lol,,but just to make things clear to the other nations in the world(so their not mad at all Americans) those who are stating these things are from the "united states" (a nation that is in the north American continent),,others are from Canada(another nation in the north American contenant. I am in Peru another nation that is in south America,,

so we are all "Americans" and most do not use the term America(continent) to describe the name of a nation (eccept for those in the u.s.) so if there are any offensive content reflected by an "American" please denote which nation is saying these things. all nations that are in the Americas are not ruled by the united states government nor are all nations in the Americas "free",i.e. Cuba(a communist nation) so please do not let what might be said by those who are united states peoples reflect on the peoples of the other American nations,,,thank you

When Canada gets pneumonia the world does not notice.

When America scratches her nose, the world is there with cameras.

Being number one has a lot of responsibilities and drawbacks. Its part of being the best nation in the world.

Also, I think these posts about america being american centric ( like what, we are supposed to be Luxembourg centric??? ) is to distract from my original post that totally devastates all liberal ideology.....

and I doubt anyone from Canada is a staunch conservative.
I don't know if you noticed but the US is the laughing stock of the planet right now.

and still is the one nation everyone looks to for aid, comfort and military support.

Remove our military bases and europe will have to defend herself against what is still a threat, the revised Russia. They couldn't afford their socialist ways AND a military.

Remove our intellectual impact and economic impact and the world would suffer greatly.

We are still number one no matter how much our president and his cohorts hate us. No matter how the world perceives us.

We will recover. We recovered from the embarrassment of Carter. We will recover from the shame of Obama.

Or the world will not have us as their whipping boy...and support.

As someone with a degree in Political Science(INternational Law, Comparative INternational Politics, International Political Organizations, International Politics) and a minor in International Global Studies, I'm offended by your trite generalizations.
She's Canadian, and they're just jealous.

When it's winter 11 months of the year, you get kind of jealous of your warmer neighbors. :)

So many of you have exactly proved my point!

Only America counts, and you don't care to know anything about any other countries.

Somehow you are so blind, you fail to realize that what happens outside your borders is actually very important for the future of your country.

Wars in other countries that you create is a starting point.

Then there is business and import/export commodities. Do you know whether the US has a positive trade balance or a negative? Do you know that the US owes China 3 billion dollars? If they asked for it, the US would be bankrupt.

Your country wants my oil. In pipelines that damages the environment. Doesn't that mean anything? Your president goes to many other countries to make secret and private deals. Doesn't that mean anything?

I am not just talking about Canada. I really don't care if you talk about the politics of my country. But the politics of countries around the globe affect America. You are not isolated, but you all seem to show no concern for international politics and what the rest of the world can do or not do to America.

My desire is that Americans do learn about the rest of the world. I see over and over this isolationist view, that only America counts. We would never do that in Canada. We learn about other countries, because it affects us. Americans are woefully ignorant of the rest of the world, and it may be your downfall.

Not Obama, but the ignorance of Americans may be the end of your country. Just look at the history of the British Empire, if you want to see an empire that collapsed from within. Or the Roman!!

Learn history, and look beyond your borders. You have lost supremacy in the world in every area, but you keep on acting like the rest of the world doesn't affect you.

Rant over!!
You're right.........But what is the reason? I personally think media brainwashing is to blame.....turning us into a "me" society, & of course I blame the lazyness of the nation too.

What ticks me off is much of that "aid" goes "through" the UN.... & they disperse it where they please. Even though we're not EU...... we still act like it..... kinda like in effort, but not in name.

And whether or not we'll recover........ That mostly depends on the Federal Reserve, doesn't it?:p

The original premise still stands....

liberalism that claims to be compassionate for the poor, in actual practice, only line their own pockets at the expence of the poor. More power in the hands of the few. More division between rich and poor. Less opportunity to succeed.

It seems liberalism could be synonymous with hypocrite.

Or our lack of care to explain things to one person chimed in. Especially one whose mind is set against it anyways. Besides there is much more to liberalism besides your perceived views of he economic strategies. Which again probably is not the main reason for people becoming liberals.

Sorry not to comment recently! I finally figured out what bothers me most about this post!

It has an open title, not specific to the USA. Then it goes on to talk only about the US, not a global viewpoint.

There are lots of threads on here about the US. Usually it is my policy to either ignore them, or read and not comment.

But this thread title make it seem like it applied to the whole world, then focused on the US, without a single American even noticing it!

As for Nautilus, if the shoe fits wear it! Sorry to have included you in my rants!

One liberal says nothing but accuses. Another tries to change the topic...again. Not one answer to the facts I presented.

They can't.

Without accusation there is no foundation to the emotion driven ideology liberalism. When facts are given that disproves their ideology, they name call or change the topic.

