Living on the edge of the country, I not only hear owls often at night, but I also sometimes get to see them. There's been a few times 2 barred owls have been really having a boisterous party right outside my window.
This is a great horned owl. They aren't as boisterous, but they are just as lovely...

I've had them and other variety in my bird sanctuary. I first noticed the boluses and rabbit fur in my yard.
I was hoping it was getting feral cats the next door neighbor raises.

Aren't those owls impressive?

Yes, and being able to see owls right from the yard is smashing. I've heard 3 different types of owls here, but the owls I mostly see are the barred owls. On walks in the evening I've see them come up from the woodsy areas to hunt.
Watching wildlife is peaceful, and I find it necessary to my well being.

Oh yeah! Except when they are perched on my roof or in the stand of trees around my house, they wake me up. 🥱
If I knew they were eating feral cats I'd be very content. Lol

Otherwise they are smashing. They have very distinct voices. Do you have binoculars to take with you?

I have some around here somewhere, but I need to get a better pair. The owls have been near enough that I didn't really need binoculars, but having them would be nice for other birds. I see Mississippi kites, kestrels, pileated woodpeckers, and many other birds.

I'm so thankful for birds. I sometimes think about how terrible it would be to wake up one day and there are no birds in the world. That would be the opposite of smashing!

Those are all beautiful.
My favorites are the big male Piliated Woodpeckers. They are huge and colorful. It used to remind me each year when it returned by knocking on the cherry tree in my back yard. I'd go out to watch it early AM as it would go from one side of the field to the other.
Then it would explore my woods for insects. Like the owls, they are awesome to watch in the yard, focused on their breakfast. Still they are wary and difficult to approach closely.

I love pileated woodpeckers. I hear one often in the mornings. One morning here recently, I stepped out to feed the birds and one was in the front yard. That's not the only time I've spotted it without leaving the yard.
Also, there is a pecan orchard about 2 miles from me. I was walking on the trail by there one day when I decided to stop and look off into the orchard. I was surprised when I seen several pileated woodpeckers. My heart swells when I see them, I feel like the Lord blessed me with their sighting. It's like receiving a gift, but a lot better.

YES! He does that as a special way to show His love for you. That's a rare sight. Only He could put them there for you to see, direct you without knowing and point your attention to them at the perfect time.

Because we are at the peak of redbud (our state tree) season in this area of Oklahoma, I thought I'd post this lovely pic of redbuds out at my favorite local place: Osage Hills State Park.

That looks like a lovely place to spent a day wandering around, to have a picnic and relax!

Yessss, I love picnicking!! Especially if it's in a wooded area with lots of birds and some little critters.

Oklahoma Storm Chaser David Gaede captured this beautiful view of the aurora borealis over Oolagah Lake a week ago. That's a lake I've visited many times and have also picnicked there. We don't get much of an aurora borealis down this far, so this is about as good as it gets in my area...

We supposedly had fox fires this week, tho I didn't see them myself, eventho I had a night shift week.

Have you seen them in person? Do you see them in colour?
In our area it isn't usually that vivid either, but I think if it is just my eyes that can't seem to see them in that much of a colour anymore.

Yes, definately seeing the wildlife around brings the picnic to an another level! :D

Unfortunately, I have not seen the phenomenon in person. It's rarely visible in Oklahoma and I never seem to be in a good spot to see it. I think it would be smashing though!

I've even picnicked at night. Thinking about it, it'd be neat to picnic at night with a view of the fox fires!

The redbuds continue to come alive.

Also, the grass is coming alive. I'll be cutting the grass soon!
