Yes, I would like to own and operate a Retro movie theater to show old films. I would like it to be an experience, the patrons walk in and be transported back to circa 1944. I’d like ushers and usherettes to wear period uniforms, and show a Movietone newsreel and a cartoon before the feature. I’d like the inside to look like an old time movie palace and have a three sided marquis out front. I’ve actually done some research. The films are not that expensive to rent. The key is location- I’d love to have it near the beach to pick up tourist traffic when it is raining and at night. The best way retro movie theaters are able to survive is to serve food- not just popcorn. This makes it a dinner and a movie. I’m not talking about a 4 star menu, but hamburgers, pizza, etc.

Another thing that helps retro movie theaters going is gimmicks- sing alongs, costume contests, amateur talent night, etc.

My idea would be to show nothing past 1969, BUT I might bend it for crowd pleasers like Grease. People love that movie.

I just need the Do-Re-Mi to start. I’d need a lot of capital to begin, as I would bill this as an immersive experience, not just a movie.
You just described a place I would like to go !

I always wanted to try to go into a theater, but I'm not a fan of Operas. At the same time, I like retro movies, but you can just see them on TV.

So, if you are going to do it, good luck in this :D !

I would love to, I already have a name- The Bluebird Palladium. Chrome, Midnight blue plush carpets , Midnight blue usher and usherette uniforms. I’d like a soda fountain in the lobby with soda jerks, and it just feel like an experience. It would take a ton of money to make it looking like I’d want it to look- so I would need a venture capitalist who thinks the experience would be appealing. If the tickets are cheap, the money is in the food. It only costs a couple of hundred bucks to rent a film for a month, so even people who are not well heeled could come watch the movie and eat somewhere else, later.

I’d love to have it at the beach and get the tourist trade. It is a business idea for a thriving economy when people have play money to go do things. I know movie theaters are not doing well, now. That is why it would need to be an experience and bot the same old, same old that a patron could get in other theaters.

In our city, the historic theater shows old movies every summer. The tickets are cheap, and the venue is nice. The theater is mainly used for concerts, I would like one ONLY for old movies.

Her concession stand will offer Pepsi, popcorn and Ju-Ju-Be's. No gum under the seats either. Gonna watch some Looney Tunes.

Agreed. I'm trending towards Mountain Dew also. The show is about to start. Time to watch the coming attractions. This place is better than a drive-in. I'm digging the reclining seats also.

Just curious.

Not necessarily a current one. Even one you, once, had :) .

I'll start saying I wanted to be a veterinary, but then I changed idea, since I'm too sensible with medical conditions and I suffer of trypanophobia.

So, since I was ten, I want to be a cartoonist or a storyboarder/ cartoon characters designer.
Hope this doesn't sound silly.
A fear of pianos ?

Even if I'm not a citizen of your place, I'm looking forward :) .

Oh no, not mountain dew. Mountain Dew is proven to cause intellectual disabilities.

That explains it. No wonder my mind is fuzzy. Gonna make a New Year's resolution to cut back. Coke's good for you though, right?

I'm underweight so I will go with the Coke. Actually we have cans and cans of pop left over from our Christmas party the other day that we have to get rid of. Not much of a pop drinker but I do enjoy my coffee. Maybe this theater can have a Starbucks concession. It's obviously gonna be an upscale venue for the true movie connoisseur.

They didn't have starbucks in 1944.

The coffee is going to be the way God intended..... black and bitter.

If I were still a drinking man I would pour in a shot of Jack also. Always drink my coffee neat, no cream or sugar. Obtaining a liquor license for the theater may prove to be problematic but with God anything is possible.

All the theaters around here serve beer now. It's the only way I can make the movies my kids like, tolerable.

You made me think of something I always say when some around me tells me or mentions that they are getting old. I say, "older; never old!"

I am just an older kid! Whoopee cushions are fun. To this day, probably more than I should I still have the kids and grand kids "pull my finger" when that certain feeling arises....
This was but true, based on my on life.
I thought Jesus was stern, just like God.

I stopped going to church for many years. Before that I led youth work. It seemed to be successful.

Won't go into what happened with me.

Anyway every Sunday morning I didn't go my heart was attacked with guilt.

One morning I watched a version of Jesus of Nazareth.

There were a few scenes where Jesus and the disciples and they were walking beside the sea. Then they had a water fight and were laughing.

I was horrified. When I told my wife about this I said "Jesus laughed, they had water fights, how ridiculous is that?

She looked at me and said "Bill of course Jesus laughed and had fun, they would have laughed when one of them farted"

It never occurred to me that Jesus would laugh, have fun.
