wasnt Cheers kinda the same thing, except set in a bar instead of a coffee shop. I only remember the theme song and Kirstie Alley in Cheers.

I have wondered what a sitcom set in a retirement village would be like, not Golden Girls but possibly far more dramatic, as it would be also like a medical drama. as well.

Tales of the City was actually a lot like Friends but set in San Francisco amongst all the queer folk. The Rachel type character was Mary Ann Singleton, and instead of lesbians marrying each other, the Tales lesbian married gay men to look straight. ?! It was kinda like Friends in reverse.

I mean it was all basically drama about relationships anyway.

There is soap called Shortland street and its been running over 30 years now and never a week goes by without some character in kiss off with another. I cant believe my mum still watches it. Though there was a tme when it was what everyone watched and it was good, before everyone just slept with each other. If you got a part on the show, then your character would eventually end up in bed with every other character before long unless they killed you off.

does anyone remember a show called Party of Five and it was about five siblings, their parents had died suddenly and there was nobody looking after them (no grandparents, no aunties, no uncles...not even social workers lol)

or Lost. In that one, nobody knew each other and they were just lost on a mysterious island after a plane crash. It was never explained how they got found or anything and for several episodes nobody had any clue what to do. aparently it was the greatest tv show ever made or something.....

or in the days before youtube, there was this tv show called...americas funniest home videos. In it people would send in their embarassing video clips and they would do voice overs of people doing stupid things.

Candid camera was also one of those shows that people didnt know they were being filmed. Well now its an everyday thing, just look up in any street corner or smile at someone pointing a phone at you. That drone in the sky? . Possibly filming you right now.

anyway I guess people watching is the most favourite past time of all. God does it continually but even He must sometimes think I am so bored of this, those humans just keep doing the same thing over and over, they are ruining the show! Seen it all before!

Phoebe has a stalker but really he is stalking her twin sister so she tries to get him to give up and stalk her instead.

I didnt know how common restraining orders were till several women told me they had them against their exes. I remember when I was in my twenties telling a boy can you just not have sex. I mean is it actually possible for you to not think about it or doing it with a girl. And he was like what?!

ok the one with the flashbacks was weird, Central perk used to be a bar, with a pool table and Chandler had a goatee.

I remember the cafe near the library was which was like a central perk wannabe but cafes never really took off here. For one thing workers breaks were never long enough to hang out at cafes and cabinet food was very expensive. (and often it was just frozen food that got microwaved!)
The only people that could afford to go to fancy cafes reguarly were either retired people or they were the rich list people. If people ever did get coffee, they usually got it from mcdonalds in a takeaway cup or the petrol station.

Though Friends did a lot for cafe or coffee culture...I just never got into coffee. I was more of a tea person. If someone asked if they wanted to have coffee with me Id be like no I dont like coffee. I always drank chocolate...because I can have tea at home and didnt think $4 a cup was worth it.

some of my friends had coffee cards though and would drag me to places so they could get the free coffee after theyd bought about 9 of them. I felt wary going with these friends who were addicted to coffee, and didnt really want to tell them I thought they had a problem. Imagine if pubs or bars gave out alcohol cards, every time you drank 9 beers you got one free or something.

Rachel quits the coffee shop gig she hated after 2 years. Yet strangely the next day shes back there having coffee with the friends.

Nobody found that weird?! I wouldnt go back to just hang out at a workplace I didnt enjoy! (Maybe I secretly held a grudge?)

This is where the writers had a bit of a 'run out of ideas' patch. The other weird thing in Friends world is Phoebe jumps in bed with every guy she meets. Ok you are young and attractive and you cant wait, I get it. But its also a throw away thing, like it doesnt matter. You just break up with them the next day, get over it and go on to the next person.

Of course New York City is a revolving door. Its not like a small town where, if you slept with Jimmy from next door all the neighbours would know and shun you. In New York, all the neighbours know but they just dont care and tell you to be quiet if you making too much noise going at it.

Sounds like life at a backpackers hostel.

I am curious to know if the Quaker Friends would have a sitcom made of their hangout. There is less wisecracks and theres no big sofa, but they DO actually hang out together a lot.

I watched the one where Richard and Monica are friends.

They of course, end up sleeping together again. And then naturally have to break up. Cos Monica wants babies and Richard doesnt as he already has had them.
What I find funny watching it now is they bump into each other in a video store, where Monica is going to rent a video (and actual videoTAPE, not a dvd)

There are hardly any video or dvd stores left anymore!

the one where noones ready is kinda funny, when Joey wears ALL Chandlers clothes. No idea why Chandler is so possessive of furniture...?!

But my favourite story of this series so far is when Joey and Rachel swap books. Joey reads Rachels fave, Little Women, and Rachel gives The Shining a go.
Joey starts giving spoilers on The Shining to Rachel and she gets annoyed so she starts giving Joey spoilers on Little Women.

haha you not supposed to tell people their future before they have lived it themselves, so the same applies to books right?

I am thinking of inviting my friends over for a Friends bingewatch plus pizza party.
If having at my place we will have to start watching from season 3 where I have got up to.

