Our sermon was supposed to be from Psalm 139, but the man filling in didn't touch it and went to Exodus 2 & 3. It was a bit wishy-washy to me. I'm looking forward to our pastor coming back and really preaching the Word!
I woke up in the night to the smell of creosote in our bathroom. I thought perhaps my husband had been using some chemicals and the smell was left in the bathroom. I went into the living room this morning, and not only could you NOT see the other side of the lake, I could not see our side of the lake, nor the vineyards just below me. The smoke started coming in last night from the south, and now it is just a heavy blanket. It is eerie, just a thick haze with a small red disc in the sky. And car head lights coming at you through the smoke. Oh, and the Air Quality Index was 13/10! With warnings about extreme health hazards for everyone, not just us asthmatics, the elderly and babies!
So the creosote was the smell of burnt wood, probably a lot of pine. I played flute and sang with our worship band. We turned off all the air conditioning and closed the sanctuary and managed to get through the singing. I didn't have a lot of breath support for flute and my mouth was so dry I had to take sips of water during some of the songs. But God was there, and that is the most important thing of all.
So please pray for rain, no lightening in Washington State, BC. and Alberta. There are so many forest fires, and road closures where the fires have jumped the road, making them impassible. And especially for the fire fighters. Several have died in Washington already!
