ummm....would it make you feel better if I reminded you that there are a whole bunch of deadly diseases out there that you could get? or an aneurism, which could happen during your sleeptime? just trying to cheer you up here. :p

...then there's always reading God's Word and rediscovering how precious life is.

Not only what Catherder said, but the odds are with you on the nutso thing. Beyond all that though is something else that you said which I thought was quite profound and worth repeating. You said "....knowing my luck if I did it, it would result in a trip to hell." and that represents a very powerful awareness - better known as a "fear of God". I think God-fearing is largely misconstrued by a lot of people, but in essence, what you have said is that you are afraid of offending God. I'm not so sure it's so much a question of whether you are afraid of the wrath of God, (I think you could accept that as a due course) but rather you would be afraid of hurting God much like you would hate hurting someone you love. That's the actual fear of God - the fear of hurting the One you love. Much like the Kingdom of God we are promised here on earth is the hell on earth one feels by offending our God who loves us in return. So by your statement, I can see you have a profound understanding of Grace - mercy given us by our Lord God of Israel.

As much as I'd like to find the good in others, I can't help but end up becoming annoyed with them. I feel like I've encountered too many fake people, or I mistaken happiness with fakes because I'm that sad of a human being. Two way street as to why I'm a loner, really.

I've noticed that my eyes tend to change color. They're naturally brown, but when crying at one point I noticed while they're all red that the eyes itself turned to a more greenish color. Does anyone else get anything like that?

I've never heard of that happening to someone's eyes, but I think its pretty awesome. And yes, I think I know what you mean about the fake people.

My little brother asked me today why I believe what I believe, why I kept up with the Christian faith, after leaving home, what I've really gotten out of being baptized.

I think he's been struggling a lot lately...fairly newly married (well, two years...), just bought a house, dislikes his job. I think he's under a lot of self-induced pressure, trying to be a good husband and give his (high-maintenance) wife everything she wants (don't get me wrong, she's a sweet girl, just accustomed to a kind of ritzy life style). Anyway, he's never been particularly religious or anything like that (none of us were/are, really), but he did tell me once that he definitely believes in God, he's just not sure about "the rest" (which I took to mean Jesus being our Savior, given the rest of the conversation we were having, which was mainly about baptism).

I think he's looking for a lifeline, something to grab onto before he's in over his head.

I didn't really know how to respond to his question, in a way he'd really "get". We grew up going to church with our grandparents, and at home, our mom sometimes talked about her faith and how she could see God taking care of us (things like unexpected money in the mail when she didn't know how we were going to eat, her belief in angels, that kind of thing). But I think it meant different things for each of us...for me, I think I've known since I was really little that it's the Truth, that God sent His Son to die for our sins, and that if we accept Him, we're saved. In my mind and heart, it's never been something I've had any doubt about. For my brother, I think he felt that "religion" was being forced on us- he went to church because Mom said we had to, but somehow it never really "clicked" for him.

I still haven't responded to his question (he asked me via Facebook). I'm afraid to, I think, because I have such a hard time explaining myself, and I don't want to come across as silly or like I don't know what I'm talking about. Either of those things would push my brother away...he wouldn't put any stock into what I'd said.

It's so rare that anyone comes to me about this type of thing...and more rare for it to be a family member. This is hugely important and I'm so worried I'm going to screw it up.

Misscris, I will pray that God gives you the right words. In my experience, He always does when we are speaking to someone who wants to know more about Him.

My eyes are dark brown and never change color. I always wished I had hazel eyes like my mother, but nope! I've gotten used to these eyes though. They see quite well, which is nice. :)

That's always a scary question Cris. It's a REAL question, you know? Like... the answer is important. Sounds like God is doing something with your brother (and you!). I'm praying about this! Just share your own testimony. Your own view of what God has done for you, that lifeline you can hold onto, that infinite grace and faithfulness he has for his children. You'll do great, because God will be working through you in whatever you say. :)

My eyes can't make up their mind. They're brown around the pupil but blue by the time you get to the edge of the iris, does that count?
