Father, whatever the season, be it sadness or joy, please keep our eyes on the Lord Jesus.
thank You for the Holy Spirit who comforts us an any affliction.
help us to be patient, knowing we see only in part what You alone see in totality.
thank You for hearts that love you. may Your people offer a sacrifice of praise,
for Jesus' sake, amen.

thanks for that prayer, mom :)

I dont wanna be a downer but having Jesus first in my life I can only turn to my family. About ten years ago one of my best friends was killed in a car accident. I found out Today that his dad, who was also a very good friend, commited suicide at the spot where my friend was killed. I really need all of your prayers as i didnt expect this news to hit me so hard. He was the last person i would have expected to do this. And to answer your questions...No neither of them were Christians. He is survived by his ex wife and his daughter, son in law and his grandson. Yeah I know you dont usually add a son in law as a next of kin but that is the way he would have stated it. A very well respected man in many communities because he gave respect thus earning respect from everyone who met him.
Accept condolences on behalf of all of us Elf. This was a sad post to read.

how does a person remain hopeful without getting his/her mind lost in the clouds?

i'm a pessimist, so being positive about certain things is a challenge.

thoughts?
honey, idk if this will be helpful, but i'm ancient so i tell stories. :p

when i was just a bit older than you, my two closest friends dubbed me the nego-queen.
(literally--they did, and they were perhaps the only ones who could have confronted me about it)

i thought i was a realist lol. but i was just afraid...afraid to hope for the best without
planning for the worst.
so, kudos to you for recognizing this...i sure didn't.

i still have trouble balancing the knowledge 'God works all things for my good'
with 'God won't do everything my way'.
but He has increased my trust in Him and His great love for me.
honestly, i think it all begins and ends right there.

love,
ellie

Some may think this disrespectful to God or even sacrilegious but i have to say this. If i had once ounce of the respect this man had as a non Christian, as i have as a Christian, then i would think i am doing ok. It shows what the character of this man was. Now as a Christian what is my character? How do people see me? If I, as a Christian, do not deserve this much respect then i must truly look inside myself and see where I am wrong. If God is first in my life and I cannot "earn" the respect of others then I must take a deep deep look into my life. Do I respect others? Do I treat others with love? Am I humble before others? If I cannot answer "yes" to all three of those questions then I not only need to kneel before God but become completely prone before Him with my face in the dirt. Love, respect and humility are key to the Christian and to living my life for Jesus. I cannot be or call myself a Christian if even one of those attributes is missing. I pray to God that He make me into the man that He would have me be. I do not want what i want. I want what God wants.

Not to point fingers at any one of you but, shouldnt we all ask this question of ourselves? Yeah i am asking myself these questions right now and Praying God "fixes" me.

Which should lead us to the heart of this question Do we love God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength and do we love our neighbors as ourselves? Do we ever ask God to teach us to love as He loves and to change our hearts to love?

Melita, here is my view on pesivism or that other word i cannot think of lol. I have never viewed the glass as half empty or half full. I have always viewed it as "something to drink". If we ignore the fact that it can still quench our thirst then we will only see "one side of the coin". There are always two sides to a coin, even if both sides are the same. Jesus makes those two sides exactly the same. No matter what side you get with Jesus you always win. As the old saying goes "heads I win, Tails you lose". With Jesus you never lose. Take everything before God and nothing will be left outside of God.

no. i know i don't. :(
i mean, when i look at that perfect law....all of it? all the time?

i am not only not getting that done, i can't.
but it does expose my sin and my need for that:

We are all in the same boat,we are to remain helpless in Him.
That's why we need to abide in because we CAN'T do on our own. Jesus is so clear on this,we are to get that we HELPLESS without Him. And He doesn't EXPECT us to do it on our own. God is so awesome in that. :)

John 15

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. [SUP]2 [/SUP]He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes
[SUP][a][/SUP] so that it will be even more fruitful. [SUP]3 [/SUP]You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. [SUP]4 [/SUP]Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. [SUP]5 [/SUP]“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. [SUP]6 [/SUP]If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. [SUP]7 [/SUP]If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. [SUP]8 [/SUP]This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
[SUP]9 [/SUP]“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. [SUP]10 [/SUP]If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. [SUP]11 [/SUP]I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. [SUP]12 [/SUP]My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. [SUP]13 [/SUP]Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. [SUP]14 [/SUP]You are my friends if you do what I command. [SUP]15 [/SUP]I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. [SUP]16 [/SUP]You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. [SUP]17 [/SUP]This is my command: Love each other.

And not only that He gives the Holy Spirit and the first fruit of the Holy Spirit is LOVE.
:)

It's mind blowing to think that God not only says us BUT then He gives us everything we need to live it out. And then even when we stumble and fall He will pick us and set us back on the path. :)

Could you all do me a huge favor, and please lift me up in prayer... I really am not feeling well... I feel sick to my stomach. My insides are screaming at me... And all I can manage to do is drink ginger ale and eat saltine crackers. Literally that is dinner tonight. I hope this isn't cause of eating ice cream at work (ice cream cake) but if it is... I'm staying far away from any kind of dairy for a long time...

thank you :'(

Yes, we are tempted to ask ourselves these questions. Nevertheless, it is God Himself who binds us to Him and puts the Holy Spirit in us. It is God who works in us to do His pleasure, for His purposes. Because of WHAT JESUS DID we are made holy and are vessels of honor. Not by anything we have done.

The more we keep our eyes on Jesus, the more we are attuned to His Voice, the more we realize how totally dependent we are on His power working in us, the more His works are made manifest in us. It's not of ourselves at all. Rather than trying to be a better person, resting in Jesus and looking unto Him will make us more aware how the Lord is the One doing the work in us. It is Christ crucified and nothing else.

I am praying for you and your friend's family, dear brother Elf.
