Interesting subject. Here are a couple of passages that seem to support what you're saying:

I'm not sure what you mean by "Christian nations" though. I think "state churches" are wrong, but a nation can repent and turn to the Lord apart from having one.

Wonderful confirmation! Thank you. I use Nation States interchangeably with Nations because that's how in the modern world we define national governments. And it is the government that must adopt a Christian Constitution in order for the whole people to pledge to that political system and to its laws of social order.

Earlier in history, it was just assumed that a king had alliances with a particular group within the nation to coerce the entire country to observe his philosophy of law. But as nations grew and progressed, it became necessary for larger portions of the populace to support the government in order for it to remain for any length of time.
