It is like it, don't just make blanket statements as if they're fact and not provide anything to substantiate your POV, that's what Trump's detractors say he and his supporters do. Here's an article with some facts, there are many similarities...the difference is that Covid-19 does not as yet seem to be as deadly as the flu, particularily for infants....influenza is incredibly lethal with new borns but Covid-19 is not and scientists are trying to understand why. The biggest difference is that flu strains are better known.

https://www.livescience.com/new-coronavirus-compare-with-flu.html

The differences are what matter, not what is comprable that is my point.
And the differences are substantial enough to make it worrisome.

People seem to miss this entire point and problem, which just baffles me... the point is the health care system and its ability to deal with this pandemic over and above what it already does on a day to day basis.

Who it targets is not even the issue.

where we live, the semi-over-reaction-panic-mode is almost completely gone - people are walking and talking
and buying about as usual - yes, there will always be the extreme panickers, whom the powers that be target,
and this is the vast majority, but in our neighborhood, this is simply no so.
we feel that the 'world-wide' reaction will subside as the 'flu' takes its natural course...

just for statistical comparison, anyone can go to the CDC' and 'compare' the 2009' flu's death toll,
and you will see that it was a lot worse that what we are being FED Today...

and so; may we all be brave and secure enough to ask ourselves in our Faith,
'are we going to listen to the prince of the power of the air',
or to our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ for our comfort and answers???
This is the start not the end of the virus for the USA.

New York had 12 000 new cases today, those are people infected two weeks ago.

If the measures that have been put in place do not work what will the numbers be in two weeks I wonder.......
The regular flu season does not follow the same exponential growth curve.

Perhaps you think the extrodinary measures being taken to combat the CoronaVirus, that they should be employed every year during the flu season, which starts Oct 1 according to the CDC and then peters out in March and April.

As things currently stand the US is reporting about 85,000 cases of Covid-19...with a hospitalization rate of around 12%. Compare that with the flu, which so far has resulted in 400,000 to 730,000 hospitalizations....those estimates are from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.

Flu places a tremendous burden on the health care system in every country, and particularily in places with high levels of senior populations.

How are we going to fund health care systems if we're shutting down the economic activity that pays for it?

I will say this much. I have never been a big fan of Donald Trump, however as a Canadian I have no say in the upcoming American election. With that being said I do like some of the things Trump has done, cancelling the Trans Pacific Trade deal comes immediately to mind, as an Old-Line Liberal I have never liked free trade agreements as they erode national soverignty. I also liked his withdraw of troops from Syria....if Obama had done the same the left would have applauded.

My opinion of Trump notwithstanding...if this Covid-19 pandemic ends up being no less severe than a flu epidemic....then the POTUS is going to come out of this smelling like roses and looking like a prophet, while the scientific experts and their mouthpieces in the MSM will look like a bunch of Chicken Littles.

Trust of gov't and scientific authority is already at all time lows....the Imperial College of London report which is the primary driver of the extrodinary actions being taken, it predicts over 1 million deaths in the United States and 250,000 in Great Britain. That is with the mitigation efforts of social distancing, school closures and isolating the aged and most vulnerable. Time will tell if their computer models are right.

My prayer is that they're horribly wrong again...

I hate to appeal to authority but I guess I am going to have to... my nephew is a physician in Dallas and what you are stating it not the full picture by any means....
Hospitals are prepared for a regular flu season for the most part and yes sometimes it gets over burdened.
Fact though this Covid-19 does not attack the lungs the same way at all... most people require a ventilator for about ten days and sometimes up to 20 days and which case in Italy they just pulled the plug.

Regular flu ventilation to help breath about 2 to 3 days.

This is just one part of it ... and just one small facet.
However, denial seems to be the measure of the day while front line workers are sick and dying as we sit here and type on our computers.

So far the impact of Covid-19 is a fraction of what a bad flu season brings. Almost 25,000 people died during the 2016/2017 flu season in Italy....we shall see if the number of Covid-19 deaths climb by about 150% and approach what would be considered a bad flu season. Of course even during a bad flu season you could never senstationalize it enough to drive countless small businesses into bankruptcy.

