different places like Nursing or assistanted living home, and people's houses knock on doors and share the gospel like the following. I'm not sure right now if I left a different link previously, but it's the same good news wherever we go. This is called Soul Winning, winning people to Christ and sharing everlasting life that was shared with us.