Can you dispute the facts given in the first few posts on this thread? They prove that what liberalism says its for, in practice, its against. Proven without question...

liberalism is hypocritical and purposely so. It must lie to exist.

Its master lies too, all the time.

Here in California, The money's almost gone. Many cities are dirt poor now with some in bankruptcy court. The state's over $419 billion in debt with pension liabilities of $640 billion.

The $3.2 billion surplus expected by the end of 2014 is miniscule in proportion and largely a result of cash home sales by foreign investors (mostly Chinese) and not a result of the private sector actually turning around.

Even if foreigners continue buying California homes and the surplus continues, there's no guarantee that Brown will be able to use the money to pay down the debt and pension liabilities as California is run by a hungry Democrat legislature that wants to spend it on welfare, illegal aliens, public "works" projects in their districts, etc...

California Economy Could Cost Jerry Brown Re-Election - Bloomberg

Most non-Californians don't realize just how many people are here. The U.S. Census Bureau has 38,332,521 Californians as of 2013. How many people live in your state? If the beans and rice finally completely run out here, guess where they're going to go? That's right, YOUR state. I hope your state's welfare offices are ready to receive them. Given how many criminal gang bangers are embedded here I suppose we have to also ask if your jails and prisons are ready as well.

I think my state has enough illegals....Florida. The problem is not illegals, its why the democrats, and sadly enough the republicans now are giving them amnesty. Its not about changing laws. Its about bribing votes.

Again, another poster child for liberal ideologies, California.

Haven't we enough californias and Detroits? Hasn't liberal ideology proven itself not only to be a failed system but a corrupt and power hungry one as well?

Look how much Texas is spending on illegal aliens and note that they take more than 70% of all new job growth in Texas:

Abstract: The Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration on Texans (2014)

Another point that is often overlooked is the enormity of scholarly research conducted by the U.S. government and by organizations originating in the United States for the U.S. and the world at large. The U.S. conducts more research for issues whose scope is global than any other nation on earth and a great deal of research conducted is for foreign nations dealing with their domestic issues apart from the U.S..

I addressed american politics and point of view because, I am an american and I was addressing american ideals. I do not live in any other country nor do I know their politics.

Ethical Principles Which SHOULD Guide Immigration Policy (as opposed to how much of other people's stuff you can take by force from them to reallocate to foreigners to increase the number of people who vote for you):

1. PROMOTES THE NATIONAL INTEREST: Just as every other country has immigration policies to protect its own citizens, the purpose of U.S. immigration policy is to advance the national interest in benefitting the citizens of the United States.

2. PROMOTES PRODUCTIVE CITIZENS: Unless there is a compelling national interest to do otherwise, every part of an immigration policy should be designed to protect the ability of non-working Americans to obtain a job, and of those with jobs to earn promotions and raises for their contributions to society.

3. PROMOTES THE MOST DISADVANTAGED: Special attention should be devoted to ensuring that policies don't reduce incentives for employers to recruit and train workers from U.S. demographic groups with persistently high joblessness and poverty, including Black, Indigenous and Hispanic Americans, veterans, the disabled, young adults, the less-educated and ex-offenders.

4. PROTECTS QUALITY OF LIFE, LIBERTY and SECURITY: Since immigration policy, especially through its numerical level, can profoundly and quickly change a community, it should be set by deliberate actions, not by accident or acquiescence, with careful consideration to ensure that it does not adversely affect the quality of life, security or liberty of U.S. citizens and their communities.

If I said, I was going to help the hurricane victims in the Phillipines and I was very persuasive, collected 10 million dollars and kept 7 million for myself all the while saying I cared about the hurricane victims, painted myself as compassionate and made speech after speech about how much I cared about these victims....

would I be a hypocrite?

Remember, this was during a recession at home, and I gave all my helpers huge raises after I collected the monies.

THAT'S, liberal government welfare.

Its more than fiscal liberalism. Fiscal liberalism comes with the lie of social liberalism...compassion for the poor while they keep 70% of the money. Its blatant hypocrisy. ( Let alone the hypocrisy of social liberalism when it comes to bigotry and abortion )

it would seem that the top 1% believe most strongly in class warfare. this is shown in everything form tax rates to access to the political leadership. when the us was preparing to go into iraq i was with a group of young people who went to a senators office. the purpose of the visit was to ask if she had read the response of the guardian to the colin powell speech and if she had known the facts revealed in the article, would she have still voted in favor of the invasion. i was media coordinator for the group. i called the washington office 5 times to tell her that a group of constituents were in her office and would like to speak to her. i made 5 calls with no response before the kids ended up locking themselves together and sitting down on the office floor. if that was a group of executives from a large corporation i suspect they would have gotten a different response and not have had to do that to get the senators attention.
