When a person takes their own life it affects all within the their family, friends, and co-workers causing untold grief and sorrow.
I knew a Christian who committed suicide who was backsildden after living a long period of time in disobedience to God.
This person was once saved, but went back into their previous unsaved lifestyle of sin in the world.
Four suicides come to mind found in the bible.
Saul (1 Sam 31:4-5)
Ahithophel )2 Sam 17:23)
Zimri (1 Kings 16:18)
Judas (Matt 27:5)
My personal opinion is Samson did not commit suicide because he willing gave his life as a sacrifice in destroying the enemies of God's people. Samson knew his actions would mean certain death yet he chose to give his life for a noble cause (if you can call it that).
Their is no record of the four individuals listed above calling out to God in repentance in their final minutes upon this earth. So I must conclude that they died lost (just my opinion).
But what about the Christian friend who backslid and later on committed suicide during his life? Did he make Heaven?
I don't know! I do know that Scripture says, "That whosoever will call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
Did this disobedient believer do so? I hope so! I hope to meet him in glory one day when I leave this earth.
Some things must be committed and left in the hands of God. In the case of a Christian suicide, whether serving God or in rebellion,
I must trust in God's infallible promise: "Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?" (Gen18:25

I am new to this forum and this is my first post.
As tragic as a Christian suicide is (or any suicide is for that matter) I would be extremely embarrassed to meet the Lord unexpectedly or prematurely due to me taking my own life. Scripture clearly states that their are promises for the believer who is an overcomer and rewards to be received at the Bema seat of Christ for Christian service given for the cause of Christ in this life.
It would be regretful to forfeit all that because of suicide. Even though the suicide may make heaven, that individual would have no heavenly treasure to lay at Jesus feet because of suicide. Of coarse this my opinion and I am always open to correction. Blessings!

Hi! I welcome you as well. As to your reply, you may or may not be right, i really dont know. What i do know is that this is tragic to the one that chooses this and certainly.for the ones left behind. It affects us all. I do know that one that takes his own life is not in a normal state of mind. In knowing that there must be a terible anguish to allow one to do this to ones self. It lies beyond my undertanding and only the one going through that suffering may have that answer. Only God knows for certain about things like this because He knows their heart and we cannot.
Well thats my opinion among so many others. Good to have you here and God bless......

I’m curious as to whether this is a modern day affliction. Is the reason it wasn’t mentioned in the Bible because it wasn’t a thing?
I suppose thats a good question. I believe that it is nothing new but certaimly not what it is today. Its getting worse by the day. My opinion for this is because of the way people live their life and how we treat each other. Im not sure but i think this has much to do with it.
Well thats my thought on this. God bless......

Thank you Hungry and Garydavid for your warm welcome. It's always a blessing to meet new family (bros & sisters) in the body.
Yes, I agree that it impossible to know the state of a persons mind when someone takes their own life. Even Christians can become mentally disturbed and experience temporary insanity. No one knows the state of an individual's mind but God. It would seem to me that a person would not be held responsible by God and would die in a saved condition, if originally saved to begin with, yet they committed suicide because of a complete mental breakdown, or suffered a complete mental collapse of their reasoning capabilities.

Of course Jesus was calm, He is God. You cannot compare people with God. And again, you need to be respectful with your wording. People have already been hurt with this topic. Show them respect and apologize to them. Do the right thing!!!!!!!
Jesus is the son of God.
I am not apologizing to people that are dead and chose to take their life cos they are dead and cant hear me.
I did not bring this topic up.

The devil is a liar. If you want to believe a lie, sorry, but the their only comes to steal, kill and destroy. JEsus has come to give life and life more abundantly.

Believe in Jesus and you will live. Dont for one second think by taking your own life thats its Gods will.

Know the truth and the truth will set you free.

There is a difference between laying ones life down for others, as our Lord and saviour Jesus did on the cross, and killing oneself for selfish reasons.

I know several suicides, one was a religious christian man who couldnt face up to the fact he lost his job, made redundant, or couldnt pay the bills. People kill themselves to get insurance money thinking they no good, well my death will pay the bills. He wasnt in his right mind, sure it might pay the bills, but his wife and children lost a husband and father. And he didnt wait on God to turn things around or endure to the end of this jobless season or maybe ask for help, being too prideful. He gassed himself in the car.

