I get sad when pefectly capable people think it is their right to get everything for free, adapted to them and get paid by the authorities doing nothing.
Whenever society creates a system where it's possible to literally be doing nothing and yet get paid for your "effort", people will adapt.

I don't know which one of "you" is the most scary. The angry one or the maniac one? I should never have stared so long time into that pic.... hopefully it will not give me nightmares.

I am sure you are a nice bloke, though. Just don't make me stare at you ;-)

Lært hjelpesløshet. Taught helplessness. I have seen it in the disability community before, and that was one of the reasons why can't work in that movement any longer. But a person with disabilities has anyway more reason to become like that. Not a 30 year old healthy, clever guy whos only disabilites are his vanity and pride. Anyway. He got dismissed from the course due to threatening and bad behaviour. So on Monday we'll have Kumbaya my Lord and I will give out stickers for good effort to everyone. Feels abit strange to say that. Some are older than me.....

Okay - so tell me the truth -- how would you describe the reaction you experience when you look at my current avatar --- 'amusing', 'creepy', 'funny', 'scary', or what...?

( I am just wondering if it is coming across as I intended. )
It looks like you're acutely aware that your resting face is intimidating to some, so you smiled :D The second face was like, "Oh, I'm in the public and being looked at, lemme fix my face!" xD

I'm in Houston. I've gotten some PMs here asking if I was okay. I just wanted y'all to know that I am doing fine. I feel better personally but I'm in pain for all the people here. I came with my church for the long weekend. We are making hots meals, donated things the church helped gather, and going around praying for people. There are so many people out of their homes but there are a lot of organizations here helping. God is good.

Gary,

You're a good-looking guy, so I hope you won't be offended because my feedback is about the expressions and moving pictures, and not the image of you itself.

Your avatar reminds me of two things:

1. The "wide-eyed" expression, to me looks exactly like Dustin Diamond ("Screech") from "Saved By The Bell."

And,

2. With it being close to Halloween, the "shifting expressions" remind me of those Halloween "old-fashioned" "portraits" of people from the 1900's... but as you walk around the picture, it "shifts" into a version of themselves that looks like a bat out of hell, usually with red eyes, fangs, and claws.

Whenever I see your picture "shift", I'm expecting to see something like that--only because of the flashing between the pictures, not because of the picture of you itself.

Just my own little 2 cents, and no worries.

A lot of people say MY avatar is creepy, but I rather like it, so I've chosen to keep it for a while.

One day I decided to see if I could come up with a good-enough picture to use as an avatar. I placed a chair next to a wall, with my digital camera on a tripod out in front of it. I set the camera in auto-shoot mode to take 10 shots at a 1 second interval. I took 4 or 5 sets of 10 pictures. For one of the sets, I decided to make faces at the camera. That is where the "funny" shot came from. The other shot ( the main one ) is from a different set of 10 pictures - where I was trying too hard to get a good picture. ( I was doing that for all of them, really. )

Those two shots were the "best" two shots of the whole bunch. :rolleyes:

So -- I thought I would put them together in a GIF -- just for amusement.

I hope everyone finds it amusing...

Gary. I am sorry. I came out too harsh. I hate pics....and hate even more to be taken picures of. Just look at my stupid avatar. I look all sheepish. And it was funny. I had to check your avatar twice to see if I had imagined it all. Anyway. I am sorry

My mom is headed down there in the next couple of days with Samaritan's Purse. She's seventy seven years old and sometimes I think she has more energy than I do since she's always in the middle of the back breaking work in any disaster she heads off to.

Ever been texting and falling asleep at the same time? All of a sudden you kind of wake up and make a face like Gary's avatar and see your text that says "What tunftucs b7fxdghnjvn vfd t6b..."?

I figured you were kidding around. No offense taken. No harm done.

No need to be sorry.

I did start to ask you if I really looked angry in that one shot. I was quite certain that 'maniac' was just a joke.

I expected that some people would make jokes, etc. anyway.

Don't worry about it.

:)

I've earned a rest. The complete draft of my first journal article has been submitted for initial review, I've completed all the online "Human Subjects Research Training" that I was asked to complete, and all my chores are caught up. It's time for a break. I'm going to go sear off a couple lamb shanks for tomorrow night's supper and then I'm going to sit on my duff and do a whole lot of nothing. It's going to be awesome.

Btw...I know this is unrelated, but...did you get inspiration from me for your new signature? :/

No. My new signature is just a reminder that a person's emotional response is their CHOICE.

It's been a long journey, but I have been blessed. Walking with Jesus I have no regrets. He is so good to me I must confess. The way has been long but I'm blessed.

Gary,

You're a good-looking guy, { "That is nice to hear --- thank you, dear..." :D ( I don't hear that very often. ) } so I hope you won't be offended { Don't be silly. Of course not. :) } because my feedback is about the expressions and moving pictures, and not the image of you itself.

Your avatar reminds me of two things:

1. The "wide-eyed" expression, to me looks exactly like Dustin Diamond ("Screech") from "Saved By The Bell."

{ Well, that was kinda-sorta the expression I was going for at the time, I think. }

And,

2. With it being close to Halloween, the "shifting expressions" remind me of those Halloween "old-fashioned" "portraits" of people from the 1900's... but as you walk around the picture, it "shifts" into a version of themselves that looks like a bat out of hell, usually with red eyes, fangs, and claws. { Yeah - I remember those. The early holographic "experiments"... :rolleyes: ;) ( :p ) }

Whenever I see your picture "shift", I'm expecting to see something like that--only because of the flashing between the pictures, not because of the picture of you itself.

Just my own little 2 cents, and no worries.

A lot of people say MY avatar is creepy, { -:eek:-:eek:-:eek:- ( Nooo, I'm just kidding. ) } but I rather like it, so I've chosen to keep it for a while. { Yes, I recall that you have displayed it as your avatar since October last year. }
I'm just trying to show a little bit of the "silly side" of me...

People on here sometimes seem to think that I am nothing-but-serious-all-the-time. This is, in part, an effort to allay that notion...
