I was married to a agnostic who would be irate if I had Christian TV on and who, btw, received Jesus right before his departing. I had many church friends at the time and the difference is while my husband was very humorous but shell-shocked from Viet Nam, I could not discuss anything Christian w/him. Now, in my small groups, there are males and females where we're talking Holy Spirit things. I can look them in the eyes and see the Spiritual connection and it's quite heavenly. Of course, we're still human and esp with politics, it's a challenge to find someone 'eye-to-eye' on everything ie candidates, masks, extremists etc with the other person. But it's fun working it out calmly together.
i love that you underlined CALMLY. no need for a lot of shouting and waving of arms. lol

Well, shouting does help one to know whether or not you have ever had your tonsils removed, and arm-waving might reveal whether or not one shaves their armpits.

What?

You do not agree?

HOW DARE YOU DISAGREE WITH ME!!!

We always hear the warning about being unequally yoked but...is anyone equally yoked and what does that actually look like.
What things do you look for or how do you know when someone is your equal?
Is it just, you partner is also a christian and thats all they need to be, or do they have to be the same age, height. weight, profession, skin colour, eye colour, culture, blood type, GPA, IQ, bank balance, have the same interests, speak the same langauge, wear the exact same brand sneakers or what??
Well me unevenly yoked would be spiritual depth . deep call to deep . having a believer on a different pace with God it would cause strain . personally I rather wait on God's leading because I think it's highly essential to be evenly yoked to run Race of the Believer.

How would you measure spiritual depth?
What about getting on a see-saw?

Or..going to a dance, like people used to. If you could dance with someone without stepping on their toes, that might indicate something?

Go diving together? I don't know.

How do you measure it though. You go by what version someone's read, or how many times, or the number of verses you've memorised or what.

Not really helping. Lots of Christians read the Bible. Do you just go with the first christian you see?

Might it be an advisory warning against eggheads pairing up with airheads?

2 Corinthians 6:14 asks, "...Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? And I think this help us color what it means to be unequally yoked, since darkness is the absence of light. So, yoking yourself to unbelievers is the definition of being 'unequally yoked.'
It also asked, "For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common?" so, it might also help our understanding if we can figure out what the righteous do have in common (and going by the spectrum of theological differences, it wouldn't seem to be close to not much, other than the light).

I think it would be playing it safe to consider those with the humility, and matching attitude to display that, "He is God and I am not" to be those of equal yoke. Especially considering those that reflect the "I am God, He is not" perspective are those in darkness, regardless of any Christian proclamation.

isnt this fellowship though not relationship, which seems to be a bit different.

I can get along with most christian, but it doesnt necessarily mean I would want to marry them (or a non-christian) and it also means that they dont necessarily want to marry me. Marriage being more of an unbreakable yoke dont you think?

Though actually there are some proclaimed christians that I have noticed I cant seem to get along with no matter how hard I try, it seems they rub me the wrong way. So I dont know what that's all about.

Men and women seem so unequal already that its a miracle that they can fellowship or walk together without fighting about it. The male is always going to be somewhat physically stronger than the weaker female right and she is not always going to keep up (appearances, esp after having maybe 1- 7 children) as I noticed a lot of men frequently abandon their children and dont take an active part in raising them

A relationship that involves fellowship would be the ideal relationship, I would think. And I suppose that would recommend understanding of our differences. There is an inescapable reality that time is harsher to women than it is to men. Perhaps that evens out the otherwise perceived unequal distribution of beauty toward the women's side. It is stunning, and glorious in its brilliance, like an flower, but that fades so much faster than the sappy and much sturdier pine.

yea maybe they catch up in the middle somewhere.

Oxen are yoked with equal weight distribution I have seen photos of bullocks who used to haul kauri logs in the olden days before tractors were invented. They were immensely strong but they had to work together so closely, they would be same-sex pairs though.

yea, I thought it was about fellowship too not marriage relationships, which seems inherently unequal to me.

A lot of people refer to it as partnerships instead of relationship. You ALREADY have a relationship with your parents and brothers and sisters because you are RELATED.

2 Corinthian 6:14
King James Bible
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness

“Unbelievers - I believe this has great significance of the matter at hand.

Nice to meet you lanolin… What a peculiar name.

No this is how the discerning gos . the holy spirit is resident in the believer so its written, the knowledge of God revealed to the believer through the holy spirit bares witness to every word that's uttered . Hebrews 4:12 English Standard Version (ESV)For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. The standard of measure is the word of God .
