How do you get rich before God?
32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
To be rich towards God is to be given the kingdom.
33 Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.
This obviously refers to money, but it refers to more than that. Suppose you are a doctor, you make a very good living. You can "sell that and give to the poor". You could become a missionary and give your skills as a doctor for free. The same with teachers, lawyers, mechanics, etc. I was mentored by a brother who was poor and lived a very austere life. I would go to his house at night and there would always be some brother or sister visiting with a car problem. He would spend two or three hours fixing their car and I would hand him the tools. These ones came to him because they had no money but would often bring food instead.
34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
We need to guard our heart, it is our most precious possession. A proper heart can lead us to life and a corrupt heart can lead us to hell. Putting our treasure in heaven keeps our heart guarded and protected.
35 Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning;
We gird our loins with the truth. That means we spend time in the word of God each day, just as you gird your loins each day. To let your lights be burning means you are speaking, sharing, ministering, praying, worshipping, preaching, and evangelizing. If you cannot remember the last time your lights were burning that is a huge warning.
36 And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.
Paul said there is a crown for all those who love the Lord's appearing. This is a real powerful indicator of your spiritual health. If you hesitate, if you are like "Lord, can you wait until I get married" or "Lord, can you wait until..." then know the gauge is giving you a very big warning sign.
37 Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.
38 And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.