EH,
you are so precious in your loving-concern for brothers and sisters -
try and not to over worry/think about the out-come for these 'last-days',
for this is a 'worldly' - epidemic, brought to pass by the principle,
GAL. 6:7.
Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap.
EX. 15:26.
And said,
If you will diligently hear to The voice of The LORD you God, and will do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.

Not worried.
I just wish people with stick with the facts/truth and get the full story.
Thank you for the scripture... part of being doing what is right is to look at something with unbiased eyes and paying no heed to politicians who are known liars.

it is very good to fulfill the scripture: 'Prove all things'...
it is wonderful to fulfill the scripture:
11COR. 5:7.
(For we walk by Faith, not by sight:)
11TIM. 2:4.
No man that wars entangles himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please Him who has chosen him to be a soldier.

I have never liked free trade agreements as they erode national soverignty.
And on this point we no longer live in the 1700's ... this is a global economy .. for example people want an affordable cell phone then they relinquish some of their sovereignty we cannot have it both ways.

We don't know where we are yet, anyone who claims otherwise is talking out of their nether regions. A study published out of Oxford University in England estimates that as many as 50% of Britains may have already been infected and recovered. Likewise there's a Nobel Prize winning scientist who predicted the peak of the Wuhan outbreak, (when everyone said he was nuts) who is saying the pandemic has peaked and will be over soon.

Sorry if I'm not as anxious about this as you seem to be....I'm reading lots and taking my information from reputable experts and there is no consensus about where we are or where we are going. Ultimately I believe the toll from this virus will turn out to be less severe than a bad outbreak of the seasonal flu.

Time will tell if I'm right or wrong. God bless....

There has always been trade, with tarrifs and like measures used to maintain viable domestic industries, be it in manufacturing or agriculture or whatever. What country reasonably wants to destroy its farmers or capacity to produce products.....thus putting its economy at the mercy of foreign governments.

What I find interesting, from a Canadian perspective...it was the Conservative government of Brian Mulroney that negotiated the first Free Trade agreement with the United States, back when G HW Bush was president. In this country we had an election with the trade deal being the central issue, and the Liberal and Socialist NDP parties both campaigned against it.....now its Conservative types who are more prone to being anti-free trade, while Liberals tend to love it.....my view hasn't changed.

Much of trumps overkill is due to Democrats insanity.
He HAS TO OVERREACT.
I f he does not, they will roast him.
The media is a hair short of captivating trump followers.
If they ever do,it is over.
We are one election away from a communist leadership.
The entire future of our country is riding on trumps actions for the next few months.

The wu flu will end shortly.

The effects of the overkill and PREEMPTIVE shutdows are now a precedent for insane Democrats to do preemptive shutdowns at will.

Just like all the people here are framing the shutdowns as "anyone not agreeing with overkill is heartless and a narcissist"
That false appeal to emotion is gonna bite this country big time.
Preemptive shutdowns are now future weapons to guarantee bills passed by dems on the wave of false hysreria.
Look at how tempting bio warfare has become.
Brought and packaged for you by dems.
Now any ole flu will work.

You heard it here first
Of course this is some people's fears but I trust the will of God and the promises of His Word. We do all we can but like Ephesians 6 explains. After doing all, Stand firm.

With the destruction of the US and Global economy, accompanied by a tremendous loss of freedom, we are either being lied to about just how incredibly deadly this virus is, and untold millions will die, or they know it is NOT incredibly deadly, and are using this as an excuse to completely control us and take away our liberty.
I dont understand what you are saying here @PennEd ... what do they gain by lying to us? What are they lying about and WHY would they lie? nn truth, I really think they dont know yet .. It is still unfolding, unfortunately. We need to self isolate, no? I now work from home and consider myself very lucky to a) be able to do this and b) still have a job ... even though I realize there willl be more cutbacks from my company and we are being asked to go without pay for 2 weeks ... and there may be more to come. I just want this to end & to find a vaccine. Thanks in advance for your response.