Another young man, a cousin of a friend, unbeliever but attending a catholic boys school, strangled himself, his flatmates found him. He suffered depression but didnt tell anyone his pain. He had been listening to rock music that glorified death. Somehow, he thought it was 'cool' to do aomething like that. He was only 25. Again, maybe pride?

Why didnt these people turn to God instead of listening to satan egging them on to end their life, the lie that its so easy..they dont realise when their family sees their dead bodies and they begin to blame themselves.

What about my neighbour, who seeing his mother go to hospital, mistakenily think shes dying so uses that as an excuse to try to kill himself, because he cant handle his mother dying before him. His brother told me this he wasnt in his right mind. So, if hed been sucessful his mother and brother would have had to go to HIS funeral. ? He writes a note saying 'i'll see you in heaven' I go visit him in hospital, hes praying the Lords prayer, but only so he can get out. Ok hes desperate, but never thinks to trust God in all this? Or thank hIm that he's still alive!

I thank everyday Im still alive, cos satan cant kill my soul or make me believe theres anything to be gained by suicide. Ive got breath in my body and I can praise the Lord even when theres storm all around me.
Why because the holy spirit is in me and hes not going to be raised without his temple which is my body.

This is serious youve got to fight whatver lie the devil has told you that youre better off dead. No way. david said with my long life I will show my salvation.

If Job hadnt been patient and waited and had faith but insteead commited suicide when all his family had died and he was covered in boils and everything he had was destroyed, would he have had his conversation with God and declared his redeemer lives? And you know Job could have because he expressed that he might as well be buried and not exist. Well praise the Lord Job perservered and went to God! And God answered him even though he suffered so much..God blessed him and gave him more than he had before!

Amen.

What you went through is sad. I am happy you have the LORD. I know that through many years HE got me and my family through my mom's passing under the same circumstances.

Now for my comment to you about

That is true but You had originally stated suicide was not murder. That is your opinion, which is not based on the word of GOD. The Word of GOD say thou shall not murder. It does not explicitly say that the murdering that we must not do is of another. It only says we are not to murder; take a life. To take a life is a sin. To teach that it is not is a sin.

To pass judgment on the sinner in regards to salvation is not our place either. However it is our responsibility to share what it is that is Sin along with what it means to have salvation in Christ.
I'm as well sorry for your loss through such a tragedy. That is what suicide is. A tragedy. It is our responsibility to give comfort, compassion, and assistance to anyone who has gone through, considering or committed suicide. God's Word does not say anywhere in it that suicide will keep one from heaven. There is only one sin which will do that. Not accepting God's gracious gift of salvation and dying without Christ. That is the only sin that is unforgivable. You can call what I say a sin if you like. God is the only Judge.

I'm thankful you did not succeed in that quest. Praise God He intervened.

" (
'God didn't let me'* ) My dear, without a doubt, something within YOU changed the out come,
circumstances only you know of...but should anyone feel God had a 'presence' in changing something
of this magnitude...be bold in the joy of rejoicing in sharing God's glory and love...for it is of our personal
experiences of God in our lives, that we go forward with a new 'meaning in our lives, to share and
help others in their difficulties in life...does not God define the obligation of His 'messengers'."
'Praise God'

you make no sense. You dont apologize to the dead. Read the replies in this post. Im talking about the ones left behind that are still in pain from loosing someone this way. Thats why you give this topic respect and not talk about this so smugly thinking you have all the answers. Well its your choice. Dont apologize to these people if you wish. Your the one to live with it. God bless brother.

It’s not sinning I’m talking about. It’s the complete feeling of despair that causes the sin. I don’t see how anyone can commit their life, believe He is Lord and has eternal rewards in store for them and still be so upset about their current situation to end it permanently. It just doesn’t compute. It’s not a natural desire for any organism to want to die. You have to reach an ultimate low, and feel like there is no way out. I just don’t see how you can have saving faith and still reach that level of despair. It’s not a quick decision. People who make that choice have thought about it for a long time. Within that time if they haven’t considered what God thinks about it then they really don’t care what God thinks.

Maybe you’ve just never been broken. Thank God you’ve never faced that level of despair. Jeremiah cursed the day he was born. The psalms are full of David’s cries of grief and depression.

Hopefully the OP has received some encouragement from this thread.

