That is a clear summary. Do you have any thoughts on the more difficult application to todays church - other than the obvious claim to a love of money by many prophetic ministries?
Ohhhh I see now. No, it's not the love of money I was drawing analogy to. For the mdoern day and the future, well have these generations of shame fulfilled the prophesy against them in this thing; they encourage, condone, make excuses for, and even commit much whoredom. They take it very lightly, and they defend the whores, they are no better than Zimri the son of Salu and Cozbi. How they will defend the whores from Phinehas. Generations that say they believe in the Bible, but yet they do like unto the villains and not like unto the heroes of the Bible. Therefore the Lord Jesus Christ will fight them himself by the Sword of his mouth.

Revelation 2:14-16

14 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.

15 So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate.

16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

Prophetically that's very astute because it shifts the character of the judgement of todays whores who have made money an idol and driven harm into the flocks - many of whom have gone willingly along with the falsehood - to the more zealous of that number who despite the judgement of God in the time of Moses who commanded the Elders of Israel to "Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baalpeor." yet have continued to sin in the sight of Moses and Israel [the churches].

The character of that effect today is Jezebelic because it is not now simply the whoring of men and the love of money that offends but the whoring of women who are taking the place of Salu - so that a Cozbi now leads the man into the tent.

In that meaning a Phinehas is a righteous pastor and a Balaam is a righteous prophet who lays a snare.

I have been reading your manner of writing for a few months. This last post takes on some of that character - and again your concluding sentence is also an abiding character of your prophetic sense of judgement on todays church. I have variously asked myself how you are able to make that latter stark meaning so visible and yet its outworking be hidden from you.

Ah the Jezebel spirit is the next portion of that same chapter, but yes indeed you notice the same pattern here; they teach toleration of the idols and they teach whoredom.

Balaam is not righteous however, he is evil because he taught this thing. Phinehas is righteous he stood up and put away the evil because he had actual zeal and belief in God.

Yet in this day look at all the whoredom they commit. It is also notable prophetically they will adhere to Nicolas Doctrines, which is divorce and remarriage. The sexual sins are particularly evil, yet the churches today defend them and commit them in their midst without any regard for the Lord my God. Who do they resemble more; Phinehas with his spear, or Zimri justifying their wicked whoredom against the very face of Moses even as the Sore Judgements of God are breaking out upon them? It will not be hidden from them, but even has been foretold to them thousands of years in advance that Jesus himself will fight them with the Sword.

Indeed Balaam is evil - yet it was an evil that was overtaken by his love of money. The evil itself is indicative of many types of determined men and women and yet to qualify these same men and women would also have to lay claim to prophecy and in some very real sense be proven in it. That is the gift of prophecy - yet that gift has given rise to claims to the prophetic office - both men and women. So the lesser meaning to Balaam would be the reality of speaking for God in a gift of the Holy Spirit for the one who is born again - yet resulting in a speaking to the entire church in an effect of turning the church into a whore house. It is one thing to turn one man or woman into a whore by misleading them - it is another to lay waste to entire churches. In that sense the Nicolatian sin is visible in your meaning.

So in saying that Balaam was indeed evil - and saying that his evil was overtaken by his personal sin [to use your term] I am not trying to diminish Balaam's evil actions. I am simply saying that Micaiah [who was alone] spoke for God to snare a King Ahab. And yet he was not possessed of a lying spirit as were the 400 prophets - when they prophesied his victory - yet Micaiah was rebuked by Ahab when he first spoke that which agreed with the 400 prophets. Balaam was not possessed so his evil was his own choosing - as disguising himself in battle was the choice of Ahab. It was Elijah who laid these false prophets down including the prophets of Jezebel. My wonder is that we see the sword of the Lord - but not the means of welding it.

If you're wondering who wields the Sword, it is no secret, he is even the Lord God.

Apart from the biblical record, very little is known of Balaam. This guy has always been an enigma to me. He shows up in scripture as something of an anomaly whose origin and ancestry are very uncertain. The text says he was from Pethor, which was a city in Mesopotamia on the Euphrates River some 400 miles north of Moab (About a 20-day journey at 25 miles per day). He may not have been a Moabite, but if he is from Pethor, then he may have shared a common ancestry with the Moabites through Lot who came from Mesopotamia to the land of Moab. Apparently, Balaam had a reputation that preceded him even as far away as Moab. Balak had known either by personal encounter or by reputation concerning Balaam that “whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed.” If Balaam was indeed a prophet of God, then this would have certainly been true.