Everyone has to eat a wedge or onion ring everytime

Chandler makes a wisecrack
Joey says 'how you doin' or does the eyebrow thing
Rachel clears her throat
Monica has a spaz about something
Ross walks like a neanderthal into a door
Phoebe tosses her hair

Now just have to find five friends who are all free on the same night...or maybe just two. Im not even sure if my friends liked Friends lol. The last time I watched Friends with friends, I was at uni.

am bummed, none of my Friends likes friends that much to watch it together.
Must have been a uni thing then. To get out of study.

I dont keep in touch with the students I used to live with once I left...I guess we werent REALLY friends then, or perhaps not enough to marry each other lol. I guess I wasnt paying much attention, there were probably more couples at the hostels than I realised, who knows where the guy who lived across the corridor from me is now as I have no clue.

As for living in the city, like right where you work meh no thanks. Sounds fun in theory but in reality you'd just get tired of all the wild drunken parties and drug use. Not that that doesnt happen in the suburbs but at least you can walk down the street by yourself and nobody automatically thinks you are a hooker or prey.

I don't have any friends. There's an upside and downside to it.

Sometimes I think it would be nice to have them....especially in this dark period of life I'm in. And there are other times when I think having them might add to my depression.

But I guess I manage okay on my own. I personally don't view friends as being a necessity in life.
I understand where you’re coming from. I’ve had friends who did not have my best interest at heart in the past, but that is because of my upbringing I did not know about boundaries until I put some work into myself and let God show me how.

I am wary of people in real life, only because I have been taken advantage of in the past, I was a people pleaser who let people stay in my life longer than they should have. Lots of friends don’t mean peace and happiness, but I would like to have a couple of close friends that we can meet for coffee or take a hike or something. For now Jesus Christ is my best friend, my mom is my close friend and she has terminal cancer so that’s tough - but our relationship has grown closer as a result. For that, I am grateful.

Like you, I’m finding connection on here. I don’t think it’s healthy to be completely in the wilderness alone. Not yet anyway! Perhaps there is a season coming for that in the end times as we approach it. And guess what? We are already being trained for that time. God bless you.

oh well.
cats are particular about where they go. But thats not really anything to do with friends. Or even the topic of thread.

Cats generally find their owners, you dont just somehow 'get a cat' just cos you want one. If your friend has a cat, generally you get along if you also a cat person. But not the same of you are a dog person. Dogs can be vicious and possessive. And you dont really want to be picking up your friends dogs poo. Maybe you are the kind of friend who does that. But generally I just dont like dogs going through my underwear.
I have two cats and they are wonderful companions! They make me laugh every day. I’m grateful for them.

I asked God for a friend who lived nearby enough to hang out with, and He answered my prayer.
We walk to the bakery up the road for a hot drink once a month or so, and have been on walks.

Its not quite Friends as in a whole gang of friends but she is actually a FRIEND i.e a Quaker friend. She goes to this fellowship in town.

I didnt know God would take me so literally. But since shes like nearer my mums age its not like she would ever get Friends tv show if she ever watches tv at all. ha

In my old job I had this workmate who also lived down the road from me but he was gay and also sometimes cadged rides from me, so, he wasnt really what I would call a friend. Also I think he just thought I wasnt cool enough to hang out with. lol

my new job my workmates usually hang out at the local pub for trivia night, but I never get round to going cos i dont know, I dont enjoy trivia nights all the time, sometimes they just go on for too long and its too noisy and people get drunk. (as tends to happen in pubs) So maybe Im just anti-social, but I since I work with them all the time I dont necessarily want to hang out with them in my free time as well.

I make friends with books. call me a nerd, I dont care.

ugh the Ross and Rachel thing. What is that. Shes only interested in him when hes going with someone else, but then they get together, she loses interest. Bratty behaviour much.

apparently the only reason they are together is because 'shes his lobster'

I reckon Joey and Phoebe should have got together. lol

a lot of people say well its because Ross and Rachel had chemistry, but what exactly is 'chemistry' anyway. Explosions? Reactions? Is that good for people or bad. I would have thought having chemistry might be toxic.

I would rather people had something else rather than chemistry...maybe biology, or magnetism, or electricity, but definitely not 'chemistry' as its rather painful to watch a constant push me pull you reaction. You know they are never going to lose those electrons.

no no no

Monica goes out with Richards SON. She used to date Richard.

Dont all tv soaps turn incestuous at some point. when they run out of ppl to sleep with?

Phoebe has her brothers babies.

I suppose its meant to be FUNNY. Of course, I think, they are just ACTING. free porn? how is that ok, and the girls are totally fine with it. Monica even offers Playboy magazines to the boys to get them to hang out in their swapped apartment. Maybe only in America???

I dont know if I would have my brothers babies...would you. I mean would you??

surrogacy is now so common you can pay people to have your babies. in the Friends world, they paid $16000 to have IVF treatment and got triplets.

oK Mary did it for free, I suppose but when God does it, you dont really question it.

She did get to raise Jesus though.
