it’s grace and truth together the gospel is now and has always been “ repent and receive remission of your sins through Christ “

something I feel That’s important is the context of Jesus saying “ be perfect therefore “ what he’s talking about is being merciful specifically there so rather than just quoting be perfect in a vacuum if we look at the context it helps us zero in on what he’s teaching
“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven:
for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”
Matthew 5:44-48
What I hear is Jesus explaining that we need to become merciful like God is merciful we need to help those who are against us , bless the curses we receive forgive transgression against us like God forgave us .
we already aren’t perfect from the start Jesus is about calling us from that imperfection setting these high heavenly goals before our faith causing us to press forward into those things
we need to perfect our mercy to others so when we face the lord for all our words and deeds we have mercy waiting