Tell others of the hope you have that is in you...people need to hear. People need to know that God is only a prayer away, and He sent Jesus to be our saviour. And He can save us from ourselves as well.

Hes not going to be angry with you, Hes going to forgive you, if you just talk to Him and tell Him whats on your heart. You dont need to suffer in silence.

For those affected by suicides, with loved ones and workmates just as I have been, continue to reach out. Your words may comfort someone. Your prayers may make the difference. Sometimes you got to be firm. I had one girl, she was always talking about being in so despair she was going to kill herself, or thinking of it, and I would say, no way you are not serious. Dont be silly. Banish that thought from your mind. And you know what she knew she was just talking crazy talk. God is there 24/7 if you want someone to talk to.

Whoever said I have all the answers is talking rubbish, God has the answers and its in Jesus. He is our redeemer. Go to Him.

I had a friend that suffered bipolar and her body was never found, she was suspected drowned in the sea. But you know what God had the answer for me because she put her trust in the Lord five days before she passed away. Her sister told me years later. It was not suicide. Some people not in their right mind believe they doing something but it kills them accidently is differnt from somebody who deliberstely kills themselves. GOd knows who are His and he is mighty to save.

I was at this funeral for a suicide and the family of course were rocked but they did not want to discuss it. They put their heads in the sand. The funeral was held in a church but the body was cremated, and the celebrant said if you ever have these dark thoughts TELL SOMEONE. The funeral was packed with all these young people...and many were getting drunk at the wake cos that was the way they dealt with their feelings.

I had a neighbour I found out had tried to comitt suicide, but he of course did not tell me he was thinking of it, if hed been sucessful I would have gone to his funeral instead. The thing is people think about it for many years before they might try and do it, several times. The only thing you can do is say to them, God is here, you can tell Jesus anything. Whatever darkness you are going through, reach to the light.

As for pain of those left behind, you cant comfort them by saying this person is in heaven if youhavent talked to God about it. And you cant say they are in hell even though they may very well be condemned. Anyone affected needs to ask God about the matter, but this is not to say the pain and grief is not real. Anyone losing anyone and seeking answers needs to ask the comforter. And the holy spirit knows.

Made an account out of concern for the topic. SPECIFICALLY the person that posted this thread.

I understand that the internet is VERY impersonal when it comes to deep seated pain and feeling alone in a dark world.

I have been thinking about this since friday and my first thought was have you prayed about it? Any time I've been crushingly low there has also been "some response".

I'll post back again a little bit later a bit more in depth to some of the responses on this thread because it is a rather varied state of mind with varied motivations accompanying it.

I "almost" COMPLETELY understand feeling like you have nobody to turn to and the internet is VERY impersonal in this regard. My advice to you would be to write out some of your feelings on paper and any response that you feel applies to your situation write it out also. Take it away from the computer/phone. Sit in the silence or put on some calming music and open your heart to what the Spirit has to give you in your situation. I say "almost" because I'm not omniscient. I can't know to a tee what it feels like to you personally, just that I've gone through some valleys that have led to depths that I'm not prepared to speak of quite yet.

I would further ask, if you are still checking the thread. What is your motivation? You can be vague and I'm not trying to pry but sheer loneliness? Shame? Feels of unworthiness? Talking yourself through the motivations can open the door in ways you wouldn't expect. Sometimes we need tough love in ways we are in error and other times we need a warm blanket wrapped around us.

WRITE...you'd be surprised how much more therapeutic it can be. These are real people here based off the replies, but much like listening to the radio, it can be impersonal in regards to physicality and sometimes that is where we feel the most lonely.
writing out your thoughts and putting down a scripture on a notecard and setting your mind on it. Putting it near your computer or in your car or in your pocket can be of great help.

I'll post some scriptures in a few hours that have helped me in dark valleys when it feels like no one gets me, no one can hear me, and the Spirit seems to be moving at a glacial pace. In reality this is not the case, but in the "moment" it seems that way. This is a lie.

I also throw in a random idea if you are like me and sometimes spontaneity can force me out of a funk. It's odd, but sometimes going and finding a random church with people you don't know and reaching out for prayer can have unexpected results. You'd be surprised at people's capacity for strangers in need and it can be VERY encouraging. Personally, it comes from a slight embarrassment about needing others and as such may not apply to your situation. Just a thought.
