This is more true than most people know...

Or take a seat on a bench at a mall. You don't have to try to start conversations there. They just start.
Sitting on a bench at the mall will start a conversation? Really?? I've sat in the mall numerous times, people just walk on by lol. Maybe it depends what state you live in?

Go to cafés, churches, fairs... i don't make friends my age but that works. I even made a friend at the airport lol
wow cool --- i've gone to starbucks before to work on my ebay account and stayed there for 4-5 hrs the 1 day, no one batted an eye but, maybe bc i was working --- i don't know --- i can look up different churches again --- i used to go to this one church small group, I knew 1 guy who was the leader of the group. I tried very hard to fit in but, what they did was separate the guys from the girls. I Always have a hard time clicking w/ girls. My first reaction of how this group was (girls group that is), they went around the room, introducing ourselves and stating 3 things we enjoyed doing. When each of the girls were talking, the rest of them were commenting on what they said so i was getting excited. They got to me, and I stated 3 of my favorite things to do and the girls leader said, oh that's nice and they moved right on -- felt like such a letdown. After the group was over, each of the girls went to their friends and were talking. I was left out in the cold and each week was the same. It was a terrible feeling.

Afterwards when the guys joined us, my friend, the guy leader, introduced me to a few guys and some of them, I did hit it off but other times, nothing but, the ones I did get along w/, made me feel great, However, after a few weeks of going there, talking to the guys, I tried asking 3 of them if they wanted to hang out and do something one of the days. All 3 guys gave me an excuse as to why they couldn't hang out w/ me. Another terrible letdown. They only wanted to talk at the group. Not hang out outside of the group. I don't get it.

It is but it also has a friends feature! Maybe they evolved over the years? I don't know. Just installed it for the first time.

On a different note, Maniastar I did find the perfect app for you!
http://meetmydogapp.com/ A locationbased app that helps you find other friends with dogs!
cool --- i can try that --- though, i need to be careful as my dog takes a long time to warm up to other dogs --- she'll get along better w/ the dogs IF they are calm.

Im like you..been off n on dating sites..thought bout meet up etc..tend o have more male friends than female but most are married or out of the area..im not a big joiner or have a lot of money to do a wine n dine group etc...so..ive prayed through the years that God would bring people in my life for friendships etc.. I started a new church 3 weeks ago..thier fall small groups start on the 22nd so im hopeful to get to know people that way.

Btw..goung on dating sites to e friends never works..lol
I gotcha. Yes, I'm the same. I mostly have male acquaintences and friends. It's the way I like it

Good luck w/ your new church. I hope everything works out well for you and you are able to integrate yourself and make new friends.

And, yes, I just realized recently that you can't just be friends w/ guys on these dating sites. It usually turns into something else

FB chatter box? Where can I find that? I've never seen that on my account I don't think.

I do have a dog but I cannot take her to a dog park as she's afraid of other dogs. I do bring her to parks though and car shows and have met a lot of nice people that way but most of the people I meet at the car shows/parks are people much older then me (i'm not discriminating), I love to talk to any and all people. Just am looking to make more friends around/closer to my age and possibly single as it's hard to be friends w/ people who are dating and/or married.
To see if you have a Chatterbox on Facebook for your community you probably type it in the search box on FB. Ours is called AV Chatterbox. So try entering whatever city your in followed by Chatterbox.
IE: Victoria Chatterbox, Auburn Chatterbox... etc. :)

I found that when someone asks for help, sometimes it makes opportunities to make friends or just contacts

My mustang is a few years older, and a resto job.

I've been using online dating sites to make friends w/ people. I'm not yet ready to go on a date and try to find another relationship but, what i've found is that a lot of guys now think I'm pretty and want to be w/ me. Granted, this is how dating sites are but, I don't know how else to find people my age. I've had 3 good conversations w/ guys on the site and they were all around my age. 2 of the guys are now friends, 1 in particular. This 1 knows I'm not ready to date. But, what other avenues can I use to find people (guys) within my age range to be friends w/?

I know of meetup.com --- I'm not a huge fan of going somewhere by myself because I have a tough time integrating myself with people i don't know.
I go to a car show every thursday night but, all the people there are 50+ years old. I know and get along w/ most of them but that's thanks to my dog. She really helps me to talk to people.
Why are you not ready to go on a date? Go ahead and do it, it's no big deal and you might actually enjoy being with the guy.

I don't feel ready to date anyone right now w/ everything going on w/ my ex. A lot of stuff to work through. I actually shared a lot of that w/ this new guy I met on an online site. He understands. I did go out w/ him on Saturday night and it was a great night. We do get along very very well. We talk throughout the day via text. Some of the best conversations I've had lately have been w/ this guy. I met him about a month and a half ago, and we text every single day, haven't missed a day yet. It's good. I guess, I'm just afraid of a few things. I'm not afraid of this new guy, but I'm afraid of vulnerabilities and not trusting. It's just hard right now.

If you're busy working on something on a computer nobody is going to interrupt you. Same with playing on your phone or reading a book. People have an automatic "OCCUPIED: Do not disturb" flag over their heads when they are absorbed in something. Bugging you when you're working on something would be just plain rude.

Go to Starbucks, get a cup of coffee and drink it slowly while you sit and listen to conversations around you. Get a table or booth with a good view of outside so you won't have to stare at the wall. Project an air of "I am relaxing, unwinding and just plain resting and doing nothing at all for a bit." If someone talks to you, great. If nothing happens, you had a good break from the daily grind. (Get it, coffee, grounds, daily grind... sorry, ignore my bad jokes.)

I ask the same question ...I believe that you just leave it in Gods hands dig into the word with obedience and he will make it right in due time, in his time I tell myself to go about my normal biss. attend church read the word establish trust and faith and a relationship with the Lord....and he will deliver...as a Christian set standards that are based on the word so "you" yourself will stay on track while the Lord does his work.

lol it's ok. I get it. That's a good idea. I'm often glued to my phone. Whenever I go anywhere, i automatically take my phone out. It's a huge struggle to keep it in my pocket, especially when i'm sitting down not doing anything. I like that idea. I will have to try that at some point when i'm more free.

Thanks.

This guy that I've been friends with for the last 2 months, he and I actually had a talk about dating about a week ago. He said, he's realized that where he is in his life, he's truly not ready to date right now and he said, he can definitely tell i'm not ready either and yes, that is extremely true. I am not ready to date anyone yet. We are on the same page, however, I do highly enjoy his company.

The parent company of Old Country Buffet and Hometown Buffet went bankrupt in 2008 and closed a bunch of locations. Then in 2016 the company was sold and the new owners closed even more locations.
So THAT'S what happened to the Hometown buffet here that closed 2 years ago. A Golden Corral took it's place but it's horrible.
