Intention matters. Motives matters. As of now with the evidence I believe they truly thought a crime had been committed. But the evidence played against them. I dont believe a death sentence is necessary but definitely time behind bars. They still killed a innocent man.

Motive and intention aren't really that weighty in this case because it is a case of self defense. You can speculate that maybe Arbery's motive for physically assaulting the men is because he was perhaps up to criminal activity, but it's still a moot point because the simple truth is he physically assaulted them regardless of his motive and they had to defend themselves.
