I also know that the bible states tongues shall cease....study that out in the Greek....I also know by family, friends and their testimony that most is fraudulent....and I also know what took place in Acts is NOT WHAT TAKES PLACE in most charismatic churches.....make no mistake....the word of God defines my belief and defines our practice...I have yet to see a biblical practice or honesty from most the push the least of the gifts...that being languages
Ok. I'm not going to argue. Just one last error of thought that I see.

The gift of tongues that is least is when the message in a fellowship is given in tongues, and then interpreted. It's least when compared to prophecy because it takes more faith to step out boldly to prophecy in ones native language, then it is to speak it in tongues.

Our prayer language, IMO, is the most important gift for us individually. You just have to be there....so to speak. 😉

Nite to all.

The only thing I am trying to understand is when you hear someone speaking in tongues how do you know when it is real or a counterfeit?
Experience
fellowship with other saints who also pray in tongues
never in 23 years have I ever heard any tongue that sounded fake or counterfeit.

You made the comparison sis...not me....and baseball chatter is not peddled as tongues.........Like I have said....when one can stand up, speak English and a Chinese man with no English back ground can understand and hear the English in Mandrin and another can interpret....I will buy it......until then......cease, fail and vanish away continue to be ignored while MOST occurences are nothing more than fleshly outbursts......note.....I said MOST....not ALL......Or...one with NO BACKGROUND IN MANDRIN can stand and speak it fluently with interpretors......
Not most, ALL.

I believe in the ministry of tongues to a believer, though it goes against my understanding.
What concerns me is churches that teach people to practice speaking or babbling.
This makes a mockery of the whole gifting claim. Anyone could babble, it does not make
it spiritual. And going on the amount of heresy in Latter Rain movement which assumes
people babbling means God is present demonstrates some false assumptions.

In order to become a christian today one must follow the example set forth in God's Word on the Day of Pentecost when the church was birthed. The instructions given on the Day of Pentecost point to the fact that the message/promise was given to all those in the future as many as the Lord thy God shall call. (Acts 2:39)

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" 2 Tim 3:16

Please share scripture that states people receive the Holy Ghost when they believe.
I got the Holy Spirit. Ore will you tell me I have not?

Your way to use the bible seems not different as the JW use it.

Then you say, that between the first time of pentecost and 1900 ad. when Agnes Ozman received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and talking in tongues, there where no christians worldwide.
According your claim.
Bible teaches clear: who believes in Jesus is saved! And this includet that the saved person receives the Holy Spirit. Without the Holy Spirit ore the Spirit of Christ nobody is saved.
I know that I received the Holy Spirit when Jesus came in my heart. No wind, no feeling, no extraordinary events, but Joy and the inward knowledge i belong to Jesus now.

For the body of Christ tongues is mainly for the believer as their personal spiritual language.
It is a gift of encouragement and blessing.

It works because ones heart is speaking to the heart of God, and that is a beautiful thing,
though not exceptional. And because it is a gift from the Lord to some of His people, it
is special to them.

So the idea it is a faith position or anything else is a mistake.

But as believers vary from those who have closed hearts but religious fervour, to those who
are all heart with no sense, it is difficult to discern much.

I was in a meeting were the Holy Spirit fell and the noise that rose was like angels calling to
God. These meetings were unusual, and this is partly the point, God moves in extraordinary
ways, as a gift offering to His people. I have only seen this once. So I just walk in thankfulness
and know His ways are something to wonder and praise Him for, Amen.

Speaking in tongues was a gift given, a sign, given (Isaiah 28:11) during the laying of the foundation of the Church (Hebrews 2:4). It was a sign to the Jews (Acts 2:6). Speaking in tongues has served God's purpose, God has given the sign (1Cor 14:21), and God has laid the foundation (Eph 2:20). Speaking in tongues by the Gentiles showed the Jews that God granted even the Gentiles repentance unto life (Acts 11:18). Tongue speakers spoke mysteries (1 Cor 14:2); consequently, the mystery of the gospel has been given (Eph 6:19). Speaking in tongues is the language of angels (1 Cor 13:1), angels minister to humans (Hebrews 1:14). Humans are to understand speaking in tongues in earthly languages (Acts 2:6, 11). Speaking in tongues would be “stilled” (1 Cor 13:8).

The believers in the Bible times who spoke in tongues, they spoke in tongues supernaturally. The believers who supposedly speak in tongues nowadays, they speak gibberish and believe God turns their gibberish into supernatural language, and that is a false doctrine.

The thing with tongues, is a lot of people have been anointed and they speak.
It is a way of sharing your spirit with the Lord.

It is both in scripture and in peoples lives. I am not here to defend imitations
but just testify to people and the Lords blessing of them.
A closed heart denies God can move at His choosing.

God states that He will give the gift of the Holy Spirit to those who ask him:
"If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?" Luke 11:13
So you think you can be saved and not have the HS (eph 1: 13 - 14)

Yeah good luck with that!

Faith. Unbelief will shut the "door".
God never promised everyne would have the gift. So not sure how faith will assure it.. If God has no need of me speaking in a different language. All the faith in the world will not help

Paul is referring to speaking with tongues. He could not have meant languages as he goes on to say he would rather speak five words with his understanding (Words he understood). One that speaks multiple languages certainly understands the languages he is speaking.

1 Cor 14:18-19
"I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:

Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue."
??

If God had me speak in chinese, I would have no comprehension of what I was saying.

Chinese is a language

“Tongues” was the english word for language back when the english bibles were first created.

No really much error. you really need to learn proper exegesis.
It does not matter what you use
Tongues means language. The people on the day of pentecost heard the disciples speak in thier OWN TONGUE (LANGUAGE)

WRONG wrong wrong simply untrue
So God was wrong when he inpsited paul to write that after we hear the word the gospel of our salvation. And after heariing we believe(Faith) We re sealed with the HS? The bible also tells us we are annointed by the spirit? (The holy spirit coming in or being poured on us) The OT example of the priests (we are called priestd) where they were first baptised. Then the sacrifice, then the anointing? Being an example of what God does to his NT priests (US)

Yeah, I think I will go with the word of God ok?

Also many Christian churches do not teach this - so how can it be universal?
The catholic churhc is the largest church in the world. Are they right in everything? Since when does the MANY prove what is the TRUTH?
What evidence can you provide to show the alleged truth
of your supposition?

Jesus declared that true believers would have signs following their belief and conversion.
Acts clearly identifies speaking in tongues with Holy Spirit baptism.
The epistles go on teach disciples to understand the gifts and working of the Holy Spirit individually and in the church: again
many references to the same signs; healing, prophecies, miracles, the POWER of God in a believer's life.
Holy Spirit Baptism. Baptism represents cleansing. When are you going to understand this biblical fact? All gifts of the spirit come because of the HS being poured out into us (anoint) like oil poured out on the OT priests.

And no. Tongues is not the sign which PROVES one is a believer. Paul says the HS gives gifts as he desires. Tongues is but ONE GIFT. NOT EVERYONE will have the gift of tongues

1st you need to learn what baptism is (col 2 will help you, the spiritual circumcision done without hands through the baptism of the spirit)

Then you need to realise does not need everyone speaking in tongues.

If God needs someone to speak in tongues, he will have it happen. If he does not. He wont, I trust god to do what he needs. Why don’t you?
