Pretty pleased with how things went on latest glass project (no pics yet, sorry! It's a secret. shh!). I had tack-soldered things in place a few days ago, but a gap was bigger than I wanted it to be and was really bugging me, so I melted out the solder to remove the piece and re-cut it. It didn't take too long and the result was a biiiiiig improvement!

There are a bunch of little things that I would do differently (and this is my take on a fairly classic design, so I'm gonna keep it), but I think I have found the balance between doing things mediocre and being a perfectionist.

One of my favorite expressions is a Shaker saying "Do your work as if you had a thousand years to live and as if you are going to die tomorrow". Your "correction" on a bad piece made me think of a guy I used to work for. His name was Lloyd and he was what I thought of as a perfect boss. If you ever had a question about work or whatever, here's what he'd do: He'd acknowledge that you needed him and walk in your direction and then he'd stop along the way at another guy and point at something and the other guy would eventually nod, then he'd stop a second and do the nodding himself and shoot an OK sign, and then make it up to you, put his arm around your shoulder and bend over as if what you were asking was the most important thing in his life. The guy was constantly on the move and engaged and the first time he saw me doing something not quite right (this was a cabinet shop) he'd say "if you leave that thing now you'll leave two of em' tomorrow".

Of course, none of this didn't stop his subordinates from "thanking the good Lloyd" every time paychecks were delivered.

I got pretty frustrated with myself this weekend because I ate things I shouldn't have, and it had me in so much pain on Sunday and Monday. I'm better today, and my energy hasn't died down, though my sleeping patterns are still SUPER off. I'll give that another week. Actually...wow....next week. I leave for my trip. WHAT...how did this...aaaah it sprang up on me so fast.

I've been closely following the story of the NAACP leader (Rachel Dolezal) who has persistently claimed to be biracial, even claiming a black man as her father, but is actually white and was outed by her very white parents.

{SNIP}

The bottom line is, I'm sure this woman was looking for the same thing--a place to feel as if she fully fit in. I feel a little heartbroken for her, though I think what she did (lying about her race and misrepresenting herself) was totally wrong. I'm definitely putting her on my prayer list. I hope she finds her place.

I might not be able to fully define who or what I am, but, I'm thankful that God has kept me truthful about it.
This thought occurred to me this morning as I was cooking breakfast/doing dishes.

How is it even remotely sensible that as a society, we praise and fawn over a person who defies his/her biological state (Jenner: "Oh, she's so braaaaave!" *clap clap clap*) and yet so quickly have the hugest issue with another person who defies their biological state (Dolezal: "How DARE she!" *finger wag*)????

It's so true. It's because there's no link in people's minds between race and sexuality.

In her case though, I think maybe she took advantage of her claimed biological state - that's the difference. In other words, had Jenner won the women's marathon posing as a woman, I think there would be outrage. You remember that tennis player that had a sex change to a woman and won all these tennis matches? In the same vein, Dolezal was leading an organization where her ethnicity as a woman and a minority would play a significant role in the job she held. I felt like that was more the outrage than her pretending to be black.

Yeah, you're probably right.

Although the other scenario is starting to show up. Transgender women competing in women's athletics and stuff. I seem to recall some hubbub about that at the last summer Olympics, I think.

@wwjd - 12 felt soooo long. Maybe that's because it actually was. :p But it was cool still. If you ever have the time, give one of the older ones a whirl! 11 and on had a more "mature" feel, while 10 and prior had a more eclectic charm.

@Lynx - It's pretty likely they will. I mean, it's one thing if they alter the script slightly (the original localization was kind of spotty and made for some funny translation), but beyond that I'm with you in hoping they stay true to it.

What a boring day today.

I'm gonna go grocery shopping. ...Once I eat. Grocery shopping on an empty stomach usually makes me want to buy things that aren't good for me (like really sugary things rather than things I NEED).