Like Melchizedek, Balaam comes on the scene out of nowhere as a worshiper of God with no seeming connection to Abraham. If this Balaam was indeed a prophet of God, then he appears to have had more in common with such men as Gehazi or the unnamed old prophet of Bethel in 1 Kings 13:24 who deceived the prophet of Judah to his death than he does with Melchizedek.

Balaam seems to have mixed the worship of the one true God with the art of divination. This is something we do not see in any other prophet of Jehovah. Balaam uses the name ‘Jehovah’ repeatedly, and in verse 18 he refers to Jehovah as “The Lord My God.” which indicates, at the very least, some measure of familiarity with the one true God, but in Joshua 13:22, he is regarded as a diviner or soothsayer, “The sons of Israel also killed Balaam the son of Beor, the diviner….”

Divining is a craft of the idolater, and one forbidden by Jehovah. In fact, God had forbidden Israel to have anything to do with such evil practices or to even tolerate the presence of those among them who did.

Despite this however, there seems to have been some relationship between Balaam and the Lord. In fact, his initial discourse with the Lord in chapter 22, which the Lord himself initiated, seems to have been no different than that of any other prophet. It also seems to have been an experience with which Balaam was familiar. He obviously expected to receive a response from the Lord and was not surprised when he received it.

Balaam is called a prophet in 2 Peter 2:16 as well as in Numbers 22:7. The question then is this, was Balaam a false prophet from the beginning or, was he a genuine prophet of God who went bad. Scripture never seems to have anything good to say about this man, but it would seem he falls within the category of the latter.

reading about Balaam, I saw something I did not see before and I would like to ask you all about

Numbers 22:1-11 KJV/NIV say the samething

22 And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in the plains of Moab on this side Jordan by Jericho. 2 And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites. 3 And Moab was sore afraid of the people, because they were many: and Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel. 4 And Moab said unto the elders of Midian, Now shall this company lick up all that are round about us, as the ox licketh up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time. 5 He sent messengers therefore unto Balaam the son of Beor to Pethor, which is by the river of the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt: behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they abide over against me: 6 Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, that we may smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land: for I wot that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed. 7 And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came unto Balaam, and spake unto him the words of Balak. 8 And he said unto them, Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as the Lord shall speak unto me: and the princes of Moab abode with Balaam. 9 And God came unto Balaam, and said, What men are these with thee? 10 And Balaam said unto God, Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, hath sent unto me, saying, 11 Behold, there is a people come out of Egypt, which covereth the face of the earth: come now, curse me them; peradventure I shall be able to overcome them, and drive them out.

God told Balaam not to put a curse on the people they were blessed and do not go out with Balak.

Here is my questions:

  1. how did Balaam have the ability to curse people?
  2. Divination God hates
  3. God came and told Balaam not to curse His people
  4. God spoke to a man who did divination yet Balaam called and knew the Lord God
God outside is Balaam to looking outside yourself for proof so any religion is built by what you see is children's is great at first but was only followed by darkness of spirit.
Nothing impossible after you find it in you.

God spoke to a man who did divination yet Balaam called and knew the Lord God
Balaam was a good example of one who had one foot in the world and one foot in the service of God. But God used Balaam ( a hireling prophet). The story of Balaam is quite amazing,

did Balaam 'use his grace for licentiousness' ?
God is certainly gracious to him
Jesus said this:
'But I have a few things against you, because you have some there holding the teaching of Balaam, who would teach Balak to cast a snare before the sons of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality.'

“Woe to them! They have taken the way of Cain; they have rushed for profit into Balaam’s error; they have been destroyed in Korah’s rebellion.”

“And Moses said unto Korah, Hear, I pray you, ye sons of Levi: seemeth it but a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the LORD, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them?

And he hath brought thee near to him, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee: and seek ye the priesthood also? For which cause both thou and all thy company are gathered together against the LORD: and what is Aaron, that ye murmur against him?”
‭‭Numbers‬ ‭16:8-11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Speak unto the congregation, saying, Get you up from about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. And Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him.

And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of their's, lest ye be consumed in all their sins.

So they gat up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children. And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that the LORD hath sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of mine own mind. If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the LORD hath not sent me. But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD.

And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them: and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.”
‭‭Numbers‬ ‭16:24-32‬ ‭KJV‬‬
