Just read the Psalms; talks about raising hands many times.
What is the meaning of it. Are we to raise our hands as a sign to confirm ?

Hand represents will. An oral tradition of literally raising (not waving) hands could indicate that but it is not assigned as a sign. It could bring confusion to the order when gathering together. Some raising, not waving the others wondering if its a law?

God is not served by corrupted human hands.

Psalm 28:2Hear the voice of my supplications, when I cry unto thee, when I lift up my hands toward thy holy oracle.

Is holding out the hands to receive a gift Biblical?
He is the Giver of ALL good gifts, I always receive when I am
prompted by the Spirit to do so, your mileage may vary.
Over and over the natural family is compared with the heavenly/Spiritual one.
To suggest holding out/up hands to the Lord is wrong,is to say,as a child you should never hold out/up your hands to your Father.
This is also how we know it is his will for ALL th be healed.
He is our Father. A good Father.
Only an evil Father will want his child sick.

The original op asked if it was a "practice", a "practice" is something we do to please G-d, we don't "practice" anything in our flesh to make ourselves in better standing with Him. That is the difference between the "outward form of godliness" that Jesus said would mark this end times age and the genuine faith that comes from worshiping and receiving in the Spirit that He requires.
In addition, even if one is doing it as a "practice", we can act ourselves into believing quicker than we can believe ourselves into acting. When we make a move toward Him, He makes a move toward us.

Well it is normal.
With salvation it says with the heart man belives and confession is made unto salvation.
So we see an action, confession, made unto salvation.
When God comes in contact with man there is change, something changes.
The blind man had to go wash.
The rich man had to sell
The 5 foolish had to go buy
The woman with the bleeding had to reach out.
The man with a withered hand had to stretch it foreward.
Sometimes we just have to see God work and smile.
Maybe you look too deeply into what God wants you to just rest and enjoy!
Did you raise your hands anyway to receive? Maybe that person was just wanting to guide you. But kinda doing it in a bossy way it sounds. Still, be open to what God has for you.

Anyway next time just try it. Sometimes my hands just want to reach up to God and they seem to lift up of their own accord.

In school when someone in class wants to answer me, maybe ive asked them a question, I only pick those whove raised their hands. Sure, you can call out if you want and the teacher (me) may hear you, but I will only pick the ones who've raised their hands first!

It does show you are listening to God.

There are many traditions some of God as it is written, others, oral of men.

If a person would hold them up as oral tradition of their sect for self edification as a confirming reasons . The one standing next who is no with familiarity with the meaning could be confused and cause disorder.

1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

I would think a contrite spirit would be a better sign as used as a representation of the unseen glory of God. . Just assembling together as two or three under the authority of his name I would think would be enough of a witness to beleive we are following God. . Edify him who works in us he keeps our hope alive not ones ownself the church the bride. .

When a person starts adding or take away from the approved assembly ceremonies as ceremony laws . The head of man uncovered with, hair of a woman covered as one representative glory.... with breaking of bread ceremony has all but vanished . it would seem to have been Written off as some sort of fashion statement. Replaced with things like falling backward to edify oneself to confirm something?

like the new testament, the old ceremonies laws other that baptism used when a new priest entered the ministry had became substance, the shadow became sight. Indicated by the renting of the veil as the promised glory that follow the work of Christ suffering. The grace of the old tesetemmt bride of Christ entered the true glory the unseen lace of God. . The reformation opened the way for men and woman to cerebrate the ceremonies previous under the old order separated by a high wall

Woman were forbidden from even seeing the ceremonies . The reformation elevated them to their equal status as that of a male. (the wall came down) together. We should remember we are not that in which we will be as mankind called the bride of Christ. Christ our husband

The head unconverted or hair covered ceremony, is used of the representative shadows of glory mixed with the ceremony of drinking the blood of grapes to represent as blood the Holy Spirit and bread to represent the food of his will used together one a representative glory The wedding super upcoming. . the focus on the true shadows to represent the unseen glory can lose their ability to maintain the integrity of the word.

We should be careful when choosing traditions like falling backward slain in the spirt they could confuse the purpose of the cerinimoinal laws as shadows.. a sign for the angels, messengers of the gospel.

Falling back isn't something that is a"practice", if Holy Spirit falls on you, you can and/or will fall back, I have noticed the little ladies tend not to experience this , the big guys do more often.
It isn't a "Practice". His bringing healing and revelation isn't a "Practice" it is the living G-d at work.

Is this a Biblical practice? Why do we do it? What are the origins of it? Within this, I'm also interested in the origins of various other kinds of worship "practices" we do in the church such as clapping of hands, etc.

Thought I'd share a story here, from my childhood. When I was a youngster (about 10 or 11), I was in the kids ministry one Sunday. Me not being the most outspoken or demonstrative person would tend to stand but not move about much or dance during worship as many of the other kids were doing. One day, I was pulled out of church and disciplined and threatened for my perceived "lack of reverence" for God. It took me many years before I felt comfortable even raising hands to God in church again, as this incident affected me deeply.
You were abused by a power tripper, like all us of. Try to forget that abuse and set yourself free now today and start raising your hands and dancing to the Lord if you love to worship the Lord a lot.
Or just stand there like a tree, and tell me which way makes you feel better
