I agree that the symbols that modern nations take on are a clue into which spiritual principality they continue to represent. I just believe that the USA is the beast of the earth:
I particularly believe the USA is the beast from the earth and that the beast of the sea was the Holy Roman Empire (with Papal Rome as the head that was wounded and healed).
Reasons for my argument
- In the OT we are told that the nations were divided between the "sons of God" (i.e. spiritual principalities; angels).
- In the book of Daniel, he is visited by a man in linen but is told that "the prince of Persia" prevented The Man from reaching Daniel. This was a princ(ipality). The Man in Linen received help from Michael - Daniel's Prince; the Principality of Israel - to reach Daniel. So there are spiritual principalities over nations/kingdoms. Or said another way, there are nations/kingdoms that represent spirits.
- In Revelation 12, we read that the Woman (Israel; bride of God) gives birth to the manchild who will rule. And then the dragon chases her into the wilderness. Well, this event could be nothing else but the birth of the Messiah and then the Jews being persecuted and chased out of Jerusalem by Pagan Rome.
- Just like Babylon literally used the lion on its banner in fulfillment of Daniel 7, Pagan Rome used the eagle and the dragon on its banners. The Draco was the banner of the cavalry and was adopted later by the infantry. So, Rome chased the Jews into the wilderness and persecuted them after the messiah ascended to heaven, in literal fulfillment of Revelation 12.
- Revelation 13 describes the beast from the sea rising and the dragon giving his authority to it. The beast is said to be an amalgamation of all former kingdoms and speaks blasphemous words against God. Well, the bishop of Rome was given his authority by the Roman Emperor, and the Holy Roman Empire was eventually born as the pagan Roman Empire faded. Historical records reveal all the blasphemous statements the Papacy has made including he is god made flesh, he holds the place of god on earth, he is able to change holy laws, etc.
The papacy is also responsible for: persecuting the Jews, the crusades, the inquisitions, justification for colonization, and the establishment of worldwide slavery ("he that leads into captivity shall go into captivity")...until the papacy was ended by the French and the pope was exiled (i.e. deadly wound) in 1798.
- Revelation 17:15 describes the sea that the beast of the sea came from was a multitude of nations and languages. Compare this to the beast of the earth that comes from the land. So the next ruling empire would begin in a land where there were few people and languages. In fulfillment of this portion of prophecy, during the twilight of the Papacy, in 1776, the USA was formed from a land that had very few people.
- Revelation 13 says it would appear as a lamb but speak as a dragon. A lamb is innocent and virtuous, while a dragon is the imagery of satan. So the nation would appear righteous and good but enact policies that are contradictory to principles established by the living God.
- A horn in scripture represents power/strength/might. The beast of the earth has two horns. So the nation would have two principal representations of power. The USA has a two-party system of rule; parties that are as diametrically opposed to each other as any two nations of people could be, constantly vying for control.
- Prophecy says the Beast from the earth would exercise all the authority of the Beast of the sea (but never said the first Beast gave the new Beast any power). The US has held the mantle of world leader for a while now after Papal Rome was dissolved. Religious leadership was replaced with technological leadership.
- The Beast of the earth would have the power to call fire down from heaven. The USA was the first to develop atomic firepower dropped from the sky.
- The Beast would have the power to give life to the image of the Beast (of the sea) that people should worship it. To "give life to the image"...to animate the image...motion pictures; movies and television. The USA established Hollywood and the mainstream media to propagandize any cause. It is through television that we learn who the USA deems our allies and enemies are (who should be killed), regardless of the truth.
- Revelation refers to the beast of the earth as the "false prophet". Well. the word propaganda comes from the full Latin phrase "Congregation de Propaganda Fide", which mean "congregation of propagating faith". So to propagandize is to prophesy about something or someone you believe in. The USA and its mainstream media are "the false prophet", spreading ideals that are contradictory to biblical principles including democracy (i.e. the rule of the people) versus theocracy (i.e. the rule of god).

"He that was, is not, and yet is". And since then the USA has broadcast each new pope that has entered the office of the papacy as an important event to all citizens.
- Revelation says the beast from the earth will cause all to receive a mark on their foreheads or hand so that they could not buy or sell except for having the mark or the name or the number of his name. The beast's name is the United States of America, and its currency is the world's reserve currency for oil. Because the US currency is established and loaned out by and through the Federal Reserve private banking system, anyone who wants to transact business must believe in (i.e. mark on forehead) or work for (i.e. mark in hand) the US.
- Revelation 13 says "Those who have wisdom count the number of the beast for it is a number of a man and that number is 666". Well, our fractional reserve banking system, which has been duplicated and expanded into the world's IMF, was started by one family: Mayer Amschel Bauer, a german-jewish banker who changed his name to Rothschild which is German for "the red shield", which is the 6-sided, 6-triangled, 6-pointed star. So his name is literally a number.
This image - called "the star of David" and "the seal of Solomon" - is originally the star of Remphan, and represented the idol worship that Stephen mentioned certain Pharisees were involved in before he was stoned, as referenced in Amos 5:26-27:

Ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, figures which ye made to worship them: and I will carry you away beyond Babylon.

The beast from the sea has to be from the countries that surround the Mediterranean Sea, old Roman empire. It will be aligned with 10 nations ( 10 toes ) and 3 will be conquered--Egypt, Libya, Ethiopia. Antichrist will be the 8th then.
And the beast from the earth is the kingdom of the antichrist, the little horn which came up among the 10
