I never thought grocery shopping would make me tired to the point I'd nap two hours.

This....is going to take a lot of patience.

I think the mayonaise is probably the culprit here. With brown rice and turkey, gravy probably would've tasted better. :)

I bet it was rather bland. Brown rice, tomato, onion... Add some artichoke hearts or olives, oil and vinegar dressing, Italian seasoning and maybe some parm and whatever fresh veg... You could have a nice Italian salad with rice for the pasta.

Would that I were there. I could have rescued it. I have a knack for taking stuff other people have messed up in the kitchen and turning it into something halfway decent.

Hmm... seems like an idea for a thread just wandered through my brain in search of my finger controls so it could flow out.

aimee:

i'd forgo the ginger ale and buy a some actual ginger chews. my favorite are the reed's ginger candy in peanut flavor. when i did a search for ginger candy, i found many options, including trader joe's options and others. so i'd go with what you have available to you or buy some online. my health food store sells the reeds ginger candy in bulk and i usually have a small bag of them available when i have my occasional bouts of nausea. they have more actual ginger in them, and in one tiny chew you can get a lot more of the ginger than probably quarts of ginger ale (unless you're buying the spendy health food quality ginger ale. plus they taste good and give me some sugar when i'm feeling icky and lose my appetite.

also, you can easily mix your own version of pedialyte. since you have migraines from time to time, i'd just buy something that will allow you to make just about any beverage a trace mineral (electrolyte) replacement liquid.

i keep concentrace trace mineral supplement at home for such things, plus i take a couple drops a day, usually as a supplement of the vital trace minerals when i'm feeling kind of depleted. it's pretty easy and cheap when you compare it to almost any pre-made liquid replacement fluid. also, don't pick the low-sodium choice in your case, as sodium definitely plays an important role in rehydration and cellular fluid balance, as i'm sure you know. : D

if you need more ideas, feel free to hit me up. i have more suggestions for you if you need them. : )

p.s. coconut is also a great electrolyte replacement (as earlier suggested). however, a lot of testing has done to show that only the higher quality coconut waters have the electrolytes in concentrations that are helpful. the cheaper ones aren't delivering close to what you're looking for.

whoa whoa whoa. kim, did someone steal your cookies and this is why you're calling us heathens? :(

ok ok. i stole the cookies. i'm sorry.

:p
See what happens when you steal my cookies?

I suddenly turn into a judgmental, self-righteous nut who knows better than everyone else and isn't afraid to let people know it.

Which makes me wonder... Maybe we just need to march into Bible Discussion... and hand out cookies...

Don't bother. They would analyze the cookies, berate you for defiling God's temple with such poison, denounce the cookies as not kosher, start an argument about dietary laws and whether "kosher" should be relevant and tell you you're not really a christian because you didn't bring pie.

It's nice to see God change some attitudes.

The members of the praise band at church are disgruntled with the guy who is supposed to be running things. Part of the problem is that he is somewhat limited musically and is in denial about it, part is that his musical tastes have him select songs that aren't really praise band stuff (again, this may be due to his limitations with the guitar), and some of it may be apathy - or there could be a number of other reasons. If I made a change or suggestion in the past, it was never met with much favor on his part. Because I was new and he seemed to be in charge, I have tried to be respectful about introducing any changes.

Flash forward to today after working with this church group a year. One of the chief complaints among the singers in the band is "We always do all the verses the same way." Last week, I made vocal harmonies to the offering song and assigned everyone parts. They had been reluctant to do anything like this before, saying they didn't read music and just harmonized on their own. I explained to them that their harmonies didn't always work with the chords I played on the piano or what the guitarist was playing, and that I could help individuals after rehearsal if needed. After rehearsing a bit, they saw that the harmonies were quite easy and there was some buy-in. I even had them do different stuff each verse: two female parts on the first verse, male solo on second, and all three parts on third verse, with all parts on the choruses between verses as well.

When they sang the offering song on Sunday, the harmonies sounded great! At rehearsal this week, things were a lot more positive and energetic! It was really fun to see. :D Hopefully, this excitement and attitude will continue.

In other news - yesterday, I let a very friendly horse explore my face and she licked my forehead.

Attention all health food (or just people with an opinion) people! I have a question.

When I have a migraine sometimes I'm down for days. I get dehydrated, my glucose numbers go nuts, I can't eat properly, I'm incapacitated so I can't inject insulin, it's a mess. My doctor is aware of all this, and I've gone to the hospital once before. I've had a good couple of months, but this week has been really rough. When I'm down I live off ginger ale, which I know isn't the best, but it has calories and sugar. However, I bought some Gatorade at the store today. Was that smart? Is there a better option?

I can have sugar even though I inject. I take both pills and insulin; I'm technically a type 2. Actually, I take more pills than insulin. I changed my dosing. I should inform my doctor.

Anyway! What's your opinion, healthy people?
My opinions:

1) I'm glad for automatic spell check that corrects me when I misspell opinion.

2) I found a recipe online for homemade "gatorade": 1/4 cup lime (or lemon) juice and 1/2 tsp of salt in 1 quart of water (you can add sweetener to taste; the recipe called for the equivalent of 4 tsp sugar). I probably drink a gallon a week of this stuff during these hot humid summers.

3) If you haven't heard of Dr. Jason Fung, I'd recommend checking out his website. He does a lot of work with dietary treatment of diabetes and the website has a lot of information about his methods and theories ( including that most common ways of treating diabetes are flat out wrong and only making things worse) and some testimonies from his patients.
