I learned guitar at 14 and messed around with bass at 18 but I'm severely out of practice.
Right on that’s about the age I started playing 14, first guitar was a Hondo sg, then a Ibanez roadstar. I’ve went through a few over the years. I’d like to get a Les Paul but man the price tags are up there.

No doubt about that brotha, then we’ll have to save more and buy another to switch up and jam together hehe. Nothing like a cool jam session.

I’ve been playing the guitar, but I haven’t made much progress. I have improved but I didn’t ever make the time to learn songs. I just play my own stuff, by ear. Originals.

I don’t know why, but I didn’t ever find a song I wanted to learn and then I just wanted to play my own songs.

So my method seems to be that I need to learn more chords, so that I am able to have more sounds in my songs. Only problem is I haven’t been able to do barre chords. 😒

It’s a peculiar way to the learn the guitar, but some people think it’s a good idea so that you don’t get stuck in someone else’s lane, and you pave your own style.
Hi BenFTW, I agree, I learnt for a few years from a guitar teacher and one thing he taught was to develop your own sound therefore he tried not to give TOO much advice that might push his style on to me.

What kind of guitar? I been slacking since going back to work. Just working and sleeping. Haven't done much on the guitar lately. I bought a small guitar to fit in my backpack. I need to just carry that to work and play on my breaks.

Cool. I play my own songs too. Are yours melodies or do they have words too?
I've always enjoyed country music, but I often don't listen because I don't agree with a lot of the lyrics.
I like Irish trad, bluegrass, contemporary Christian, and classical.
